This split up would have been really short. So it's a kind of long one but a lot of good stuff. Thank you everyone for tuning in, this is really fun building from paper plans on a proven chassis. Next video the VF-1 should be rolling!

All terrain baja crawler :) Where I live is unique in that you can travel multiple states without ever touching asphalt, or at least minimally. The options are pretty wide; from mountain fire trail riding(what I consider crawling), desert.. LOTS of desert. dunes and some awesome scenic asphalt canyons that you just want to ride in forever(joy or fast). There are other more challenging trails/obstacles as well, but those categories I listed are what I will definitely be using this for, all the while camping along the way, of course ;) One challenge in particular begins at the southern end of my state and takes trails all the way to the northern tip. That would be intense!

@@KJRaycing That's awesome, I didn't realize there was a name for that style of camping. I looked up camping utv and found "overland" all over! I seen a wicked trailer setup, I think might be close to what you had mentioned a little while back. Those look ideal! I will without a doubt keep you posted on my build. I do expect it to take along time, but I'm totally okay with that. You're the best, man!

If you are a lazy person like me you can get lasercut tabs really cheap online. I found an online shop that sells these tabs for 1,50€ -2,00€ each. Propably you can get them even cheaper in the US. I just wanted to mention it, because it will safe some time when i start my own project. Thank you for your great effort, its such a help that you share your hard work with us. Now I have hope that i can build my own crosscart without having to change everything over and over again until it kind of works xD

I’ve found tabs for $2-3 each. I can get 20 tabs out of a long section of flat bar for $11, saving almost 50 bucks in the long run. And i dont have to wait for them to be shipped. There are lots of tabs that go on these, so i wanted to learn how to make my own anyway. Thank you for the comment.

Could you make the top arm mounts wider and then you could shim more or less caster into the front suspension ??
@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 3 жыл бұрын
The tabs are how you shim for camber. The relative position of the upper a arms forward or back to the lower a arms adjusts your caster, but you need to maintain clearance for the shock. Since they are from an atv, the geometry is only set once.

The ackerman is not going to be correct on that, using the rear-steer knuckles for front-steer. In fact, it's going to be very incorrect.
@KJRaycing
@KJRaycing 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t mislead anyone about that. It’s a small sacrifice for an inexpensive front end. Check out the next video, then check out the videos of them driving and see that it may be “incorrect”, but works incredibly well.

My plans were not designed to be a jumping off point, you are going to struggle if you try and modify them outside of stretching as an option in the plans. It is designed to FIA specifications and will pass tech inspection if you build it correctly.

Question? the distance between the upper and lower frame where the arm mount are not the same as the ball joints distance. is this by design or an unavoidable circumstance of the frame geometry?

Both. There is 20” or more of room for different a arms and different wheel bases. The top mount is shorter to triangulate the front end for strength.
