In this video we have shown the right way of making a knife from a file. We used a spectrometer to determine the steel type (combined with a knowledge of what types of steel old files were made of) to be able to heat treat it properly.
Special shoutout to Sietter for bringing the knowledge about hamon on files:

Tool steel is always a good choice for a knife. If hardened well, a knife for life. There for ... as I can see you like challenges, you often ask what kind of knife to make, what materials and so on. So, Let me to give you a challenge: hunting knife like this one using the old file and shainsaw bar for san mai or damascus or both :-) , basicly scrap materials . What do you think?

Beautiful knife, but above all the video editing is a LOT better! Wow, the cinematic shots that were all edited to the beat of the music was on point man! There were so many Cool shots that added movement rather than a whole video of locked off shots. Really top notch video, keep up the good work man!

You make beautiful work. Excellent craftsmanship and attention to detail. It makes me happy to see others putting in that effort. I’m 16yo from Colorado, USA and I’ve been making knives since I was 12. I started out with a filing jig and now I have a 2x72 and a heat treatment oven which I made by myself off of commissions from the knives. But seriously man you do the craft well and I appreciate the work. Have a good night.

Love the work. From old to new, great stuff man. Have made a decent kitchen knife out if an old flat fininishing file for my late mom. Her regular knife broke by some twist of fate right on the handle. Short tang shoved into the wood and then pinned down with some sort of crappy rivets. The tang itself broke and was unable to repair. So scrapped it and made a new one. That knife now STILL hangs in my kitchen and is in use daily.
