As the guitarist of one of the most legendary bands in rock 'n' roll history, Robby Krieger is full of stories from his time with The Doors. For this episode of New & Approved, Robby joined Matt Pinfield to dive deep into his past and also to discuss what he's currently up to.
This year, The Doors are celebrating the 55th anniversary of their album "Strange Days." To celebrate, the Robby Krieger band will be performing at The Whisky a Go Go, where The Doors used to regularly perform at during the 1960s.
Robby and Matt explore each of The Doors' albums and discuss the tales surrounding each record. Although Jim Morrison wrote a majority of songs, Robby also wrote a plethora of Doors' tunes including the hits "Touch Me," "Light My Fire," and "Love Her Madly" along with deeper cuts like "Wintertime Love" and "Yes, The River Knows." Robby discusses the inspirations behind many of his penned songs.
We also learn more about Jim Morrison's life and Robby's friendship with his bandmate. He talks about how they worked together and how the band really tried to help him become sober.
Be sure to catch one of Robby Krieger's upcoming shows and to check out his website for more news here:

This is a great interview by Matt. Love that Robby is still prolific and recording this late in life that he forgets the name of his last album. May he get to do it right up the end like Bergman and Kurosawa did with film.

May God bless my friend and guitar hero, the great and incomparable Robby Krieger! He's such a humble, loving, and generous human being. Robby is also a musical genius and a living icon. He's still expanding on his genius by creating brilliant and innovative music today! He's an incredible songwriter, composer, musician, and arranger. He's incredibly versatile as a guitar player. He plays so many different styles so well, blues, psychedelia, rock and roll, jazz-rock, rhythm and blues, funk, hard rock, and flamenco. This cat is highly underrated! But, that's okay because true music intellectuals are aware of his brilliance. My favorite guitar solos by him are from Texas Radio and The Big Beat, Who Scared You, When The Music's Over, It Slipped My Mind, and The Mosquito, from the FULL CIRCLE album. A real funky and melodic cat! His son Waylon is also a talented and charismatic singer as well. Shout out from your homie Frantz, Robby!

Robby’s great to listen to. When I was in college in 81 we would hang out with a friend who had a good stereo with a limited record collection but one of them was Strange Days and that’s when I grew to love that album. I’ve got tickets to the show in Castaic. I’m a fan of the Soft Parade. I think the LP sounds amazing and it’s been on regular rotation since I bought the box set a few months back. Five stars. Signed copy of Robby’s book I couldn’t put down, that’s why I’m so into the Doors again.

He signed my old boot VHS that Ray had signed years earlier too bad Ray's signature is pretty faded and Robbie's is to Lee which collectors don't like or i'd sell it for a lot
