My first more traditional Khukuri build. I've become weirdly obsessed with the Khukuri knife. When you watch videos on KZbin of how these are made in Nepal with very basic tools and machinery, you really get the feeling that this is a knife that has totally integrated itself into the lives of the people of Nepal. The quality of the craftsmanship in such simple workshops is truly astonishing.
Of all the knifes I've made, this one that I wanna be able to master!
Thanks for watching!

you taught me two lessons during this video without saying a word: i’ve learned that the anvil horn can be used for smaller dents and to curve the metal and that, as everyone says, its okay to make mistakes. just make a smaller knife. also wut editor do u use? 😂

Great video! I was so happy to finally find footage of someone making a kukri bolster from brass sheet that didnt look like it was filmed with a camera taped to a dog's head! I'm getting ready to try my hand at making a kukri bolster myself. Just picked up some 20ga brass. I have some silver solder and also some little railroad tie anvils at home. Ive been scouring youtube for videos showing the process, and even though you are admittedly a novice at this aspect, your video is the best ive found yet! It doesnt look like you've answered comments here in years, but if you see this and you have any tips for me, Id much appreciate it! Thanks

wow amazing, there are many types of khukuri in Nepal. Sirupate is one of kind. it has to be thin and long like sirupate...siru means slender and pate means leaf sirupate means slender leave found in hilly regions of NEPAL...so it has to be long and thin excatly the one you made...lot of people try to make khukuri "खुकुरी" but unable to match that we have in our country. this is so perfect with every details...thank you for making खुकुरी and this video...

I accidentally hit this channel. I made my first big trappers knife made from spring of big truck in 1985. Then I made a few knives from material of the file. Now, for over 30 years I do not do it, but I have a degree in metalworking and I will tell you that you know what are you doing and you are a very talented man It's really great work.

frankly telling, blade shape is awesome! bolster was as per traditional methods made nicely. Tang punching and Topi also good. but shape of end part of handle should be more wider and exactly oval shaped funnel. that gives high power momentum while you try to cut long distance or highted branches or say beheading of charging enemy soldiers. that shape gives more comfortable yet strongly firm grip with first 3 fingers ( thumb, pointer and middle fingers)....

great video. just thought id mention a tip for leveling off your sharpening stone., you can level it off by grinding it against the back side of a ceramic tile. use a pencil to mark the stone and grind it down until the pencil marks are gone. Makes a big difference when sharpening.

I've handled an authentic Nepalese kukri and theres no other knife that gives me so much authority. You hold it knowing somethings going to need a tourniquet or Priest in one swing. I believe the one I handled was made from a Range Rover leaf spring. Soft spine and probably 56-58 hrc at the edge.

That kukri came out excellent. No, it's not perfect. It is however consistent in the fit and finish all the way through so it still looks high quality and very eye pleasing. I'd be proud as hell of that. A kukri is probably at the top of my MUST MAKE list now that I can hand forge damascus billets.

I guess nobody will say it from what I quick read but if you only quench one side on a straight piece of "heated to non magnetic" steel, the only possible result is "banana blade". Who would've thought the results would be different? Not to pile on, it's beautiful in the end, but that's 101 stuff. All that said, I hope if I try the same mine looks as good. You got mad skills my friend.

I have to imagine the banana blade is from primarily and initially quenching on one side while it's flat... Isn't that sort of quench usually done with the edge up, or at least facing down at an angle while flipping it back and forth constantly while adding more water at particular places to adjust the bend and heat treat of specific sections? Also I've seen them using boiling or otherwise preheated water for a gentler quench
