Thanks for the video! One thing I might do in addition to your procedure is to fully remove the two nuts at the clutch end so they don't hang up when pulling the new cable through.

Super easy to do, best $9.99 I've spent on the bike. Felt impossible to pull the clutch, now it feels show room smooth again.

Hello everybody..hahha. new to repairs for motorcycles. I have a 1st gen klr 650. Got it partially apart (85 percent whole) runs but assembly required..... Had to replace the clutch cover because of a whole in the previous, put the new/used cover on etc. My question is was the clutch mechanism suppose to be faced a certain way before I had put the clutch cover back on. One thing I noticed when loosing the clutch cable and snaking it through was that that mechanism can come out of the cover? oh yeah can someone recommend a good stuck rear caliper video. much appreiated Johnny

You know you could Remove those Nuts on the Old Cable ... Right ? Instead of having them impede the cable being pulled up through the chassis.

I tried doing this with my bike but whenever i go from Neutral to 1st gear (while holding the clutch) my bike jolts forward and stalls. Why is this?

Hey partzilla, my clutch is really heavy and when I try to accelerate fast it seems the clutch is slipping, I took part the clutch and the plates seems fine, but then I noticed the clutch arm was really tough to pull, and i can’t aim it toward the back to pull it out, I also saw that the rod was sitting flush with the cover like there wasn’t any gap ,any idea what this problem is ? Thanks

Quick update I’m starting to see fresh metal shavings where the rod seats on the inside of the cover (close to the notch that catches the basket ) is my clutch rod bent ?

Check to see what is worn or damaged. Might not hurt to replace the clutch arm.

Partzilla I actually was playing around with it and got it to come out the cover, I lubed up the arm and where it seats, and also got rid of the metal debris as they caused friction , and now it seems to be moving more freely ! I’ll be installing the cover back on and see if I’m still experiencing clutch slippage

John P. Hey sorry for the late reply , I think the previous owner put on the wrong case , I have a 1988 and the case is one from a early 2000s and I’m pretty sure he used the old clutch arm assembly and that is of different size so when you pull it it feels very heavy, and if you try to move it by hand it will not it only moves if you hit it with a hammer or pull on it with the lever

Also do yourself a Favor Tape something Big to the Clutch arm end of the New cable to prevent it being pulled accidently up too far ! A tennis ball even. This really sucks if you get distracted and pull the cable too far. Save a 2 hr fishing job.

not at all, pointless would be removing all fairings to put the cable on....very good tip.
@paveltrue
@paveltrue 6 жыл бұрын
It's actually a great one. While the cable is very accessible on on the KLR, it is not as easy to reach on some other bikes, where you have to take plastic fairings and the tank off to install the cable the way it was intended to be installed by the manufacturer. Taping the new cable to the old one really makes those steps unnecessary and saves a bit of time, so thank you for this one!

Let me have you replace a Clutch Cable on a Classic Vespa Scooter if you think this is a Useless tip . Your the type that likes to damage things with a Sledge hammer I suspect when they don't go your way.
