Ay! You got the Mr volcano! I like em alot. I was using coal(anthracite)for three years and now I only use it when I have too. Spend about the same amount too, well until the price goes up again... I remember when I started it was 4.99 a bag of coal, now it's 9.49. And the propane exchange used to be 14.99, now it's 19.99 at menards(where I'm at). Crazy shit. But nice work man!

Is that the right way to heat treat it? It’s not steel so a water quench seems like it might not harden it?

Awesome man!!!! You do such great work! I’m a blade smith as well and I love making swords, knives axes etc…. I never made a titanium knife but I wonder if you anneal it or if that’s even possible for titanium. I am however gonna order me some and Ima make an edc dagger for my personal use. Some say that titanium isn’t that good for knives because of sharpening issues but hey if you did it then ima do it! Keep up the good work my friend, you sure are awesome at what you do!
@erikcourtney183410 ай бұрын
Annealing titanium works sorta the same way steel does, Except in a vacuum. Quenching didn’t do anything to it honestly. The issue with titanium knifes it’s due to sharpening, it’s because it’s not hard enough to hold an edge. Actually quite soft compared to hardened steel.

Why titanium. It wont hold an edge. Also ive had stainless takes colors like that from a torch i dont think titanium would be malleable like steel

I’ve never forged titanium or worked with it all and wanted to give it a try and see how it went. Definitely has its applications, but not for a chopper of any kind!

Interesting. Looks to be water quenched and what about tempering? Does it need it or no?
@defenestrator309010 ай бұрын
Titanium is a non fero metal, it can not be hardened by quenching. For that you need steel with carbon in it. I'm afraid a titanium knive wil not stay sharp very long.
@coopachew11 ай бұрын
Hey bud why did you quench with the blade side ways ? That can cause warping and even potential stress lines that could crack you should dunk it tip first in a downward thrust oscillating it in the quench tank, also did you temper it? I’ve never worked titanium maybe you don’t need to temper it I dunno great vid though!

@micktheweld I agree and titanium doesn't hold an edge well at all. In theory , in a perfect setting, it would make for excellent blade material but that just isn't the case. It makes for excellent knife scales but blades, not so much.

People today don't understand what forge a knife means. You flatten out a thick piece of bar then cut the shape of the knife out with a bandsaw and used a grinder to shape it the rest of the way then sharpened it. You forged a piece of bar stock to a flatter piece of bar stock then you made a knife with other tools. To me that's not forging a knife. Forging a knife to me is working a piece of stock with a hammer and completely forming it into the shape of a knife with a hammer then sharpening it. No cutting the shape out with a bandsaw and/or giving it it's final shape with a grinder. That's not forging, its saw cutting and grinding. To me it says you don't have the skills to finish forming a blade with a hammer. You have great grinder shaping skills but that's not forging now is it? 🤷♂️
