Amazing run! A great example of how the new player idea of a deck “archetype” can be misleading, i.e. building a “poison deck” or “shiv deck.” All the cards interact well with each other and the relics to create a resilient and powerful deck that performs better than some sort of idealized archetypal set of cards

He typically has about 17 cards T the end of act one and about 35 cards at the end of the game. I got these numbers from watching his videos from last year, so that's not impacted by the current mastery challenge.

I think the mastery challenge makes that really hard to determine, because he’s purposefully taking cards he doesn’t need to progress it

I'd be interested in numbers too, although I'm not sure there's a huge difference between what Baalor advocates and what he does. Even before the mastery challenge he tended towards big decks - at least that's my feel. Jorbs had an interesting bit about deck sizes - there's a weird thing where having a big deck seems really bad to intermediate players, but at the highest level bigger is probably better more often than not. Making a small tight infinite looks cool and is satisfying, but this game tests your ability to beat certain challenges, and smaller decks have problems against some of the harder challenges, particularly late game (time eater, all of act 4, alongside others). So bigger decks with more options for dealing with challenges can do really well. Still, it's a subtle game, lots of things can make a difference.

This is me whenever I try to get a Silent discard deck going. I either get all the discard cards and none of the payoff, or all the payoff cards and none of the discarders

Btw man, even you doing that run talking about how to beat ascension 5 made me play the game more. I would always try and beat the game on the highest ascension level unlocked, but I wouldn't really learn and probably fell into the same traps. Now I play more consistently using level 5 as a base, and only go higher if I feel like it.

Silent is without a doubt my favorite character because it has several versatile build directions and its less prone to duds. Well that's my experience. Where some other characters are absolutely slaughtered if you get a bunch of crap rewards/crap shops/etc

@@j.w.- that's never the problem for me. The only problem I have with silent is trying to kill heart consistently and the dual fight before. Those can be iffy because watcher wants to constantly play cards and if you don't have enough block or dps you die

I'd say the time I got burst+ into dance+ dance+ is too many shivs. I had to add concentrate to my deck in order to dump hand enough.

Sounds like it's a challenge to beat the heart throughout 2023 with decks that contain at least two of a card in order to "master" the card, and the challenge is to "master" each card?

Odd mushroom only reduces the vulnerable penalty, not eliminates it

@@SuperGamerNinja1 yes but vuln increasing avocado's damage by 25% is not substantial if you are removing 6-8 damage every turn from the fungus. avocado would have to be doing 24 damage for the vuln to outweigh the fungus' own damage.
