Great suggestions! I’m 4 months out from surgery but still have to elevate. Still have thigh pain and numbness so I’ll add heat and massage and make sure I continue exercising those muscles for strength.

Fortunately for me...I did not have thigh pain...There was pain everywhere else but I am blessed not to have extensive thigh pain that I could remember... What I do remember...when my knee was swollen during therapy...my therapist would massage the knee and quad muscles which would twitch and fire ( fiber fire)...2 exercises that made my twitch go away was the leg extensions and leg curls during therapy... My quad twitches was apparently between 2 and 4 months post op.. By the 5th month...The twitching went away totally.

Thank you for sharing this helpful tip... often some simple exercises with muscle contraction and movement of the knee can help with pain relief.

I'm sorry to hear about your thigh pain! It might be helpful to consult with a physical therapist or orthopedic specialist who can assess your specific situation. In the meantime, gentle stretching and strengthening exercises can sometimes provide relief. Make sure to listen to your body and take it easy if anything feels uncomfortable. Hope you feel better soon!

Just had TKR a week ago and the most pain I feel was from the results from tourniquet they used on my leg. I use a cold water therapy machine that has both cold and heat settings. I find out after my exercises I use the cold mode on my leg then switch over to heat mode. Yes massaging does wonder also. Thanks for this informative video.

That sounds like some good strategies to manage the pain and swelling early on after surgery. Best wishes in your continued recovery and rehab after surgery!

How soon after total knee replacement is it safe to add heat?
@KneeReplacementTherapists Жыл бұрын
I would say as a rule of thumb about 1-2 weeks after surgery it is ok to incorporate heat. You can still ice, too, as both heat and ice have different benefits. I like to utilize heat prior to range of motion or stretching exercises or if there is significant muscle soreness for example you have thigh pain that leads to difficulty falling or staying asleep.

My pain may be that memory pain you talked about. My pain seems to be from below the knee down the front left side of the bone to the ankle. I haven’t seen a specific video here in that area yet. Do you have one ?
@KneeReplacementTherapists2 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching... I'm not sure if I have a specific video for the pain you are describing, but here is a video about bone pain which may be what you are experiencing: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hWLXkp99jqprbs0 ...the pain you have may also be muscle or tendon pain as there are muscles that travel from your knee down to your ankle and foot.

Most of my pain is from my quad muscle. Now granted, I'm seven weeks out and they have me exercising my quad muscle a lot to be able to do stairs, sit and stands etc. But it seems to be sore all the time. Maybe that's just because I need to work those things back up to full strength.
@KneeReplacementTherapists10 ай бұрын
It is very normal to have a lot of soreness in the quad from exercising and also because the knee and surrounding area is healing from surgery... as you continue through the rehab process and build strength, this soreness will likely improve.

I have pain in the back of my thigh when I sit on a chair or in my car seat. What do I do about that? And it can travel down the side of my leg to my ankle.

Try this seated hamstring stretch: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qqvJkoF7r9mVedU It may also be a sciatic type pain stemming from your low back. Hopefully, you are still connected with a physical therapist who can do a personalized assessment to determine if low back issues / sciatica are contributing to your pain.

I’ve had total knee replacement 2 years ago and I am still in a lot of pain. I can’t sleep, I can’t enjoy life. The pain is 24/7 all the way to my private areas, my thigh hurts and throbs all the time. I also hear a lot of clicking in there and something makes noise like if loose in there. Is horrible. What can I do

I’m sorry to hear about your father’s discomfort. It’s concerning when there’s a sudden increase in pain and stiffness after a period of improvement. The pain and swelling at the back of the knee (in the patellar fossa) could be due to several factors such as scar tissue, inflammation, muscle strain, or a mechanical issue with the prosthetic. I recommend contacting your healthcare provider for individualized assessment and recommendations.

I’m really sorry to hear about the ongoing pain and discomfort you’re experiencing. Persistent pain, especially with clicking and a sensation of looseness, can be very distressing. It’s important to reach out to your orthopedic surgeon or a specialist to discuss these symptoms in detail. They might need to assess your knee with imaging or other tests to determine if there are issues with the implant or surrounding tissues. In the meantime, managing pain and improving sleep might require adjustments in your treatment plan or exploring additional therapies. Your healthcare team can provide the best guidance for your specific situation. I hope you find relief soon and get the support you need.

The pain seems to be going down to my ankle! Why?
@KneeReplacementTherapists6 ай бұрын
A couple reasons this can occur. It can be radiating pain from the low back that is traveling down the leg, or just from moving differently dealing with different stresses on different parts of the body and dealing with inflammation as your body heals can lead to radiating pain down into the calf, ankle, and / or foot. Oftentimes this relieves with time and some gentle stretching and exercise and as your knee continues to heal following surgery.

Ditch the loud, jangling electric guitar music intro... it's painful and unnecessary.
