Just received my JIG, great workmanship and great attention to detail, a big thanks to Nick for all his help with my questions. He is real easy to deal with and everything went smoothly with getting it sent to me in Thailand.

Hi there,great jig. I make one that is very similar but different in a few areas. I have threaded holes on the rear to allow the fitting of screw in handles, to suit each user. The blade is clamped with a trio of very strong magnets. The base is adjustable from 90 degrees back to75 degrees. It has an adjusting screw and is used with a commercially available angle gauge. I do like the idea of the fixed angles, easier than the locking hinge to make!

I have watched many a video of knife making. Your video is excellent. As I have yet to begin my first knife project, your video Identified my suspicion. I need a jig. My father-in-law left me several knife blanks of different sizes. I am still purchasing tools. I am still just sharpening my own knives. I encourage you to pursue commercializing your tool. Thank you.

Great work on your Bevel grinding jig. I also use bevels on my knifes, but that is because I shake like a dog crapping razor blades. Anyhow, I am impressed with your craftsmanship. Keep up the good work Gene

Wow, this is an amazing idea. I like it, the whole idea with the angle steel at the bottom and being able to interchange the degree of the angle. I just started into making knives and I do free-hand grinding and it's very hard to keep everything even and keeping the grinds clean and nice looking.

Had similar idea for a jig but the local CNC shop was a little steep on the hourly rate. Looking forward to the next vid.

Nice video. Looking forward to what else you post. I am a fan of using jigs. To design and build your own jig takes a skill of its own.

I'm a machinist too, retired after 33 years in Tool & Die, and am getting into knife making. I've watched quite a few videos on making beveling jigs and your jig is, by far, the best design! I will be copying it, if you don't mind. Can you give me a couple dimensions? Length of jig, and dimensions on the legs of the angle?
@forge521008 жыл бұрын
Nice jig, I'm looking into building one for longer blades like swords and daggers as the larger blades are harder for me to free hand grind and I wind up doing a lot of filing. Most knife makers should be able to make a jig like that, but for the amount of work you put in to it it's a fair price.

Very nice jig. I work in the aviation business and aluminum touching stainless is a huge no-no for corrosion. The farther metals are on the periodic chart, the less compatible they are. Example: steel and copper don't mix, but brass and copper do. So don't leave your angled plates on when you're not using them.

@MrBtw9998 жыл бұрын
I would buy your jig and knife, it is the first video I have seen to bundle them together....I can make a jig like this at my workplace also, but you have already done the design and legwork....I am having a friend cut a knife design with his plasma cutter, still waiting for him to deliver it, 2 weeks later....making your own tools/knives will come in very handy when the apocalypse hits and skills are worth more than money....

very nice jig. the price is correct too. time tooling etc etc that cost money to make.

Jeez dude, that's a beautiful piece of work. The best part - that angled plate. That takes all the wobble out as compared to other jigs that use a single bolt as an adjustment. You machine guys kill me - I'm a carpenter and our idea of tolerances would make you cringe. We think 1/16" is close enough.

@bobbydonello59696 жыл бұрын
great video...i had already made the jig out of angle iron with the roll pins, not as smooth as yours out of alum of course, and the 4 -10 degree plate is great idea ! ...BUT... how about if i have a (tool rest plate) that i can TILT 4-10 degrees ? either way ! then i can use just the aluminum angle ? yes...-no ?
@jacobsacres60386 жыл бұрын
If your work rest tilts, then all you need is a 90 plate!

Thank you for this video. Could you tell me what your angles are for that primary bevel? I need a jig, and I need to know what angles to use...
@jacobsacres60389 жыл бұрын
+Brian Ehst In this video there is a 4 degree angle plate being used. The angle used is determined by the thickness of material, the desired bevel width, and edge thickness. I usually leave .02" on the edge for heat treat. Primarily I will use a 3-5 degree with decimals included (3.25,3.5,4.5 degrees, ect..) I hope that helps. I am going to make a few jigs in the future that will be for sale. I will be advertising those on my facebook page. There is a link in the description!
