Slide a section of road bike inner tube around that handle for a better more secure grip. Also you can drizzle a small amount of plumbing silicone into the handle to seal it water tight at the blade end.
@BushCampingTools6 жыл бұрын
Hi, you know I screwed up with that one, the handle had already been waterproofed by them. I should have said that. But your hack re the inner tube is a good one for sure. I also used a inner tube on my FKMD Combat knife too and it made all the difference. Thanks for watching and commenting. I had this knife out at the beginning of the year on the coast and in the bush, still going strong.

This seems to be a good hollow handle knife. Strong enough. The hollow handle knives are a bit of a novelty factor, but I suppose you can keep some decent survival gear of your own inside it. Probably better than what it comes with. Good review, thanks! 🇬🇧
@BushCampingTools4 жыл бұрын
Hi there and thanks for watching and commenting! Yes I guess there is a market out there for them, Personally, I chuck everything inside them and put my own stuff just like I do with these "survival kits" it's just the ox for me LOL and I use other waterproof and crush proof boxes for serious outings/expeditions, eg small pelicases or the likes of nanuk cases, just as good as pelicases IMHO and experience. The tang of ths gors further into the handle than the Jungle King 1 but the JK1's handle is made from investment cast stainless steel and the process is the same for investment cast climbing nuts, very strong. I don't own one but if I had ot own another hollow handle knife, that would be it. Not the other JK models as their handles are all Aluminium. I'm sure they are very strong but I've seen a big guy insert a JK1 into a slot and put his whole body weight upon the handle, no problems.

D2 tool steel. Tempting.. Nice to see an actual functional rambo style knife. 2 things though, they should have included is the pommel compass and they really should have done a back saw.
@BushCampingTools8 жыл бұрын
Hi yeah to be honest i couldn't fault it. I think the pommel compass actually might have cheapened the thing. It certainly held an edge against very very hard eucalyptus wood. They have a good heat treatment regime for their steels of choice. Thanks for watching!

Great review mate. I'd like to see that blade as a full tang version with the g10 scales. I have one of the old Buckmaster knives I got when I was a teenager after seeing Rambo. I'm hoping to sell it and put the money towards a ER or the Fox trapper.
@BushCampingTools9 жыл бұрын
Patrick Anderson Hi there, yeah that's a good idea re selling the Buckmaster as there are plenty of collectors out there you should get a good price if it's still in good condition and you have the sheath etc.Kizlyar Supreme (and me) have been talking about that very thing, doing a Survivalist with a full tang ( I think the blade design is pretty good actually) and give it G10 scales or solid say Jacaranda wood scales, stainless tube rivets ( no nonsense). Despite the FOX Trapper's handle not being as comfortable as my ER knives, I still like it. It too could be improved in design. I'd like to review the infamous FULCRUM too, let's wait and see. I do like the fact you can bash away at things with the back of the Survivalist spine and save a bit on the edge. I think the FOX Trapper is good but if I was going to be doing a lot of fishing too on say a hunting trip I'd also take another knife as i'd be looking for a better pointed tip but abuse it can take. The TAKKER and can take more abuse but is less practical for civilian usage and even I'd say not that practical ( owners have told me) for military usage.
@BushCampingTools9 жыл бұрын
Patrick Anderson Hey Patrick stay tuned regarding a similar blade style and G10 handle!

The hollow handle knife should be viewed precisely as British SAS viewed the original small tin kit that ultimately “evolved” into the ubiquitous Altoids kit. As a backup to a backup. One must ask oneself “in what set of circumstances would I find myself in the bush with this tool?” In WW2 many of the 82nd and particularly 101st Airborne jumping over Normandy lost everything in prop wash/ wind shear but their knives. Their rifles, packs and in rarer cases even web gear flew off over cow pastures alight by German MG42 tracers. In such an unenviable situation having a working button compass encased in an aluminum pommel, a needle and thread with a few uniform buttons, perhaps an extra boot lace and/or morphine syrette, maybe some tweezers or a few proper strike anywhere matches (before methamphetamine mania made red phosphorus impossible to get cheaply). Or maybe a piece of surgical tubing long enough and strong enough to fashion a field tourniquet; these could offer tremendous benefit, albeit temporarily, in very specific circumstances. Comparing these suggestions to the later developed USAF parachute survival kit one understands how tremendously game changing some of the aforementioned tiny tools can be in austere environments or unplanned wilderness bivouacs. Conversely why would anyone take a zero tang belt knife on a family camping trip and then attempt to use it as a hatchet? The hollow handle survival knife, pre-“First Blood” was a derivative of the Air Force survival knife. The rat tail tang of the former was sacrificed for a handle cavity in the latter. The original USAF knife was designed as an air crash egress tool as much as it was built to be a camp knife. Lastly there are journal entries from the American Civil War wherein soldiers wrote home specifically asking for needles, thread and basic hand stitching notions. That’s how important the ever humble needle was to maintaining battle ready kit. The other typical hollow handle survival tools are fairly self evident. If anyone read this, thank you and happy hunting.

Thanks for sharing, I guess there is a big difference in price between this knife and the Extrema ratio ones you reviewed in your previous video. If you had to pick one knife for a survival type knife what would you pick? Please keep the videos coming great stuff.
@BushCampingTools9 жыл бұрын
Alwyn Roberts Hi thanks for watching! In answer to your question, yes there is a large difference in price. I think when a manufacturer labels a product as "Survival knife" then regardless of what type of environment it is good for, then it should satisfy these (but not limited to) qualities: The blade should be tough (metallurgically speaking) ; easily sharpened in the field; be able to penetrate an object easily; XLNT at cutting (believe it or not, not all knives are!); easily maintained with little effort and have a good safe durable carry system. As one would/should only be using their precious "survival" knife to make other tools mostly and not strapping it to branches making ridiculous spears defending against wild animals etc (I've written how this is a complete myth), then both of these knives should do the trick........IF one keeps their head on their shoulders during the situation. BTW more videos to follow showing what a realistic survival shelter might look like.

+Art-E-Mouse I don't have the knife in front of me as I'm travelling right now but from memory it's about 2-3cm? It is very strongly attached, with all the sideway's bashing i did with it it never even exhibited the slightest lateral movement. Not sure JB weld would add anything.

Oh sorry, ok see the follow up video of the handle contents and u will get some sort of idea. Like many of these types of knives the handle volume is not very large. Too right. To be honest I really thought bashing away at this hard eucalyptus would loosen the blade, even a little bit but no chance LOL. It's a damn tough knife and just at the beginning of this year I took it again into the "jungle' and gave it the works on some bamboo that was as dirty as hell, I'd chopped about two years ago and had just left it in a pile covered in dust and dirt and, did that dull the D2 edge, no siree LOL! After work it had a quick wipe and back into the scabbard. I don't know about other hollow handled knives and I'm sure there are other good ones out there but this one rocks.

Wouldn't a baton test be more adequate in testing the strength of the handle ?
@BushCampingTools8 жыл бұрын
+Ciel Vert I personally don't believe so. Sure it would put vibration into the handle but I figured after bashing ( viewers saw only a fraction of the footage) away at seasoned eucalyptus, I would have expected something to give at this point, ie loose screws or wobbly handle and I didn't. There is of course no reason if the holes to handle line up exactly ( as they did) with the holes in the tang, plus the stainless bolts have sufficient resistance to shear loads, to not produce any wobble etc. Some Russian guys beat the living daylights out of this knife into a car bonnet ( it was crazy) I must find the link and post it. The handle remained intact. Total abuse.

Say Heah M8, If it's a very small area in the hollow handle what's the point. Hollow handles are not my Fav's, too round for one, but I do have a few. Infact I'm entertaining getting a Tom Brown Tracker Blade mounted on a hollow handle..This guy I know, puts teeth on the blade then screws the blade into the handle that's treaded, then the marriage is solidified with a strong hard resin, so the blade would never loosen up or unscrew. Also that resin helps the strength and becomes extra strong. Infact that's excactly how my Bokor Plus Aparro and some variations of this method of. on nearing the blades to the handle. Except ofcource my U.S. made Tomahawk Brand Survival Knife, it's more Ike the Aitor method. Cheers M8, and a Happy Easter.

czechmate9591 I said in the video there appeared to be a steel insert but Kizlyar Supreme said there wasn't just a milled out handle. It looked pretty secure to me and the tang, whilst I didn't exactly measure it, appeared to go about 4 to 5 cm into the handle. BTW I was around your way not so long ago but only for a day otherwise I would have let you know.

+paulie 4x Hi yeah, I've never tried the Aitor's but they appear just too big and only a very small split pin is holding the handle on, although the handle is supposedly investment cast stainless steel, so should be super strong, as similar processes are used to make climbing gear.
@paulie4x19 жыл бұрын
I think that's what my Tomahawk Brand Survival Knife is made out of, It's still holding up great, although I don't hunt hog anymore, but it was or moist be one of the longest survival knives made, I think the blade is about 9"-9 1/2 blade and made in 440c. They also made it in China towards the end, but mine was made in the U.S.A. I still have it. But if you have a chance check out the Bokor Aparro it look's like the blade and the handle are held together similar to my Buck Buckmaster #184 which is a super tough hollow handle knife it's discontinued, but the Aparro is still made I think, But you can baton with that baby. It's also a 440c. but a thicker blade than my Tomahawk Brand, and if you can check out that Russian NV1-01 the B are V sounds in Russian so it might be NB1-01 it's Russian so it's not as refined as we westerners make our jnives, But it's a solidly made knife made at the Izshmas Plant where they make the AK's and the truck steel may not be as good as our 5160 but again it's not too bad. Everytime I check up on them tgeir sold out, But I bet if you ordered one it wouldn't take tgat ling, just make sure tgey include a compass it fit's on the sgeath, some think it's for water purification it's not it's for a compass, I know mine came with a compass, the steel is supposed to be truck spring steel, I think it's something like G7 not sure now, Take care my friend and keep up the great work.,, ,, ,,

WoW they are extensive. It does look a bit like my Tomahawk Brand Survival Knife which I used hog hunting, I still have it, but I don't hunt anymore, At the time it's was the longest blade survival knife, Mine was also made in the U.S.A. in 440c The saw back on mine is different, The teeth are very thin and very sharp not to saw wood but to cut through the hyde..The sheath is plain but it worked all these years. Yeah, another hollow handle on my Wish List.

Yes, that is true and because of that it makes it more versatile. I know sometimes in the tropics it can be handy to cut down fruit from out of the way places and or fruit where there may be a big ants nest or wasps living, so if u climbed the tree you would definitely be stung. Certainly the handle is secured very well and I think even though the Aitor Jungle King is like the iconic knife when it comes to hollow handle knives, just having a split pin holding everything together is my worry (but I'm sure it is strong enough) however, with this Kizlyar Supreme model having 2 small bolts is better i believe.

Say Heah M8, I got lucky again, I bought a nice Bianchi Hollow Handle Survival Knife. On mine it must be the Nighthawk 1 before the put the Nighthawk name under the Bianchi, all that's on mine is it has the etched Star Logo and the name Bianchi, on the ricaso it has the serial number on the other side it has made in Solingen, Germany and Stainless, it's 440c. Mine is also a mirror Polish finish, The knife is very solid and made out of Brass, But the handle is covered with a Black Plastic that they make Synthetic Rifles Stocks out of. Yeah, I'm looking at the D2 Kislyar Hollow Handle, All of a sudden I managed to put together a nice stable of Hollow Handle Knives. Also the Bianchi were used by Fighter Pilots, the unique saw on top of the Sledge will cut Plexiglas, and Belts to help the Pilot get out of the Plane. Yeah, a rare find, I think mine was made before 1970. Laterz.

Say Heah M8, I just had to share this with you. Infact I have a Russian professional Survival Knife. Made at the Izchmas Plant were they make the AK's, it's made in their version of truck leaf springs 65G. It's NB1-01 but in Russian the "B" is a "V" then I have a Randall Made Model #18 in the Attack. I also have a knife that goes back to the hog hunting days, Infact at the time it was one of the longer blades made, It's a Hollow hand and the spine has very fine thin teeth to cut through the Hyde like butter, Mine was also made in the U. S. A. they have been discontinued for a while now even the Chinese made ones too. I really like my Martin copy Aparro which is made in the 440c instead of the CM 154 and mass produced by Bokor. I also have a Buckmaster #184, I had it a while. But I got lucky, I bought a Handmade Bianchi made in Solingen, Germany out of 440c and the rest is Brass, Talking about a solid knife This one is a Prize. I just had to share this and to say Heah. It's always nice.

Say Heah M8, Yeah a nice Parang type with a little Martindale Flare. Nice, A while ago, sometime last fall or so I got a pair of Knives to get ready for the up-coming Summer Season in the bush and all it can through at me in my State. Alot of Brambles, pretty thick sometimes. A Long Knife is defenetly needed. One of my all time Fav is my Swamp Rat Rodent Rucki, about a 15 1/2"blade and 3/16th" thick. I always liked Choils regardless of blade length but especially on a large blade. For me a choil is like having two knife sizes in one and I never ran out of blade length because of a choil. Those two are my Ka-Bar Johnson Adventure Potbelly and my Parangatang, which reminds me of your Kislyar Supreme Bush Mate Machete but it might be a bit more slender which actually allows me to have a lively blade in my hand when clearing a camp area put, But I can also chop, and even baton it and finish the job if a knife is necessary at the moment. That's why my Rucki shines. My Parangatang gives it a rest sometimes. I luv that Rucki. But yeah, For a wet area like making a duck blind that Supreme Bush Mate will work great, I can see that in it. Right now I couldn't find alot of info on it. But, yeah, my Parangatang is similar and it's made of 1095 CroVan which I can get it scary sharp. The Potbelly and the Parangatang make a very nice match. Infact I was using the Potbelly as a One Tool Option and that allowed me to graduate to my presently used Ratweiler, even though I teamed it with my Rodent Solution, I still try using the Ratweiler for almost everything, It's a well balanced knife for such a large knife. But the last few days where perfect for a Afternoon Delight, my hot cup of coffee on the open fire and a baked potato. So I was using my Lite Trio, My Mora 2000, my Mora Hatchet and the Baccho Laplander, all match in color although you can still get a combo kit price if you get them in the orange, and the Laplander comes in orange also. But a week ago I got a few very nice folders at the Pawn Shop in near mint condition with box and paper work I got a beautiful Diefenthal 409 Lockback with stag handle, Looks almost as good as the Pumas. But with the folders I got a Case Pawnee Fix Blade in near new condition. Infact today I found a sheath for it in excellent condition from a friend that males some awesome sheath's by the name of Rick Kerr, I mean this guy is great and very reasonable prices. So now I just made another lite carry, I has a Case Jungle Machete Knife, It's a 10" blade, so all I did is add my Wood Handle Fiske Folding Saw and Blip, Blap, Blam I didn't have to change anything to continue my Afternoon Delight's. If worst came to worst I can add my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet or my 2Hawks Warbeast Tomahawk which has three sharp edges. But yeah, I always wanted a Martindale Machete, But I like the fact the Kislyar is a Stainless Steel, that's great. Lemme know when you will be selling it in the U. S. Will ya ?

Say Heah, Yeah, I don't love them (Hollow Handle), But I do have a couple of them that Yeah, I can trust. I prolly could trust my Randall #18 Atrack, with the brass hilt and cap pommel because of the compass it's also knurled and a saw back in Stainless Steel. I also can trust my Buckmaster #184, and also my Bokor Aparro, I also have the Russian made NV1-01 it's confusing because the "B" is a "V" in Russian, they use the Cyrillic Alphabet, but the knife is made at the it Izshmas Plant where the AK's are made at, it's a recurve 6" blade made out of tgeir truck spring steel it's like the G ? But I also have a Tomahawk Brand Survival Knife, I was the last to trust it as a working knife. But mine was made in the U.S.A. yes it's a vintage because even the Chinese made are discontinued, it use to be the XL1161 one of the longest survival knife blafes, It turned out to be a great hog hunting knife, it's also made out of the 440c stainless and the saw back is a very thin but very sharp teeth, similar to a comb teeth rather than for wood, but extremely dharp, and long enough to reach the heart on the hog, I still have mine and it's extremely sgarp and in great condition, no blade wiggle after all these years, Yeah, your right, the storage isn't all that big, and for me it's more practical to carry a Pouch on my survival belt, ,,, ,,,

Hi thanks for watching. A note about what we are seeing here: These trees are on our own private property and the tree species is called a camphor laurel. They are a long term invasive species originating from China, of which probably seeds from nursery and or landscaping trees made it into the wilds of Australian bush a great many years ago and are basically "naturalised" . Whilst they are an invasive species, I am careful not to cut down every one but to keep the forrest with many larger ones which serve to feed native bird species and provide homes for many creatures. However, their leaves which contain many volatile oils which can act as a natural herbicide for the germination of other native species can be sometimes problematic and or just large trees will effectively block out light for where there should be native species growing. They can never be eradicated due to the sheer number of them and i certainly do not advocate, (as many do in the country) to attempt to eradicate them for the positive reasons i stated above. In fact in this region there are groups to who I'm opposed to for chopping of the very large trees of this species, claiming they have no beneficial value to Australia native animals, which is simply not scientifically correct. So on this properly we keep the very biggest of these trees, which BTW can grow to enormous size and live for many many years and we cut down smaller ones so they do not dominate the "real native bush". Many thanks for your comments as they are indeed valid to be expressed because far too many people are unjustly cutting down stuff just to make a video review.

@@BushCampingTools спасибо за объяснение... я понял вашу позицию. Такое случается когда человек начинает считать себя "очень умным" и перевозит растения или животных на другие континенты, где они начинают угнетать и уничтожать местную флору и фауну...

yes, you are exactly correct here and in Australia we have so many foreign plants and animals which have taken hold and are now basically part of the natural environment. Hence we have very strict controls on what gets imported these days however, as we say in English and I'm certain there is a similar saying in Russian language, "Too late to close the gate, The horse has already bolted"! @@ЭльТау23

rickyboyz100 Hi, ok I try to put some survival/campcraft/bushcraft whatever one wants to call it in all of my longer videos. But soon I'll post some stuff on building a shelter in the tropics no nonsense, minimalist effort (what you need in a true survival situation.

Excellent, Can't wait! Too many preppers and survival channels show unrealistic methods

rickyboyz100 That's exactly right by people who are dare I say it are "arm chair" survivalists and may not have ever even been camping other than in a vehicle. The thing is showing someone build a "log cabin" looks pretty cool but no one in their right mind is going to expend all of that energy doing that if you are truly in a survival situation, ie low on food or food just scarce, (no camera crew, or production team present either LOL) far from water so water supplies limited. I don't care how good someone says they are with an axe let me see them build a log cabin with no cuts in the video and still be standing and not consuming large quantities of food too........in any weather. As i said however, it makes for good viewing but can be far from reality.

I like the ones I have, that Russian made NV1-01 has a very unique sgeath also, I have a spear, a saw, and almost a complete survival kit, the total package is a little heavy, but reasonable that no worries on carrying it, it's a 6" recurve and the steel is I think a G 7 it's used on Russian Truck Springs similar to the 5160 ?, ,,, ,,, ,,,
