While I agree that a Vorlon Cruiser would out match Klingon Vorcha's, I don't believe it would survive a warp core breach (when the 2nd ship rammed it). If it did survive, it would be severely damaged and no match for the remaining Vorcha.

The Vorlons do have a few thousands (or is it millions?) of years of technological development above the Klingons. I expect them to win. But did the author of this video have to make one Klingon ship just explode in the first seconds? Then most of the Klingon weaponry missed a very large target. I agree that a sacrificial ramming with warp core breach would severely damage or outright destroy the Vorlon ship. That's a hellacious amount of energy being unleashed at point-blank range. This video, while interesting, stinks of bias.

The Thing about these sorts of Match ups, while they are fun. The technologies are in no way comparable. Ships from trek travel at trans light speeds in real space , and their weapons systems, and related Equpment reflex this. But even the Vorlons could only travel at sub-light velocities in real space. At the very least Trek ships weapons would out range anything the Vorlons or anyone else in the Bab 5Virce by literally LIGHT YEARS.

But B5 ships can travel through hyperspace, I'm not sure what the speed difference between the two is, but they're not exclusively moving at sub-light. Plus Hyperspace is something that they can just exist in indefinitely, so B5 ships have the ability to effectively hide, so element of surprise would probably be with them.

Millions, perhaps billions of years tech upgrades..stuff humans or Klingons literally couldn't understand. Take cloaking for example, I'd imagine over the countless millenia the Vorlons would have tried it and then their enemies defeated it so why bother, what purpose is there in sticking to weak and obsolete tech? You'd be wrong ... Vorlon and Shadow shields take over 2+ GIGAtons of damage. Photon Torpedo's do about 65 megatons of damage (according to the ST:TNG technical manual). You do the math.

Considering only a 500 megaton nuclear explosion, from a distance wrecked a Vorlon ship, a salvo of Torpedoes from some Klingon ships (plural) would have demolished that Vorlon piece of Garbage in short order. Think about it, a slow, lumbering Vorlon ship with only SUB LIGHT capabilities.. Photon torpedoes and Disruptors would have done almost equal amounts of damage. One attack pass or two would have rendered the Vorlon ship nothing but a lump of space turd. The Vorlons could hardly target, let alone maneuver enough to evade a pinpoint strike. You literally have no concept of the firepower of the Klingon ships versus and "UNSHIELED" Vorlon ship.. Done and Done. It would be no contest..

Interesting that the Klingons don’t appear to be able to hit a cow’s ass with a banjo in this. Vorlons have had a massive ship upgrade since the series and are immune to energy weapons, despite still not having developed shield technology. I’m currently rewatching B5 - enjoying the excellent story arcs and some interesting characters. But the B5 tech, even First One’s tech is not near the level of sophistication that appears in the Star Trek Universe. In a very one sided battle, a single DS9 or Constitution class ship would make very short work of a Vorlon or Shadow ship.

Everything that was invented in the cardboard universe of Star Trek, they most likely took place even in the Stone Age. If we compare purely technologies, then a Klingon can only butt heads with a Centauri on equal terms, and even then he looks weak next to them, considering how powerful the AI is in their ships..

Even disrupters would have. They are on par with Phasers and we've seen phasers bore holes through planet's crust down to the core. A vorlon ship isn't tougher than a planet. People also underestimate Klingon creativity. They are shown many times to be on par with the Federation when it comes to figuring out tricky ways to win fights and only a bit behind them when it comes to their engineering capabilities.

k, while I like B5, Star Trek (while certainly urealistic) is way overpowered technologically in how it's shown on canon of Star Trek as compared to B5. Klingons would win, even against the Vorlons, albeit perhaps with some difficulty. The Borg would annihilate all the First Ones. Sorry, dude. This is just my opinion based on what I've observed about the different technology types in each realm. B5 doesn't have shields like the ST universe does and the disruptor / phasers in ST seem way over-powered in IMHO.

They wouldn't. Both Vorlons and Shadows are telepathic and their ships biological which makes them impossible to detect. They would not recognize them as ships first! Also Shadow and Vorlon ships are very manoeverable unlike the Star Trek ships which would easily be picked off.

Nice animation, but the Vorlons don't have shields per se and have a bad time with nukes. The Klingons use anti-mater warheads on their torpedos, their disruptors are comparatively powerful, and their main reactor going critical is no joke either. The lone Vorlon would not have carried the day.

I am a B5 fan and a Star Trek fan. B5 is more realistic for physics and space combat but the Vorlon ship would have been destroyed or at least seriously damaged by the Klingon ship ramming it and rendering the Vorlon ship incapable to fight.

Yeah. Delenn explains the Vorlon armor. It dissipates the energy component of an attack leaving only the kinetic physical component. Plasma burts and particle beams are trivial but starship collision is nontrivial.

The fact that it rammed in the first place is the issue. But apart from the this is realistic. The Vorlon bio-ship are known to jam sensors and targeting systems. So “missing” them is a thing. Star Trek weapons are precision scalpels. B5 weapons are sledgehammers.

You seem to be forgetting that the Vorlon are themselves a God-like race. In fact several of the races in B5, such as the Minbari, originally worshipped the Vorlon as gods. No different than in Mass Effect, where many of the modern species either worshipped or still worship the Protheans as gods. Or how the Mintakans almost worshipped Picard as a god in TNG. Hell a Neolithic human would view a 21st century human as a god given we can appear to summon thunder and fire from thin air (using a gun in front of someone that has never seen one) and can force people into a little box that we care in our pockets (voices from a smartphone would give the appearance that we have imprisoned a person inside the little box).

Here is info, 2.6 megatons per isoton. Photon Torpedo damage is rated in ISO-TONS. Original series Photon Torpedoes were rated anywhere from 64 megatons to 80 megatons. Current yield, puts it somewhere in the middle from highest torpedo and yield setting to least, would put the strongest standard (non quantum torpedo) Photon torpedoes around 120 to 80, per torpedo. Keep in mind a Photon Torpedo detonation is much closer than the device used to smack the Vorlon ship in the show, meaning greater focused damage potential on a smaller are. In other words, 3 photon torpedoes would do severe damage due to the fact they would detonate directly on contact with the shields or hull of a Vorlon vessel or within mere meters of either, in a spherical area. Not kilometers away, very close. Factor in that you have a very large target, lumbering and slow to maneuver, you have 3 separate vessels that would attack in a Klingon attack pattern, likely approaching cloaked from behind, decloak each Vorcha attack cruiser firing a minimum of 3 photon torpedoes at once. That's 9 photon torpedoes and "game Over for the Vorlon vessel. Also take into account that Vorlons only had sublight capability, there is no way a Vorlon ship could ambush a Klingon Vorcha.

@@dcwjr : I seriously disagree. Sheridan showed how much damage nukes can do to both the Vorlon and the Shadow. A standard Photon Torpedo is still 64 melatonin of damage. Sure not the 600 Mt that Sheridan used, but not insignificant. It may take 4 or 5 torpedoes to make a statement. But they hurt and have longer range than anything in B5 universe. And if nothing else, use transporters to beam one inside a vorlon ship.

There are no such decks... on this ship new devices can grow before your eyes. There was one such unnoticeable episode in the series when they wanted to approach him in the hangar. In general, it’s hard for me to imagine such a fictional weapon that could even scratch a Vorlon cruiser. No matter what clever torpedoes you place there, they will be no more useful than a bow and arrow. Straczynski is so powerful because he writes the most cutting-edge science fiction. we were lucky enough to live with him at the same time...

In Kosh's death episode, Delenn says that a ship and it's pilot are linked and neither can live without the other. She was talking about a Vorlon transport. A Vorlon battlecruiser is likely to have more than a pilot. And even if doesn't, the battlecruiser would have it's computer/brain there, unless it's a decoy superstructure to trick enemy weapons.

Bit unrealistic in my opinion. While the Vorlons are OP...The two factors are shields and torpedoes. A lot more damage would have happened when the Vorcha Class ship rammed it. Not to mention the warp core would have detonated as well. The torpedoes to hit the main weapon would have taken it out. Just my 3.5 cents worth. I do enjoy your videos.

To be fair you have no idea the yield of explosion or the armour of the vorlon ship...plus vorlon tech being organic adapts to hits so after the first itd adapt to take almost no damage from it in the future :-) I love how people suggest star trek is science fiction when it's so obviously science fantasy with all their get out of jail single use never to hear of again weapons and science babble that saves them from the impossible :-)

You would need maybe quantums, at minimum…if not transphasic torpedoes. The Vorlons were toying with the Klingons. All they had to do was open a jump point (the Vorlon FTL) in the middle of the formation and destroyed all three upon arrival. Armor alone in Babylon 5 is generally thicker than the entire hull (armor included) used in Trek. That’s on top of the hull and Vorlon shields. Two Vor’cha didn’t stand a chance in this fight.

@@KallenSC Here is info, 2.6 megatons per isoton. Photon Torpedo damage is rated in ISO-TONS. Original series Photon Torpedoes were rated anywhere from 64 megatons to 80 megatons. Current yield, puts it somewhere in the middle from highest torpedo and yield setting to least, would put the strongest standard (non quantum torpedo) Photon torpedoes around 120 to 80, per torpedo. Keep in mind a Photon Torpedo detonation is much closer than the device used to smack the Vorlon ship in the show, meaning greater focused damage potential on a smaller are. In other words, 3 photon torpedoes would do severe damage due to the fact they would detonate directly on contact with the shields or hull of a Vorlon vessel or within mere meters of either, in a spherical area. Not kilometers away, very close. Factor in that you have a very large target, lumbering and slow to maneuver, you have 3 separate vessels that would attack in a Klingon attack pattern, likely approaching cloaked from behind, decloak each Vorcha attack cruiser firing a minimum of 3 photon torpedoes at once. That's 9 photon torpedoes and "game Over for the Vorlon vessel. Also take into account that Vorlons only had sublight capability, there is no way a Vorlon ship could ambush a Klingon Vorcha.

Something that is not common in B5. Soooo... I dunno.

First off a Photon torpedo detonated on contact with shields or hull, or within meters will have a different damage potential than a 500 megaton warhead detonated kilometers away from target, as was the case. A photon torpedo detonating on impact would have a much higher damage yield to target. Secondly the Vorlon vessel is vastly less maneuverable than the Vorcha due to differences in types of propulsion, with teh Vorcha being around 2.5 times more maneuverable, it's not just a size thing. Also, there are 3 Vorcha that can easily fire a volley of 3 photon torpedoes each. That's 9 Photon torpedoes per pass, until the compliment of torpedoes is expended. I would put it at 4 to 5 torpedo hits per pass and that is a conservative estimate. So being that the Vorlon would have been maneuvered on by 3 Klingon Vorcha, that have cloaking devices, the Kilngons would likely not have been able to be targeted by the Vorlon successfully. The very first Photon torpedo hit would have likely seriously damaged any shielding that Vorlon vessel would have had or worse, with little hope of out maneuvering a Vorcha to score a hit on it. But lets say one Vorcha was destroyed, in some sort of freak luck shot by the Vorlon. The Kilingons would have easily out gunned and out maneuvered the Vorlon vessel. And Finally, the damage estimates for photon torpedoes are all over the place from series to series, my numbers give variances for that specific problem with the lore of memory Alpha and other sites where this debate has happened. Notice I did NOT give the Klingons Quantum Torpedoes or Disruptors in this scenario.

The ships in B5 do not have shields add to that the fact Vorlon ships are biological based, I do not see how they could stand-up to Klingon disrupted fire and torpedoes. The Vorlons and the Shadows have comparable technology and we have seen Shadow vessels destroyed by the ships of the younger races. So it is not a stretch to think that Klingon weapons would be more effective than was portrayed here. Another point, the space faring civilizations of the Star Trek universe tend to battle at warp speed, which gives a tactical advantage to the Klingons. I can see the Vorlon weapon bringing down Klingon shields, but, using their superior speed and mobility, the Klingons can limit the length of time that the Vorlon's beam remains in contact with their shields. Even if the Vorlon ship could defeat the Klingons, it would not be so one sided.

The Vorlons, along with the Shadows, are hard to pin down technology wise. It's heavily implied that the ships and tech that we see in the show are heavily dumbed down from what they are actually capable of in order to give a punchers chance to the younger races on accounts that they are waging an ideological war which required the younger races to somewhat be capable of fighting back. Even the the Vorlon planet killer is magnitudes more powerful than anything we've seen in Trek.

Ummmm... Q, Species 8472, Douwd, Cytherians, Wormhole Aliens/Bajoran Prophets, and Iconians, just to name a few beings or races that are seemingly as powerful if not more powerful than the Vorlons. Vorlons are not capable, at least it is never shown, reversing time, moving entire solar systems or eradicating entire species with a thought. And there is no real method of determining how the Vorlons stack up against the Star Trek tech to begin with. There is no tech manuals or other written information as to the power output of Vorlon weapons, so no direct comparison can be made. Though it is established in B5, that Vorlon ships can be destroyed by a nuclear bomb detonated outside the ship but in close proximity, where as a Vor'cha class battlecruisers' defensive shields would protect it from the same weapon. And as stated by previous people there is never any mention of the Vorlon ships using shields of any sort, meaning they would be open targets to any weapons used by Klingons. The argument against this issue would be that even in Star Trek lore there are species that use bioships that are resistant or immune to disruptors and phasers, such as Species 8472 and the Living Ship Gomtuu.

Trek tech is infinitely superior to b5 tech...( I love b5 ).. the engines, shields, and weapons on an old constitution class could take out a vorlon cruiser. At worst they could beam the vorlons into space since no one in the B5 universe has shield or transporter tech. For comparison the vorlons and shadows had to build planet killer ships to destroy worlds. In TNG and VOY I can think of 4 episodes where the enterprise d or voyager could use thier phasers to drill to the core of a planet or moon to cause its destruction. And voyager is a science vessel.... it's like comparing ww2 battleship to one of today's guided missle cruisers.. the battleship is awesome... but the modern cruiser can kill it with one shot before the battleship is even in range to fire....

B5 is very short of technical details of their ships. We have to compare things that happen. In the big battle at the end of season 4 of B5 we saw most species able to fight against the Vorlons and Shadows when they fought together until the big power draining cloud came. Even the Earth's fighters were doing something at least. Earth tech in B5 is definitely far behind Federation tech in star trek...they don't even have artificial gravity without spinning sections after all...so if Earth ships in B5 could do anything, even if it was little, against Vorlons and Shadows then it stands to reason Star Trek would do very well against them. Yes Vorlons can blow up worlds, but so can most the ships in TNG and later. We even see single ships cause stars to super nova in DS9 on 2 separate occasions. Star Trek tech has nothing to do with size, their engineers are effectively wizards. Meanwhile B5 we never see technical people just change the way their technology work in the middle of the battle or series. So even if their pure firepower could pose a threat against Star Trek, in the end some Star Trek engineer would find some work around and take them out. Trek doesn't win most fights with firepower, they out think their opponents much of the time.

@@Tonydjjokerit Capturing some people in Star Trek won't give up ALL of their secrets. That's like saying capturing some americans will give up all technology created in America. Star Trek ships, especially in TNG and later, have shown to perform greater feats of science than anything shown in B5. They are also way more adaptive. Star Trek engineers, even Klingon ones, have created true miracles out of nothing, while in B5 most of the tech is very static. It does what it does and doesn't change much over the course of the show. I'm not saying the Shadows and the Vorlons don't have some awesome tech. Really the Vorlon planet killers are childs play compared to some of what they do. The Shadow Cloud in the final battle is very impressive in that it shuts down the entire fleet. The main point of Star Trek is how fluid its tech is compared to every other Sci-Fi. They create and adapt tech on the fly like no one else, and while the Vorlons and Shadows would be formidable foes at first, the Federation or others would figure out their tricks pretty quickly just like they've done to so many foes before. The dominion started out out teching the Federation and the Federation closed the gap very quickly. One Federation ship beat the Borg and Species 8472(though one might argue that Janeway is no regular captain but is in fact a Time Lord). While the Vorlon/Shadow tricks would certainly be threatening at first, their base level of shields/weapons isn't anymore impressive than Star Trek, in fact it could be argued it is worse because even Earth ships stood up to them a little and earth ships in B5 are WAAAY behind Star Trek tech. I get they are millions of years old, but Star Trek tech just advances way faster than most other Sci-Fi series. Now it would be hard to compare the Jump Gate travel speeds with Warp. Like Star Wars Jump gates seem to be able to travel across the galaxy in a matter of weeks, while clearly Warp Travel isn't that fast. But because Jump Gates and Hyperspace travel use a different dimension to cheat its way faster it isn't a very tactical travel mode. Warp can be used in combat which makes a warp capable species god like against a non-warp capable species in combat. In Star Trek there is no point in entering warp much in combat because the other side can too, but if the other side can't then you are a god. It is shown you can fire weapons from warp, and with their advanced computers could time flyby attacks from warp against a non-warp user and have them never even able to respond.

And then there's the battle between the Enterprise and the Reliant where each ship took multiple phaser blasts on their unshielded hulls without being completely bored right through and taking instant catastrophic damage that would result in the loss of the ship right then and there (and a Shadow beam effortlessly slices right through a ship in one single sweeping shot) It all depends on who's writing the script, heh. A way to look at this is if we "imported" a race into the other universe. Importing the Vorlons, a race millions of years ahead of most others still around in B5, into the Star Trek universe, and keeping that millions-of-years-ahead element and adjusting/scaling for that universe's tech, no race would stand a chance in a straight up fight, much like no younger race would stand a chance against them in the B5 universe. The Klingons, Federation, and other powers on that relative tech level would roughly be about the same as the Minbari, I imagine, if they were imported into B5. They would make mincemeat of Earth Force, the Centauri, Narn, etc., but would have no chance against the Vorlons, Shadows, or any other First One.

Vorlons...pretty powerful species with ships that are alive and have energy absorption hulls, remember this technology was copied to use for the Crusade Capitol Capitol ships, a Vorlon/Human hybrid ...The video shows some sort of shield deflection above the Vorlon craft , this didn't exist as they absorbed energy instead and it's why it was so hard to kill the Capitol ships..even the White Stars had some of this protection from small arms fire but big guns cut right through hulls.. If the B5 universe had actual shields with regeneration hulls and absorption technology, not one race of beings would be a equal to them.
