Here are some of the guard variations for knee strike:
Tight guard: Protects the upper body from punches and your punches are ready to be thrown, but your knee won't be as strong.
Full Hand Swing: Swinging your hand all the way down shows full body commitment making the knee very strong.
Hand Swing (Halfway): This is the most balanced knee strike variation and should be used most of the the time. Your knees will be strong and hands will be ready to defend. This is when you swing the hand half way down.
Long guard: Long guard extends the lead hand out to measure the distance, and to control the distance giving your knee a chance to land, and defend against the head.
Grab (clinch) knee: You can grab their head or guard to control the arms and body, and then knee successfully. Step in and control the body and pull them into the knee, but the risk is that you have to step into the danger (close) zone.
