The idea of Theseus being traumatized by his killing of the Minotaur is very interesting

I also like the other games interpretation of Theseus. Like how hes friends with the Minotaur in Hades and got the door treatment in God of War.😂

Theseus is Jason if he didn't look back, didn't let his care for others hold him back, and didn't stop until he had what he wanted, morality be damned. Yes, I know what I'm saying. He's *awful.* But this is Athen's founder-king of myth. Of course they're going to hype him up no matter what he does. And Fate, through Circe's Interlude, indicates Theseus as exactly that; A version of Jason who lacks the moral compunctions that cause Jason to fail. He'll gaslight with a straight face, and form or cut ties as needed to maintain his success. Fitting for a guy who wanted to _kidnap the _*_child_*_ Helen of Troy and keep her until she was old enough to marry._

Now, I love best birb as much as the next guy but...Interludes are heavily implied to be a servants interpretation of events and Circe is a known liar. So I'd take that Interlude with a large grain of salt. Also, don't drink the kykeon.

While I recognize interludes can be... strange and somewhat unreliable, I find it hard to call Circe a liar in *this* instance. Theseus does a *lot* of things, and not a lot of them are what modern audiences would call "remotely acceptable." So it does line up with many of his greek myths to be characterized as "A *successful* slimeball." More to the point, this wasn't *just* Circe in the interlude I'm referring to. It's an (interactive) story she's telling, yes, but Atalante is right there in the servant-flesh and free to fact-check the recollection of events. One Servant mischaracterizing another, that's understandable. Two? Now we're tipping the direction of "I want to believe them."

@@JacksonJinnyeah…Atalanta is NOT an objective or remotely reliable source for much. Reminder she still hates Jeanne’s guts for ‘killing children’ in Apocrypha (purifying the grudges that form Jack’s existence) while still being sympathetic to Medea, who has the blood of children on her hands (let alone her ‘plans’ for Shirou and Artoria). The same Medea that also tried to kill Thesseus when she became his step-mom. Yeah…those two have very good reasons to go with the worst interpretation of Thesseus. Neither are very reliable as witnesses either

@@narutardkyuubi My point stands. The very fact they have *reasons* to characterize Theseus as a creep should stand as evidence of him *being* one. Again, I recognize one character having a disparate image, but two shifts things. And yes, one of those reasons is Theseus kidnapping a child Helen (who, it should be noted, is one of the sisters of the Dioscuri) to quite literally keep and raise her to be his bride. So while that ticks off a box of why Atalante would loathe him, that's... *kind of a good reason to loathe him, no?* Throw in abandoning Ariadne in an even worse way than Jason (Jason's plan was getting a proper princess so Medea and their kids would have royal protection from her murders. Theseus just dumped Ariadne on an island and booked it) and you get *why* Circe would hate him too. I don't understand the argument that he's being mischaracterized when... these are his myths. He's a vile character *in his myths,* and the main reason he's considered a hero for them is because he's credited as Athen's big king.

I like Theseus's characterization and personality in fate. This was an enjoyable video, thank you!

My understanding of Theseus's story is that he married Antiope, the sister of Hippolyta and Penthesilea, and had Hippolytus with her. Antiope died in a attack by the Amazons to rescue her, and Theseus never really got over it. He eventually married Phaedra for political reasons, but she was closer in age to Hippolytus, and tried to seduce him. When he rebuffed her advances due to a vow of chastity, Phaedra claimed that he tried to rape her, which forced Theseus to kill his son out of honor. Asclepius then resurrected Hippolytus who became the god Virbius.

You can really tell how messy the timeline of Ancient Greek mythology is when he is sent to Crete as a sacrificial "youth" on the 3rd occassion, so presumably 14 years after the agreement was made due to events that he was already involved in as a "youth". Like, he must've already been around his early 30s at that point. And that doesn't even get into how messy Medeas place is if he was supposed to be on the Argo later on.
