Kmart I work at closes Sunday too. We only got Christmas decorations and clothes left pretty much and a very very small select few of random things that will probably be all gone by tomorrow. But still quite a bit of equipment left for sale. I have the day off today. lol.

i ben to my kmart in mattydale new york and its full and people are going to it . that is because they are the only ones left. and i founf they had a garden center i never knew they had one . they are closed for winter but they are shutting down summer 2018 so they wont be opening back up.

There used to be two Kmarts in the town nearest me which is Pueblo, CO,(Do note this is the note this town is 45 min from me but is not the only town near me its just the only one that has Kmart(s).) but one of them closed in 2013 and is still vacant to this day. The Kmart that is closing in Colorado Springs is supposed to be torn down and have a hotel built on the property.

WallieB26 I do hear that dollar stores, and stores like Big Lots, TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and others that are "discount" or "off price" chains sometimes buy things left over from department stores that didn't sell the previous year or season. What they then do is knock the price way down and sell the item at a big discount. Things often sell well this way.

I've heard two rumors about what may go in there. Heard talks of splitting the building up and turning it into a strip mall, and possibly Kuhns might move next door. It does sound like a stretch, but I heard Kuhns was getting a remodel or something to that effect from one of their employees who frequent the great K, so who knows, they may just move. As far as I know now though, the building has not yet been claimed by anyone. It's just going to be an empty shell of a building for now.

RMU did not buy it. They are no longer allowed to buy up anymore property because they don't pay taxes and Moon Township said no more. They had to tear down one of their own buildings on their campus to build that UPMC fitness center that's going up.

Well when Wal-mart entered the Canadian market and here in Winnipeg I was so happy. I later came to realize however that it was a death sentence for the likes of Zellers and Woolco. Now all we have is the overpriced The Bay and Wally Mart junk. I guess we asked for it when we all flocked to Wal-mart!

As a fellow Canadian consumer, I loved Zellers and went all the time before they closed, same with Kmart, but not to the same extent where I was still a teenager when they closed. I’m not a Walmart fan, and don’t buy anything there I can get somewhere else. I wish Target had made a better go of it so at least they would have some competition.

I agree with you both. Sometimes I have no choice but have to go to Wal-Mart because of my budget. It makes me feel bad but sometimes I just have to. I don't understand why Target left. Yes the French and English thing was big. Funny how only French is required in Quebec! I also think that by the time Target entered Canada many people had become loyalist to Wal-Mart as Wal-Mart was the only place left to shop as they did the mom and pop stores out of business. People thought, em you've come to take over Wal-Mart we'll show you. It is also true that the shelves were always so bear.

Debbie McLeod there was a very extensive article in maybe McLeans a while back about all the reasons for Target failing. Apparently instead of sticking with the inventory system used in the states, they decided to use the one used by Loblaws. It auto orders product, and some of the IT people were shutting the feature off causing huge amounts of stock in the warehouses that wasn’t being shipped out to the stores, causing a bottleneck effect. Also when they were setting up for planograms and such, items weren’t correctly entered by the data entry people which means they didn’t fit on the shelves. It was all these little things that added up to a big cluster. By the time they started realizing all these things they were already too far in the hole to make it worth trying to correct it where they had already lost billions in the process.

Best case scenario Sears holdings files for chapter 11 bankruptcy and they get brought out by a big profitable retailer like Korger and TJX. They can use there store conecpt and low price tactics to make them a respectable brand. They would be much smaller and only on the east coast but at this point it's the only possible why Sears and Kmart can survive. They have too much debt and an incompetent CEO Eidde Lampart and there's no way they can survive without being brought out.
