Kmart Closing In Shaler Township, PA Update #2

I found a Kmart relatively close to me a few weeks ago, and my parents wanted to go to it for Black Friday. On the way there they talked about the old Sears catalogs and how great they were. Walking out they were remarking how that was probably the last time they will ever visit a Kmart. They have been shopping there since at least the 80s and it was kind of a sad moment for them.

It's sad to see a KMart around for 55 years going to close January 13. I get sad seeing these stores wind down. Your commentary and humor lift my spirits especially the restroom and Fitting room funny poses. Wonder if the store was even more busier earlier in the day. Nice to hear those holiday KMart commercial spots. I will be playing KMRT when decking out my three this week. LIke Sears Holdings I'm downsizing to a Charlie Brown Christmas tree. Davin Peterson, I don't think that ANYONE, Eddie being a Vulture (hedge fund manager) himself, is ready to save SHLD as a whole. What will happen is that the piecemeal sale that has happened in the last few years will continue under the Illinois Bankruptcy Court supervision. Target and other chains (depending on their location) will buy some stores at 10-25% of, say, its' 2015 value, especially the ones that have been holding the fort for SHLD recently (PR, VI, GU and HI).

@@davinp it's likely to be Fast Eddie, he's the stalking horse bidder, which means he opens the bidding, so if no one else bids (very likely), he officially owns them outright to do whatever he wants (likely their real estate is what he wants for the value the land brings).

That store looks about like ours. It's like a timewarp. Everything seems to be stuck in the mid 90's. They never spent a dime to upgrade or update our store, and its grungy and filthy inside. Water stains on the ceiling, dull dirty floor, and zombies running the place that give no shits about anything.

Seven Hills ohio Kmart and most whatever is left of these stores were that way, never updated stuck in the 70s, 80s and 90s.

Sounds like the way the Kmart in Bridgeview, Illinois is. I went there a couple of months back and bought some trousers. It was surprisingly crowded, considering the fact there were two Walmarts in the area.

SHLD hasn't gone to Chapter 7 yet 'cause both Sears and Kmart had policies of owning many of their stores, rather than leasing from the malls' owners as is the case everywhere else. Eddie has been able for years of selling those stores for "petty cash", but it's getting to a point (in the next few months) that he's not able to do it anymore. Everyone involved KNEW this for years.

I watched this video and afterwards I went upstairs in my attic and started gathering my Christmas decor. I have gift boxes still in Saran Wrap from Kmart with the tags on them that say Kmart and a “The Bon Ton” one with a receipt from 1996. Crazy how these stores aren’t stone anymore. My Kmart here is closing till last day of this year. Before it's closing, I got myself some waffle pants for the memory of the last Kmart at my state in Missouri. It also looked cool for me as well lol. I'm gonna wear them for the holidays and I really want to find a Kmart shirt. Gonna be hard to find one though. It sucks a lot that they're closing forever. Very sad. I just wish to be in it for longer time. One Kmart that already closed for a couple of years and still abandoned is closer to my house I'm living in now. I've been there and still haven't said goodbye to it because it's never goodbye, it's another new beginning. We give our hearts and remembrance to the places that are shutting down or closed now and we must find other best ways to gain more memories together.

I have to say I agree on Black Friday being bad and not worth it but I did buy a Vizio 60-inch smart TV 8 years ago on Black Friday and it still works to this day perfectly fine

11:33 shows at one point what made Kmart so great. You had carpet and tile floors to go along with drop ceilings, and an outside awning (hard to see in the shot since it's night, but trust me). They could have sidewalk sales, even in the rain, you come in, greeted by carpet, then tile for the rest of the store, and drop ceilings give it more of that welcoming feeling. The warehouse look of you-know-who-mart, is bland, and even though Target does the same as Kmart with its carpet, tile and drop ceilings, they don't have awnings, thus no sidewalk sales, even in the rain. You've got to get out in the heat, with the sun beating down on you, rain hitting you to look at merchandise, unlike Kmart where you're protected by that awning!

I went to my childhood Kmart (Oakdale, CA) today and surprisingly the store had a great amount of customers, they even had Santa clause for the kids! As for the one in Ceres,CA it’s a disaster as well as the Sears at the Vintage faire mall in Modesto, CA.

Great video. My Kmart closes today in Milford Connecticut (11-25-18) . It was packed. Lines like you couldn't believe with people buying mostly clothes at 90% off. I like how you show the merchandize - people will want to see what Kmart had 20 years from now. Keep showing that Christmas stuff! My Kmart had some Christmas Stuff- but they didn't have what yours has - and they didn't put up the trees. I love how you show it. Kmart has some of the best stuff. Even though my local Kmart closes today, I'm still going to shop at Kmart online. Great prices and quick delivery. They need our money to survive. I might have to take a day trip to shop in a Kmart- but maybe with better management, the company might re-invent itself and revive the brand. Keep up the great work- I look forward to your videos! What a depressing Kmart store.. My near by Kmart closed last weekend.. My mom loved shopping there for her needs but the last time we went was in August of this year. When I walked in there.. I felt like I was in the 80s-90s all over again.. such a sad and depressing store.. no one around to be seen, registers were empty and when trying to checkout, their checkout machines were SO SLOW!! But get this, I found a SPYDER brand jacket in that store which had me boggled.. I asked myself "since when does Kmart carry Spyder brand??" Literally sitting in the midst of a bunch of "50% off for light jackets".. I grabbed it, no Kmart ticket to be found on the jacket, took it to the register which was OBVIOUS that Kmart did not have it registered as it being part of there collection clothings.. Cashier had to call manager and figure out where the heck did that jacket come from. In the end, walked out with a SPYDER brand new jacket for $10 (normally run for $90 and above at Dicks Sporting's).. 😂.. hey it will be the last thing I'll remember when shopping at my local ancient history Kmart... Makes me so sad, in the area where I live, 2 KMarts closed, one remaining, but 3 Walmart’s are thriving! I think KMart would have stood a chance had they expanded to a full grocery line in their stores, more or less a one stop shop, if they had, I would never go to Walmart again! They had a few locations like this, I remember one back in the 90s in Pearland, TX that was directly across the street from a Super Walmart. Both of them were huge even considering today's superstore standards.

There's a problem with that: foodstuff profits are razor thin. So much that an average grocery store chain is successful if they get 1.5% of net profit, much less than a discount department store chain. That's why Walmart has a lot of items that are NOT foodstuff.

Quite honestly, people give Eddie Lampert such a hard time for destroying Kmart and I quite agree with them. But how many people stop to think, does he even give a crap about the stores he's chopping off the face of the Earth? Just feels like, "Well, this store is gonna close, and so is this one, this one, and this one." Some of these Kmarts have been open almost longer or as long as he's been alive. A lot of heart and soul went into these Kmarts and he just closes them down like they're nothing. Sure, sometimes you have to close a few stores, but his whole restructuring plan isn't working and all he's doing is whittling down the remaining stores until they're all gone. To think of how many people prided themselves opening and working at these stores over the years. So hopefully that'll give people another but deeper reason to hate that little SOB.

Jody Smith I know of at least one case from Wallie that a Kmart closed not because it was “underperforming”, but the lease was up, and the store (or city, or whoever) didn’t want to renew it. So our friend “Fast Eddie” what he does-close the store and then sell it for the real estate money.
