Can you show tips for elbow fighters please

is there a way to protect your chest (solar plexus) from kicks and knees, even when I just do 50% sparring, I get hit there by a knee and I drop instantly. From then on I get scared for those shots and I end up doing a philly shell (southpaw and ortho) using my front arm to protect my chest. Can this problem be solved with conditioning?
