Thank you bro! I think mine blew because I kept plugging and unplugging the aux into my desktop jack. Now it rattles just like yours. I'll order the kit online and get back to this video when it arrives.

Fixed my promedia 2.1 rattle the way you showed. It was a bit frustrating at first because I got the speakers in non-working condition (wouldn't turn on) due to broken pin on the preamp connector (DIN connector). Finding similar DIN cable (to use its jack) and then repairing the preamp cable was a big pain in ass. But I was so happy to finally hear the speakers working that I put subwoofer on max volume and suddenly it started to rattle :( Accidentally I found your tutorial and indeed, the foam was damaged. After another 2-3 weeks of waiting on the foam to arrive from ebay (and then another 2 days of repairing) the speakers are finally fixed. Thanks for your tutorial!

Have had ours for 3 or 4 years from Costco for $99. I just ordered some $25 each 3" woofers with poly cones & neodymium magnets from Parts Express (#264-880) to try to tamp down the raspy sound of the Klipsch paper cones. I hope the 85db/1 watt sensitivity of the Parts Express driver is close to the unpublished Klipsch 3" paper cone. If not the tweeter will be way louder and everything will sound way too bright which I will fix by adding a resistor the tweeter to reduce it's output. I also: -removed the 6" woofer -disconnected the little 6" woofer -cut the ends off the wire from the Klipsch amp that went to the 6" woofer -used wire nuts to connect some 16/2 speaker wire out the port to my 10" infinity reference subwoofer box I use as a foot rest (the car we made it for we got rid of years ago) Bass is definitely deeper and better sounding but the Klipsch 6" is fantastic for it's size. Thanks for posting the video. I enjoyed watching you fix it and the sound demo at the end.

I'm going to try this, my sub just started rattling. These things were like $200 when I bought them, which had to be like 10+ years ago. They worked great till today. I'll let you know if this works, thanks! I just saw another video where a guy explains how to replace the entire speaker with a non-OEM one. lol. I looked up the specs and they're nowhere close to the same, and for a simple tear your method seems to make more sense. Or just buying a new set since they're only like $120 new now.

i ended up getting a set for only 10 bucks because the sub was really messed up as in id would have to recone it or just buy a new one. went a little overkill and put an evl 6.5 from skar, sounds amazing btw

How does it sound? Have you heard an original woofer 2.1 system or just yours? I have read that many of the 3rd party woofers don't have the same spec and don't sound as good.

@terencedalton72 so I gave the set to my dad for Christmas and it's been doing great, I wired it to be 8 ohms as 4 ohms would possibly harm the amp over time as the original sub was a 6 ohms. I did not hear how it sounded with an original driver so I don't have a frame of reference, but the Skar unit after about a solid month of break-in, loosened up great and sounded clean and hits hard, my dad told me that he is hearing bass lines in songs that he has never heard before. For the money it was totally worth it, the driver is made of materials that will outlast the amp, not to mention you will prob never send enough power to the sub to hurt it

I can't for the life of me get the woofer gasket off. There's no room between ring and the metal frame to get a knife in.

That was the scariest part for me, it definitely felt like I might tear something or break something, but you almost have to carefully jam the knife in there and it will pop in. I think this step varies the most between people because of how the glue settles over the years, just make sure you push the knife in at the right place!

@@nigamichigami Probably too late to help you out, but I used a heat gun to get it warm and was able to remove it by hand. Be careful though.

If you look into the Thiele small parameters of the Klipsch woofer, its actually pretty beasty and hard to replace if you want comparable performance. If you just order a cheap regular woofer from say Parts Express, like the Goldwood, it is cheaper but will not sound as good as original.
