Wow amazing, that looks like a blast. You are 100% correct - going from dirt to asphalt is a different game of tolerances. Great work!!

Apology accepted lol 😂A liter bike motor, some slightly longer gearing, and a fine tuned suspension setup would dominate on a track like this one. Also I noticed you really heaving the wheel into some of those corners, this might be something to consider for you. I've been wanting to save this idea for my own build but, whatever, sharing's caring and all that. Years and years ago my dad, brother, and I built a go-kart kinda similar in design to this one, it was designed to look like the cockpit of a RAH-66 Comanche. Anyway, we used a 3:1 frozen yogurt machine gearbox as a kind of static "power steering". I've never seen anyone else do this on karts like this, but it was a massive difference in overall stability and confidence when driving the thing and more importantly, it wasn't exhausting to drive for extended periods of time. No plumbing either, it's just a mechanical gear reduction inherently designed to suffer millions of rotations and at least back then, they were cheap and readily available. Really enjoy seeing your vids man, keep it up!

Nice man, 1 thing I can say, when money permits, race day in the trailer needs to have a generator and a small 110v welder, unless your gonna drop serious coin on a 3 phase genny. A nice jack, 4 stands, and a small kit of sockets, wrenches. Extra tires rims lugs and lug studs. Sounds like a lot but it should be enough to fix almost anything.

Sam B and I were talking about this video earlier today. I told him I had not seen it yet since I just got in from work. I turned the lights off and cranked up the speakers. WOOOOOHOOOO! This is awesome! I will try and see if there is a track down in ATL that I can take mine too once its done. I did go with a larger wheel set 14" since I thought I wanted to take it to asphalt some point in the future.

been loving the videos! If this gets popular enough I would love to see a racing class with this chassis. Could set up below 1000cc classes and below 600cc classes. Set up rules and regulations. That would be really cool. Have a great day!

While you can put down more power on asphalt, it becomes far more dangerous at those higher speeds. Lower, stiffer suspension, tuned engine, and see what kind of additions might be good regarding safety in the event of a crash. Thanks for sharing. 🍻

I wonder if you could build an unsprung downforce front end? Just mount wings ONTO the upper arms, not the frame. Rear would use rods attached to the rear arms. The rod goes up to the wing, and the wing is mounted to the upper frame on a high offset Heim hinge. Simplifies suspension due to not having to counteract the ride height compression. Also, I forget if you had antiroll bars on this one, but you're going to need them for body roll in high G force turns now as speeds go way up. Doubling speed quadruples G forces. Aerodynamics are probably going to give significant gains due to the unavoidable high drag inherent in this style build. Anything you do with it will still be a blast. Can't wait to see your higher displacement build jump off the drawing board...

after watching this video it really gets you wondering how far your basic chassis design could be taken. Maybe a budget formula car, or a entry-level fully independent suspension oval dirt racer sprint car. The offroad rally course is a lot of fun but not everyone has a place to run those.

So this idea was the whole premise of the VF (variable frame) kart! I want to have one machine that can do anything through conversion, it is working out pretty great so far and it’s just going to get better as we find different setups! The creative minds of all the builders out there are really making this idea fly 👍. I can’t wait to see yours and how you do it.

Great video and nice kart. At around 9:50 you talk about the failure of the clutch cable. Are you running a quick shift and auto blip on that R6 setup. May be something to think about. basically eliminates the need for a clutch pedal other than for starting and stopping.

Have you ever thought about using a shaft drive bike engine?? Like a VMAX? I’ve had a 1200 Vmax for ten years now and cannot top it out without death wobbles 145 mph in fourth? I’m seriously considering building a cart with it and a FL350 Honda Odyssey I acquired cheap. Would love your opinion on the shaft drive part Thnx love your work
@timothywilliams2021
@timothywilliams2021 Жыл бұрын
If you use a shaft drive it would eliminate the need for building the chain drive. I'd use a small automotive rear diff. I'd look for one with a variety of aftermarket parts and gear ratios available.
@matthewmoilanen787
@matthewmoilanen787 Жыл бұрын
Shaft drives work great but the only downside is changing gearing. Gear would have to be made by a competent machinist with hyphoid gear cutting capability. As I worked for a manufacturer that did that I don't know of anyone who does it for individual customers? Good luck with your idea!
@timothywilliams2021
@timothywilliams2021 Жыл бұрын
@@matthewmoilanen787 That's exactly why I suggested using an automotive diff. I'd look for an independent rear diff from a fairly popular car. Something with aftermarket support. Maybe a miata diff. Or a Dana 44.

The true speed is the size of the tyre rolled on the ground by seating in the car and marking the tyre and the ground then rolling the car in a straight line till the tyre mark is at the ground again. The dia of the tyre is not the rolled tyre dia which speed is measured by the speedo.

I have worked with some --too many-- speed shops who are wishful thinking as in poor in managing the needed task(s) at hand Your very high-end backyard kart is awesome times two!!
