1. stop following hair gurus, learn your own hair 2. don’t use wrong products 3. stop jumping on bandwagons 4. trim your hair 5. no heat 6. protective hairstyling for some days 7. low manipulation 8. don’t deep condition over night (don’t go to sleep with wet hair) 9. don’t detangle your hair dry and have it slip when doing so 10. be grateful about your hair ❤

The misleading thing is that someone with beautiful hair like indigenous strandz will post a video entitled, "If you want long hair do this." And people like myself try it because we trust they know what they are talking about. I am learning the hard way to figure my hair out and it is very frustrating. I'm on my 4th big chop. Anyway, I really enjoy your video. Thank you for getting me to rethink what I'm doing to my hair.

Hey Sun Flower! Thank you! For the black natural hair community , really black women and hair , I know it is a very sensitive subject and I try to use my word wisely and give advice that I know of and that has worked for me. When I started my natural hair journey I would latch on to someone and follow everything they did verbatim and what I had to realize is that it should be used as a baseline and not exact. I had to learn my hair and learn that what works for her might not work for me. Being natural is truly a journey and I hope you find what works for you! Thank you so much for watching.

Good information. Mya, when you mentioned "LongHairDon'tCare" this brought back memories. Although I like to see the regimen of other naturals, I know I have to listen to my hair. I too struggle with hand in hair syndrome and going to bed with wet hair due to evening washes. Working on both of these. You mentioned Tangle Teezer. Some love it and others indicate it shreds strands. What are your favorite tools for detangling? Sorry for the lengthy dialogue. :)
@KlassicallyKept

Hey MJ! Not at all , I love to spark conversations in the comments. First tool my fingers. I take a mixture of aloe Vera juice, castor oil and some type of essential oil , usually peppermint , lavender , or rosemary , wet my strands and start from there. I use a wide tooth comb only after I have used my fingers. Lastly I use a tangle teaser. I use the tangle tease from tip to root to detangle even more and for definition.

I always look forward to watching your videos. Very detailed information. I always finger detangle prior to using detangling tools. I recently started using curlforms again to let my hair air dry during the night when I sleep after applying my rosewater, oil, and leave-in conditioner. This way I'm not going to bed with wet hair. I solely finger detangle each section before installing the curlformers. My hair will pretty much be dry before I go to bed, but I like to keep them in until the next day.

My hair is armpit length stretched out, but my shrinkage does not let my hair hang pass my shoulders. Any trichologist or cosmetologist will tell you hair is weakest when wet, and strongest when dry. As for detangling, I find that it depends on the state of the hair. For example I wash and blow dry weekly. I detangle with a light oil on dry hair before I wash because my hair is in beta state. Beta state meaning the hair is relatively straight, due to blow drying. Now if my hair is in alpha state I’m definitely using water to elongate my curls before attempting to detangling. Alpha state is when your hair is in its curly state. I wouldn’t dare touch dry curls with my tangle teaser. Those strong dry curls will curl up on each other and you’ll pull and break your hair right off. Using this method to detangle has done wonders for my hair. There are rules to the game. For context my hair is about 3-4” past bsl. I have 4b hair. Love you BP !!!
@KlassicallyKept
@KlassicallyKept 2 жыл бұрын
Hello Alison, thank you for the explanation about alpha and beta. I don't comb my dry curls either, that's a no no. The only time I really detangle is when I have washed my hair and I put my hair in large twists to dry so I can then install my mini twists. I cant wash and blow dry weekly, I would never leave the bathroom lol, but 2 weeks works for me perfectly. Thank you so much for watching.

@@KlassicallyKept love your channel. Obsessed with your twists and how you keep them. Using the rev air has helped me cut out about an hour or so from my wash. I’ve got it down to about 2.5-3 hours. I detangle my hair completely before washing. I wash in twist and work in 4 sections. I then split those sections into 12 sections while adding my leavein. Then I simply drop my twist in the rev air. No tension and minimal hair loss during tht blow dry because the revair has no tension. I love that thing. I don’t do twist I simply bun my hair using a slip satin hair scrunchie. I’m going to try twists again.

Because of my textures as well (3) on my sides especially is straighter or wavy the back as well the top is more curly, either way I used to think it was damaged and end up cutting ✂️. Now that I know the difference I maintain growth, the other thing is the less curly hair look longer when dry.

You definitely need to personalize and fine tune your methods and regimen. I, personally, am more extreme than most KZbin influencers. By that I mean I finger detangle exclusively use conditioning cleansers more than I do shampoo, and oil my ends at least three times a week. But my rate of length retention reflects this.

Excessive heat. I know one of the reasons women like to wear their hair natural is for the versatility. I myself straighten my hair once a year, and once it gets frizzy that’s it lol, I don’t re- straighten it, you get what you get lol . I know there are “ heat trained,” naturals out there. I don’t know about it so I do not speak on it, but in general excessive heat.
