Only problem with a ranking list is that it creates a scenario where people buy whatever Erin recommends, just because he recommends it. That isn't what he wants to do. He's trying to help you figure out what option you will like best. He isn't trying to make the decision for you.
@bokramubokramu8834
@bokramubokramu8834 Жыл бұрын
@@fredygump5578 i disagree. he always stresses the subjective component when it's the case. That's exactly why such a ranking would be interesting - he is a honest and upfront reviewer. Mix that with the amount of knowledge+experience and the top hardware he uses for measurements and you have the best hifi youtuber. That's why many of us are interested in this subjective ranking. It's not a buying recommendation necessarily

Mine are set to 6 and I often wish there was more treble, depending on the source of course. Being used for TV mostly they sound incredible and we NEVER have to turn it up to hear the voices which my wife appreciates 100%. Low effects heavy content using the Klipsch 24" stands couple these beasts to the floor and they will shake the floor. My wife likes them better than our big 9.3.4 surround setup because she always hears the voices perfectly and only 2 speakers in the living room.

Great to see you back brother! My favorite audio/speaker reviewer on KZbin/the internet (along with Andrew Robinson). So insightful and detailed without being over the top or exaggerated. While Klipsch aren't my favorite speakers they do their job pretty well and are overall decent to good speakers for the masses at reasonable prices with nice, classic aesthetics. Much better for home theater than critical music listening in my opinion but I can see their appeal for certain people and genres like rock. Personally I've got their sister company Jamo and again not the best speakers money can buy but the C95 towers I picked up at $400 per pair sound good to me and score really high in WAF as well as my personal aesthetic tastes. Picked up the matching sub for $200 and while there's no question there's better out there it'd be hard to beat this 2.1 combo for $600 in a general living room or affordable theater setup. Though both brands have elevated treble I prefer the silk tweeter the Jamos use to Klipschs titanium/aluminum. While the Jamos can definitely get bright at higher volumes I find the extra treble/clarity welcome at lower volumes which is how I do 90% of my listening and are great in general for TV/movie/dialogue speakers. The carpet in my living room also helps dampen their brightness. I use Kalis for music and critical listening/mixing and they are outstanding in my opinion but wish they made them with optical/consumer connections which I know they considered at some point. Even hooked up to my bedroom TV via headphone Split to RCA they sound pretty awesome.

The only thing that is stopping me from signing on the dotted line is that narrow directivity. I always love a wide directivity speaker, think Focals. The KEF Metas are as narrow as I can accept, anything lower and its a no go. With a speaker that does plus or minus 30 degrees, you can do nothing but to toe the speakers in for a good center image. With wide radiation speakers, toe in is barely required. Yeah, I wont get a pin point laser sharp center focus but it will be more life sized, if that makes any sense. Thank you once again Erin for your hard work!!!

I have the nines and with a signwave generator I was able to hear bass tones as low as 23hz just not that loud and in specific spots in my room. it played noticeably deeper and cleaner bass than my partybox 710 which i can hear down to 27hz which coincidentally matches the measurements Rtings got for the 710. These Nines make my Edifier S3000 pro sound like a toy especially at low volumes because the NInes have incredible low volume bass adjustment. If you want to shake walls 30 feet away at 20% volume the Nines can do it.

This is why I PEQ. Many contemporary Klipsch speakers have excellent directivity, which is far more important than raw frequency responce when PEQ is in play. Looks like klipsch has PEQ'd/DSP'd this into great shape. I saw this at AXPONA and had a great feeling about it. I want one. I like the contemporary Klipsch horn sound once the frequency responce errors are tamed. THANKS!

After watching almost all of your speaker reviews and developing a better understanding of the various measurements I think I found the next pair of speakers to try at some point. Still keen to understand whether a concentric speaker design with wider radiation than this would likely suit a small highly reflective space better? The kh120a currently in place have a wide and even dispersion from 500hz all the way up which I think causes a lot of resonance in the mid mids as well as high energy in the upper mid/treble area. Love!

Wow..I had heard some good things about this speaker but i wasn't expecting this. It really has some good features plus the frequency bandwidth is pretty impressive. Personally I can't handle a speaker that rises in the treble area, even though I'm deaf after about 12k, but it's cool the app gives you a work-around with the EQ. PEQ would be better but at least they give you something. Definitely not bad for a All-in-one type speaker..not for me but I know some people that this would be a good choice for. Solid review as always 👍

Thanks for this excellent review. I have been a fan of actively powered loudspeakers for several years now, ever since I invested in Paradigm Reference Active 40s which were first introduced in 2001. I actually prefer active speakers but I realize I am in the minority in this regard. (Although the Paradigm Active 40s received glowing reviews they were not on the market for long; because few people recognized the benefits of active speakers back then.) I'm glad to hear that Klipsch has produced a fine active speaker with The Nines, and as this model is affordably priced I could easily see building a multi-channel sound system with these speakers.

I agree, these seem to be a perfect speaker for most, you could live with these for good if the amps stay alive and can buy replacements if something happens, and I've owned over 200 different speakers and these deliver, very very good, and I'd say 40 Hz is being modest, they seem to get down to 32 Hz without any trouble or turbulence, past 28 or so at higher db you'll get some turbulence, but yes, they are my favorite pound for pound Klipsch speaker, probably my favorite all around bookshelf (large), but I do love the fortes also, but that's not a fair comparison.

Assuming one is listening in a fixed position (not moving around) and you had a speaker like this Klipsch with narrow directivity towed-in in an optimal way and compare that with a speaker with a wider dispersion pattern, could one easily hear a difference (assuming you take room interaction out of the equation) Is narrow directivity vs wider dispersion an easy to pick out difference?

Everyone seems to love them but every time I hear the F100 in different showrooms (yeah it's a terrible place to audition them) they sound like they have the old "loudness" curve to them. Boosted bass and trebles. They're often surrounded by competing towers and using the switcher (and trying to volume match) they sound like they have that boost in comparison to other similarly priced towers.

Demoing these and The Sevens soon. I've heard from a few people The Nines have a little cabinet resonance that can hurt vocals and movie dialog intelligibility so I wanna see if I can hear it for myself. If I do hear it, here's hoping a Mk-II has better cabinet bracing and more grill options - I don't like the cream. The EQ could simply be changed in an update to the app. Good review anyway.

5 bucks says they are hearing room resonaces lite up more than usual due to the hearty bass. Also the somewhat wide cabinets can support male vocals a bit more than thin designs so in room they may sound chesty but what is what is personal taste.

these look pretty nice w/ the horn all the way to the edge... i think the equal loudness contour for the corresponding age group should be considered by listeners. 14-16kHz is where the sensitivity is greatly diminished for males around 40yo. not a lot happens that high but speakers w/ a rise there might just offer some help.. :) *the elc is also SPL dependent, is it possible that powered speakers take that into account, dynamic EQing of sorts?

enjoyed this review very mucj. is ther any chance that you could also review The Seven's? The Nines are a bit larger than I would ideally like to use but The Sevens would work size wise for me. if The Seven's work as well as The Nine's do I might just pull the trigger on a pair. thanks.

Right... I am in a pickle now... I had set my mind on the Lintons to upgrade from my RP-600Ms, together with a Purify D-Class amp, they would cost the same the Nines. I have a DAC and phono-pre amp for TT, so would not need to buy those. Now you drop this on me.. Which one would you go for. I do enjoy a wide soundstage like you, but also like the forward and lively sound of Klipsch. What would you do? Is the Linton still better?

Erin, meu nome é Flávio, moro no Brasil. Para uma sala grande, qual caixa se comporta melhor, as Kef LS50 W2 ou as The Nines? Qual seria a melhor escolha? Obrigado

Thank you for not using flowery language when describing the speaker's sound. I don't trust people who use those subjective words that have different meaning to everyone. Sounds like I'm being sold snake oil. Doesn't make any sense because I've only heard the speakers I bought and a few from a local furniture store or Best Buy. I can't understand that crap when I'm watching a review for a technical understanding.

Since you love a wide soundstage.. I can not recommend enough, finding a pair of EPI 100v speakers. Get the ones that have the Updated tweeters (plastic bezel, rather than particle board bezels). The speakers are basically Holographic. They vanish from the room.. and the sound seems to simply be Projected into 3d Space... as if the band were playing live, in the room. Almost to the point, where you could point to each position of an instrument, that would be playing in a certain spot. I could literally blindfold you, and you wouldnt be able to physically find the speakers... thats how amazing their projection is... In fact... When I first heard them playing, I was at a buddies slotcar track / business. I was blown away by the music's clarity, dynamics, and Spatial 3D soundstage (I believe Disco "Earth, Wind and Fire" was playing, at the time.. and that stuff has a lot of instruments and dynamics going on). Anyways... I knew right then and there... that I had to find out what speakers were playing, as I had to have them. My buddy is a bit of a pack-rat / hoarder. His shop was a total chaotic disaster / mess... with books, magazines, receipts, inventory, dvds...etc... all in piles, all over the place... I spend a good 10 minutes, trying to pinpoint where the speakers were... and FAILED. This was incredible, because I have EXTREMELY sensitive ears... and I could normally find a speaker Blindfolded, quickly, with ease. The sound field, was probably a good 15x15 ft, before I would walk far enough away, that I noticed a Drop-Off in volume levels... thus.. I could tell they were in a general area... but that area was quite large. I gave up searching, and asked directly asked him what speakers were playing... and WHERE the heck they were. He walked me to the front of the store... about 1ft away from the Store window-glass. Raised up about 1ft from the floor... sitting on a long bench/platform. One of the speakers was vertical... and about 5 ft away from it.. the other speaker was laying on its side, with about 2ft worth of magazines stacked on top of it. In fact, the 2nd speaker was partially blocked... behind an arcade racing game. Basically... the WORST possible speaker setup. Yet.. this was some of the best 3D + Clear and Dynamic audio, that I have ever heard, in my entire Life. I quickly found a refoamed pair from a local seller online, and got them back home. At the time, I didnt have the room to properly place them... so I had to shove them under my large PC desk. Despite this... they sounded every bit as fantastic, as Id previously described. You would never have suspected they were under the desk. At one time, I had them down stairs, sitting on top of a pair of Large Advent speakers (much larger than the EPIs). I was testing both of them, with a home theater setup. I had a friend over... and started playing some music (with some deep bass) and asked him which speaker he thought were playing. Mind you, the EPIs are almost half the size of the Advents. He was only about 7ft away, sitting on the couch. He pointed to the large advents. I laughed, told him what was playing, and flipped between the two, to show him the differences. The EPIs have a VERY powerful 8" woofer... and its in an Airtight Box. The bass they create, is punchy, musical, and crystal clear in accuracy. I was used to running larger 12" 3way Techniques speakers that were ported... that comparatively have muddy and distorted bass. These caused me to put those newer Techniques speakers, out on the Curb, the next day. In fact, the EPIs are about 2 to 3 times heavier than the much larger Techniques speakers... mostly due to the EPIs using a much more powerful woofer.. with much larger and stronger magnets and coils. The Tweeter is very unique. It is an Inverted (concave) design... rather than the typical Domes that you see on other speakers. Its highly sensitive, and detailed, yet its never "Harsh" to the ears. It seems like the shape of it, helps to spread the sounds all over the room... in a way that no other tweeter / speaker that Ive ever encountered, could even come close to matching. An interesting thing said about their design... was that the Designer used heavier gauge wire on the woofers, to automatically cancel out any high frequency... thus, no need for an additional crossover filter (which could further distort the sound). I believe his theory was right... because I was hearing things in music, that Id never heard before. For example... certain singers lyrics that got muddied between the music... that you never could fully understand what they were trying to say. With the EPIs... not only was I able to hear the exact words... but it was undeniably clear. AND... the music behind those vocals.. was perfectly separated, without being muddied. Just make sure when you purchase them, that you are getting the Original Drivers. You dont want poor replacements. Its pretty easy to tell, as the originals have a unique look to them, with a small diameter dustcap. Also, again... watch for the older vs newer tweeter. The older version isnt half as good as the new version. Ohh, and one other story... One of my other friends, said that he was thinking about buying a $3000 pair of speakers, from a high end audio shop. He wanted to meet me at the shop, to get my personal opinion. I suspected they would be over priced Eco-trash.. but I drove down there. Sure enough... they were thin, small driver, towers... that were Fatiguing in the treble and midrange, and severely lacking in the bass. And what bass was there... was artificial sounding. Even when the salesdude fired up an expensive SUB... it didnt help. My $100 used EPI's.. completely DESTROYED them, in every single way. I chuckled, and told them both, that they were garbage. I personally believe my former friend, has hearing loss issues.. hence, he cant really tell what hes missing / hearing. Im 50 yrs old, and still have my high frequency range sensitivity... where as many teens often lose the higher frequency range hearing.. when they reach adulthood.
