Knife crime: New police stop and search powers to be trialled

Police in England and Wales will trial a way to make it easier for officers to search people who have previous convictions involving knives and other weapons.
A mother who lost her young daughter to knife crime told Sky News' Frazer Maude that it could save lives.
But Civil liberty groups say expanding such powers will cause more trauma for people who are unfairly targeted.

Security wand metal detector, handheld metal detector. They need a walk through airport style scanner. Stick it in the street, got nothing to hide, nothing to worry about.

This will make literally no difference, these people aren’t carrying knives for the fun of it. They are in gangs and know at any moment a rival could pull up and try to kill them. Does not matter how long the sentence is they will still carry a knife as prison for a year or two or 5 years is better than getting killed.

I appreciate what this girls mother is trying to do, but by just discriminating and giving police powers to just randomly stop people who previous been convicted of carrying a blade, will cause more problems not only for police officers, after lets say the 3rd stop in a day by a different police officer/s the person being searched is going to be aggravated so will lash out and police officer get hurt, there are lots of other reasons but this is one really need looking at.
