Klein vs Wiha: Magnetizer Showdown

Your using the Wiha wrong. You don't go round and round like that. Notice the Klein don't have room to do that??? Slide the screwdriver straight in and out 2-3 times to magnetize and to demagnetize set the driver in the smallest valley it will fit go in and out a couple times then slowly slowly pull the driver straight out continue slowly pulling the driver straight out until your about 10-12 inches away from the whole unit completely demagnetized. If you notice most of these even after you demagnetize it they will still pick up very small metal shavings and such if you do what I said it won't pick up anything.

And I went with Wiha cause it is a better unit and they don't have the same magnets they state the c8 magnets on the Wiha for a reason. Stronger

I'll give that a go next time...thanks for the input! I keep the Wiha unit at the work bench and the Klein in a box.

@@jamesf9610 Thanks for explaining the right ways to use the Wiha. It makes sense - just like demagnizing tape recorder heads - you need to slowly draw the demagnitizer away from the heads.

I went with the Wiha after you demonstrated superior magnetism over the Klein, even with improper technique using the Wiha. In addition, the Wiha will accept many more tools and accessories than the Klein with its 1/4" magnetizing portal. Thanks for the comparison.

Bear in mind that steels suitable for screwdrivers & the like... will in fact magnetize, but are poor magnet materials... and never will strongly magnetize. Also, may automotive exterior trim/headlight screws are stainless & not attracted to magnets of any sort. Far as storage, I just stick them to the inside top of my box... but they'll stick to most anything ferrous.

I have the Wiha at home and my Klien on my Veto Pro Pac service bag for HVAC. Both work good.

Good to hear first hand feedback on BOTH units! That is my setup as well...the larger Wiha stays on the bench in the shop and the smaller Klein with the keyring goes mobile. Wiha is now showing their part to be black, but I"ve talked to some people who have ordered it and said it was still the green color...I suppose they'll roll the new color as stock dries up.

How long does the effect last?

I've never done anything long term. I usually only magnetize for certain installs and then demagnetize as I am typically dealing with metal shavings. I will try to remember to magnetize one tonight in the shop and leave it out so I'll remember to keep checking it.

Somebody said in an Amazon review that he magnetized his screwdriver & then took the screwdriver & put it in a socket & then moved it around & around. I imagine that doing this to a wrench would work based on the above.

Why not just try to pick up a weight. Also, you should redo the test using an electric magnetizer, it will charge it much stronger. Your audience also wanted the wrench to be magnetized and I guess you forgot about it.

Nice job in that you were more thorough than most and did a few mini "experiments" but you are clearly don't know much about magnetism so you were unknowingly misleading people. So A for effort, C + for presentation, but F for information/ knowledge.
