I really enjoy the narration style on this channel. Professional and adult mindset, with no mindless fluff.

Just used Polyx Clear Satin finish on a guitar and three coats in and it look incredible. I found it so easy to apply compared to Tru Oil and without the excess having to be wiped off. Also doesn't tint your work piece. Massively impressed with how it levels out more than anything though.

It's been used here in the UK for years. The other popular choicec amongst us professional woodworkers is Morrells Ezeoil which gives a similar finish and from the USA, General Finishes Gloss topcoat which is an excellent water based pu topcoat. All just need two coats.

Should you dye the wood before using Osmos if you want the wood to have a translucent primary or secondary color in the finish? Or, how can we use Osmos with translucent dyes?

Sorry, I don't know the actual name of these pads, they only sell them in bulk which means there is no packaging, but if you go to ANY automotive store they will sell these pads, they are used for re-finishing paint jobs on cars. There are 3 or 4 different colors which indicates how coarse each pad is, the white ones are the finest, and that is what Phil recommends to use. Hope this helps, let me know if you need more info, will see if I can dig something up. Great to have you with us Colin

I’ll give this a try. I found it available from a few sources.

Oh .. yikes, I can't even guess at that. You should be able to get some idea from the can, they usually print a recommended coverage on the label, other than that, only suggestion, email the manufacture, they are always happy to help out. That's how I would approach this. Hope this helps, sorry I don't have an easy answer. Colin

I'm working on a test piece of pine. First very thin coat of Osmo hardened nicely. Second took over a week. Third is still gummy/sticky after two weeks. Help? Eventually for a pine kitchen countertop.

I am pretty sure that Phil mentioned that some turners were using this product, but I am not positive. I will check this in the next couple of days and leave a message about it on woodworkweb, at the bottom of the article. Great question ... thanks for taking the time ... Colin

You said you put the Osmo on before you cut out the parts. If you do that how does the glue stick to it when assembling?

Thanks for the video. Is the Norton product that mimics a 0000 steel wool the same as what you are using? The one I found doesn't say Bear Tex. It mentions being for use between coats, which makes me think it may be too abrasive. Thanks for the help.
@frankb.35567 жыл бұрын
Yes. Same pad. I use the white Norton ones with Osmo Polyx and they work great.
@andymcgarry863311 жыл бұрын
Use 3M Final Finishing Pads available at most hardware stores. They are the same as synthetic 0000 steel wool if your area doesn't carry 3M (I believe Norton makes these as well). Be sure to get 0000 and not 000 - the extra 0 makes a big difference.

Great video! Just wondered if anyone knew the difference between osmo 3111 and 3186. I believe one is translucent and the other is intensive. But how would it affect oak? I want a white finish like you would get with liming wax so I am not sure which one to use!
@annafreeman18589 жыл бұрын
Hello, I have a little question. Can Shellac be used as an undercoat with Osmo? Thank you, Anna
@bitTorrenter3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't think so. French Polishing is a different technique where you apply several coats of shellac and gradually build it up. Osmo is a Hard Wax Oil where the oil penetrates the wood grain and the wax dries on the surface, providing a somewhat durable coating.

I wonder how it would work on bowls and turned objects since I am a tuner. I wonder if any one out there has ever tried it on turned bowls and such. BTW, I'd like to try it with a small sampler size can on turned objects.

Only sand upto 120 grit for absorption. Osmo is fantastic. Metholated spirit to degrease. Apply thin. Professional use only

WoodWorkWeb What's the % of Osmo you using on your projects? I saw few of your video on Osmo and found a dealer near me so I picked up a can. Excited to try it out on my maple slab. I saw the the finished work on the some of the floor pieces...I like the Satin look.

mycl500 I love Osmo and was using it on probably 80% of my builds, but then my distributor could not get it anymore so I have switched to a nearly identical product called Saicos. I think you will be very happy with Osmo, just make sure you put very light coats on and you will get awesome results.
