Still waiting for a thought thru comparison between these and the former incarnation of these, the 160ms. Are these worth the difference in price -perspective.. I am much more interested in that than these vs the elacs UB's. So often the older vs newer models of other speakers are compared with demo differences or improvements. The comparison of the 600m and the rp 160m's are suspiciously missing or so rare...I have not seen them..I think thats sad.

I'm interested in the comparison with the UB5.
@kohnfutner96374 жыл бұрын
There's really not much comparison of the two. I own them both. A lot will come down to room size (Klipsch with larger rooms) and your upstream electronics (klipsch goes good with Yamaha YPAO though it takes knowing how to run the system to get the optimal settings it can do it, the Klipsch will suck with Audyssey settings, I gave up with Denon and Klipsch it was obvious the two didn't complement each other; elac goes good with Denon or Yamaha even though I still lean towards Yamaha being my favorite of the two brands. Denon is much more lively, detailed and bright, Yamaha is much more natural and dark. Both have beefy power with ability to push out a lot of clean undistorted bass.) Elac is good mid-range and reserved, good for easy listening, effortless, glosses over imperfections but can be slightly dark and recessed with Yamaha gear. Denon brings out the treble but something about the sound seemed more artificial than with the Yamaha but the Yamaha was so reserved at times that it became somewhat aggravating to me knowing there wasn't enough sparkle from the ub5 through the Yamaha. It's a hard decision to say which did overall better even though the Yamaha was easier to work with. The Denon likes to set high crossover points and says elac are out of phase most of the time. Klipsch is balls to the wall action and Dynamics. If you want speakers that sound big, wall of sound, instruments like brass or drums sound life-like powerful and authoritative, Klipsch is the way to go. Klipsch lacks some finesse, can be harder to listen to over a long course with some types of music like edm or badly recorded rock. Klipsch are difficult to set up. Klipsch is pickier with electronics you pair it with but arguably the brand with the higher payoff by far I would say. I recommend Klipsch as a secondary music speaker not a primary and as a primary theater speaker. Klipsch work perfectly with home theater. I recommend them for larger rooms; elac for smaller rooms. I recommend larger Klipsch like the 280f which can get by without a sub. Ub5 can get by without a sub but at far less dynamic levels. I think if you owned them both you'd understand what I mean that comparing them is like comparing a motorcycle to an every day driver car. Klipsch much more fun but I don't think it's a sound you want all the time for music (I could be wrong), elac smoother and soothing to listen to but lacking the fun. Klipsch is an experience like nothing I heard before. Elac is more like other speakers but done delicately well. Overall if I'm going to say which is my personal favorite: definitely klipsch but I prefer the 280f. The 600m just didn't have enough in the tank with only that 6.5" woofer but it's a good taste tester that can move to back or side channels. To get the big payoff from Klipsch - GO BIG (you also need a room that's pretty big too). As a standoff 600m against ub5 I'd probably take the ub5 just because it has a better overall balance on its own and the 600m lacks the punch and mid-range "bigness" that makes Klipsch shine. 600m isn't bad it just wasn't enough for me. If you go from 280f to ub5 it's like going from a supercar to a gas sipper. Klipsch is far more amazing and impressive but sometimes you don't want muscle you just want a nice smooth ride, a delicate whirl in the background or to relax - you won't really get that from Klipsch but you would get that from elac ub5 or JBL studio 580 (which would be a much better comparison).

Klipsch really improved.I can NOT use the previous model reference nearfield. I can use the 600M desktop. Thanks for the most comprehensive review on these I have seen. Most people just praise them and say they are the best with no real comparisons and it got annoying to me. You did a good job comparing it to other speakers and the upsides and downsides to it. I tend to trust your reviews more than most other people. I guess my problem and not liking them so much is that I haven't compared them to other bookshelf speakers because I've always had Tower speakers. It seems like compared to other bookshelf speakers in the price range they're pretty on point. But, in my house I use Tower speakers and for my computer powered monitors that are cheaper than those and they sound better in my opinion especially in the woofer past band.

I know you have these on a leaderboard under the klipsch the five. But, if these RP600M have a good amp. Are they still under the fives? I purchased a SvS SB-2000 to add to my Pa system I'm using for my audio. But now I'm disappointed. Because now I want my highs and mids to sound better than these Harbinger HA120's.Which have no imaging or soundstage. Kind of confused which route I should go... the powered/active speakers seem to work better with my setup being hooked up to my tv and computer. I like being able to turn up the volume to fill a large room for parties. As well as be able to watch movies and play games. Was also looking at the Kanto TUK's because they look so sexy. But then seen where they are on your board lol... The fives also have the HDMI arc which would be useful for when I switch to one of the consoles and back to pc. I wouldn't have to keep messing with the volume. Would much rather get some powered floor standing speakers so I didn't have to buy extra floor stands that basically take up the same space as the bookshelf speakers on stands will. BTW thanks for the recommendation on the SvS sub, it's a lot better than what I had.
@joentell3 жыл бұрын
I think the RP600M's have more potential to sound good WITH DSP. If you invest in a MiniDSP 2x4HD or the MiniDSP DDRC-24, it will take that system to another level. That's really the key. It will help integrate that subwoofer seamlessly. It's one of the best upgrades you can do in my opinion. You will also need a UMIK-1 microphone.

I could've bought them when they came out, but I have so many products (speakers) in for review it's ridiculous. It takes up a ton of space. So I try not to race to be first. At the same time changed the amplifier and got the Yamaha MusicCast R-N803D. I enjoy vinyl and Spotify via the amplifier. MusicCast is just fabulous . I do not use Bluetooth. I’m done now! Most improvements are voice clarity at lower volumes. The room calibration on my amp is excellent! I would perhaps consider a subwoofer. I find the base quite reasonable. @joentell4 жыл бұрын
Most bookshelf speakers I've reviewed do not have threading on the bottom. The Kanto speakers do. The white stands are from Kanto and are awesome. Nice weight to them and they have a way to screw into Kanto speakers. You could do it to other speakers if you're brave. When you bolt it down it feels like the speaker and stand are one unit. You can also lock in the toe-in angle while keeping the base facing straight ahead. That means you don't have to redo it if someone nudges the stand, just face them forward and you're good. Also provides a way to hide the wires down the center. bit.ly/KantoSP32PL

@TheHammerofDissidence4 жыл бұрын
You're right about the sensitivty being a little overrated. I believe others have measured it and it's really around 90db. Still, it's pretty sensitive. I own the previous model, the 160ms, which share the same specs but have a slightly different tweeter design. I agree the RP line is the most smooth sounding speakers Klipsch has put out although I would still advise against pairing them with bright sounding gear. I tried a pair with the Rega Brio 2017 and they were ear bleeding (but oozed detail. Too much detail, in fact!). Neutral or warm sounding gear is where most people will want to be. Those speakers will shine with tubes especially.

It's largely due to the way Klipsch measures sensitivity. I don't understand why they insist on measuring all the speakers the same way they measure their Klipschorns.

Hi Joe N Tell, need your advise on a 3.1 system home theater Klipsch set up I am looking. Klipsch R-51M bookshelf speakers, R-52C center, R-120SW subwoofer. Will a PS Audio Sprout 100 enough to power this Klipsch setup? Is this kind of Amp limited only to a 2.1 system? Or would you suggest a not so expensive but quality AV receiver that I can expand to a 5.1 system set up in the long run? Thank you.

Love your reviews. Can you do a review on the Definitive Technology Pro Monitor 1000's. Really don't have any reviews and they are very nice Speakers.

Another great review Joe, i watched every single your new video. You are one of my trusted reviewer. I'm interesting with next video comparation rp-600m vs ub5. I have both of these speaker, but i have a problem. based on several review, UB5 should be warmer sound, but in my case UB5 is much more fatiguing than RP-600 with the exact same system, the diferent only the speaker. Even only 30 minutes lisening session with ub5, its very fatiguing, i cant handle it. I dont know why, maybe some gear in my system is not match with ub5. My system: - 5.2.4 using AVR denon x4500, lisening music using stereo mode (2.2) - Front speaker preout to Emotiva XPA-3 gen1 (200W @8ohm and 300W @4ohm) - every time i switch the speaker, i run audesey calibration again. - playing spotify from mobile phone direct to denon x4500. Do you have any clue about my problem joe?
@joentell4 жыл бұрын
I think your problem is Audyssey. The UB5's have a recessed treble response as intended by Andrew Jones. Audyssey looks at that and thinks it's an issue so it tries to boost the treble. That's why on this video I said, "it's better to cut than to boost." Boosting can make a speaker sound like it's struggling. It can make the sound harsh and unnatural. Try listening to them both in pure direct mode and I think you'll have a different opinion.

Ahhh i see, thanks for the clue Joe🙏, will try your suggestion.

I agree, Audessey tend to make speakers brighter, YPAO sound best to me. Audessey does have a setting called Audessey flat that sometimes works better

does this speaker sound better to you than the svs ultra? really?
@joentell4 жыл бұрын
They're very comparable, but this has significantly more bass extension. For a home theater with subs crossed over at 80hz, it's a toss up, but if you plan on listening without a sub, I have to give it to these Klipsch.

I bought the 600M's for my home theater system and they're OK for the money. Definitely not the "giant killers" that everyone was gushing about, but decent for the money. I'm glad the hype has finally died down.

They wouldn't compete with floor standing speakers or anything. But I think they're excellent for their size and price.

Anybody know why klipsch doesnt make any 8 inch driver bookself speakers anymore?
@thang17424 жыл бұрын
pretty much turns it into a bookstand at that point, also it would require 2 plug in for the speaker wires, bigger woofer = more wattage
@CJ-hr1ni4 жыл бұрын
They should make a 12 inch version of these speakers. We need more good bookshelf speakers.

I love your reviews they are outstanding! My only problem is when you mention about measurements it hard to deal with that. As a normal guy listening to music that don’t matter. Listening is more valuable not what is measured. Keep up the Great Reviews...
@joentell4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. You should learn to read the graphs. They will tell you a lot about a speaker. Double blind research has been done that shows that there's nearly a 90% correlation between a well behaved, good measuring speaker, and listener preference. In other words, you might not love a good measuring speaker, I'm pretty sure you won't like a poor measuring one.

Been watching for this review. Curious about how close it comes to your Whafedale Dentons.
@joentell4 жыл бұрын
Ohhh....different beast. Good question. Part of the appeal of the Denton 85th is the look. It really looks beautiful to me. That messes up my perception and it's hard to be objective. I think the Denton plays more like a bigger old school speaker. Like the type of speaker you would find with a stereo rack. They just sound big. I think they are less forward on the top end but not as laid back as the UB5's. They just hit a sweet spot for me. They also are a bit picky with placement. They require more power. For playing loud and for home theater, I think Klipsch is the way to go since they have voice matched center, rear surrounds and height speakers. Also, the Wharfedales we're almost double the price.

@FOH36634 жыл бұрын
Space constraints are certainly understandable. Physically, the Heresy's aren't too big. Also, in my opinion as long as the inter-drive unit spacing/integration is acceptable, nothing is too big.

What is the actual difference between the Rp 600 and the previous model Rp 160?I have mine with a Yamaha A501,dragonfly cobalt dac ,they pump out a decent sound,but I need to move volume knob to the middle ,for decent amount of sound,would a higher watt amp be able to drive these speakers further?
@russelhaxby61944 жыл бұрын
I have the A-S501, and I suspect that the volume control is calibrated so the mid point (12 o'clock) on the knob delivers about 10% to 15% of the power, and half power is at the 2 or 3 o'clock position.

Why does Joe say they are 8 ohm speakers? Unless I’m tripping, I’m 99.9% confident that Klipsch, Amazon, et al rate them at 4 ohms. Thanks in advance for any clarification… Joe is in competition for my *favorite* speaker reviewer, so I pray no disrespect is inferred by anyone… Joe and his team *definitely* have the highest production values in their corner of KZbin❣️

I have a marantz nr 1608, 50 w per channel,and in thinking buy the klipsch rp 6000f cause has high sensitivity. The other option is kef q 550. Do you think its better option the klipsch cause the high sensitivity? Or maybe my marantz could move the kefs? What do you think? Thanks so much.
@John-ok8ts4 жыл бұрын
I bought these and the 600C to go along with them and I have to say they just didn't sound "right". They sounded tinny for home theatre and awful when listening to music. I replaced them with KEF Q350s and Q250C which I love. That said I do quite like the little Klipsch atmos speakers (good for special effects for the reasons Joe described) and kept them as the KEF ones are also very expensive.

totally agree.i have a pair of rb62 (reference 2 6inch) and i notice the same conclusions. im usingna 20w rms b class amplifier. low thd. and first of all. ehen you buy this speakers, its not neccesary buy a powerfull amplifier,just look for flat power and low thd. the position in to the room will affect the experience of this speakers. if you get the sweet spot you will notice a live sound that inmerse you into the music. also check the altitude of them because if your position its higher than tweeters you lost some detail

Danny Richie (dba GR Research) did complete measurements on the RP-600M's and estimated 90 dB/W before and 92 dB/W after his modifications (his crossover modification closed the response dip at 1.5 KHz). Stereophile estimated 91 dB/W so your rough estimate came pretty close.
@hilde454 жыл бұрын
Has anyone measured the sensitivity as high as Klipsch claims? Creates a credibility problem for them.
@crazyprayingmantis55964 жыл бұрын
Apparently you have to pull these apart and change the crossover components and binding posts etc before they'll sound any good. ;)
@randomtube82264 жыл бұрын
I really liked these speakers. But the reason I didn't keep them. Was because they lack bass compared to other speakers in its price range. If Klipch made an 8in bookshelf version it would hit the sweet spot.
@iowaudioreviews4 жыл бұрын
According to GR Research and Audio Science Review these may sound pretty good but actually don't measure very well and would need xover and cabinet work to get the best of them. So for this kind of money I'll have to pass. I can build something better myself for less. Great review, big fan of all your content.
