Fantastic build. This gave me the idea of possibly slotting the screens in so someone could just slide them in/out as needed, also maybe a switch to change to a different bank of leds with a different color. Change it to red if someone fails a hacking skill check. So many jumping points from this, thanks!
@KnarbMakes3 жыл бұрын
OOoooh that would be so cool. There are LEDs that are multi-color I believe. Or you could find a way to embed one of those LED strips that changes colors. Let me know how it goes!

Knarb! Top notch, mate. This is an awesome little project. Thank you for the inspiration! I've been building with foam and chipboard, but now I see I need to explore my stash of styrene sheets that I've stockpiled. This computer terminal is really cool. I think I'm going to have to try to build one of my own now. Cheers, --Bo

Happy to give the inspiration. My only gripe with it is it's a lot more expensive than foam and chipboard. I don't think I would build anything bigger than a few inches across with it! Unless I can source a cheaper supplier, that is.

If you're gonna be working with styrene, consider getting some kinda scribing tools. They're what we use for making panel lines in Gunpla. Instead of cutting out the individual keys, you could have carved them into the pla-plate.

Try out thin plastic cement, like "Tamiya Extra Thin" or "Mr.Cement S". Same as Revell Contacta, but consistency of water and you basically only brush it on seam and capilary action does the rest.

For the monitors, if you already used LEDs, why not make luminous screens? You print a color image, there are thousands of images on Google of sci fi monitors, then you laminate that image and stick it to the front of the monitor. The image will not show the LED that is inside, but when you turn them on you will have a bright screen.

Dude you could have used clear plastic for the screen then painted it black, then scratched away the black paint as the picture on the screen and the light would glow through.

Missed opportunity with the screens, you should have just had the transparent plastic and printed the star-charts on plastic as well making the whites transparent, then your screen would actually shine from the LEDs
@KnarbMakes3 жыл бұрын
For sure, in hindsight that would work better. I might go back and modify them to do just that.
@KnarbMakes3 жыл бұрын
Ok, I had to quickly try this, and I'm glad I did. I cut out the styrene behind the screens and re-glued the clear plastic inserts back in, it looks 100% better in low light conditions now. Take a look: imgur.com/a/d3AgqPU Fantastic suggestion Mårten
