Took my Benchmade Anonimus camping a month ago or so, beat the ever lovin' snot out of it batoning some nasty wood. Held up flawlessly, didn't lose an edge at all. Turned around and diced veggies for dinner with it afterwards. I was very impressed how well it held up to everything I threw at it.

Before a watch, Benchmade has butterfly taxed us silly. At the same time,.ZT has given up on it's core costumers of big beefy overbuilt knives. The new fixed blade in the video is cool. Sadly the days of the 0452cf and bigger seem to be gone.

DCA, I want to build a kitchen knife set generally following the guidelines you presented in your kitchen knives video. I’ve settled on the viper Sakura line as my building block. I plan to buy the “santoku” for my main knife, the paring knife, and the set of steak knives in zircote wood handles. However, the Sakura line does not have some of the other knife styles (bread, boning, slicing, utility). So, my question is twofold: do you think the viper Sakura carving knife is a good replacement for either the boning or the utility knife role? And which knives from any other brands would you recommend to fit the bread, slicing, and boning knife roles that match the style of the classy zircote wood of the vipers?

Cold Steel makes a lot of diff items. Hatchets, axes, swords, folding knives low and high end. even baseball bats and shields. Civivi makes quiet a bit of assortment as well; if you include WE, they have med and high end. they have tools like the mini pry bar, bit driver and carabiner, pen, tweezers. some fixed blades. liner locks, frame locks and button locks.
@ssunfish Жыл бұрын
By mentioning Cold Steel and Civvivi you ignore the fact that Boker has been around three times as long as both put together and the not small reputation of German made knives! Because of these, I think Boker is the first answer to the question and the next that you mentioned don't immediately come to mind, though you're not wrong!

Hey DCA and crew, love all the knife center videos! I am looking for a gentleman's knife with a "finger safe" lock. The only one I have found so far is the Benchmade 940 Osborne but that's a bit outside my budget. I love the style and what you get for the money with the crkt CEO but I'm not keen on liner locks. Budget is up to $100 and I prefer black coated blades but it's not a must have.

The question at the end that's asked what knife brand is the most versatile. As much as I like Bokers Solingen knives, the answer is obviously Spyderco. From high end integrals, knives that literally won't rust, slipjoints, fixed blades, all the way down to their budget Byrd line. They have most bases covered. More than almost any other company by a good margin and not to mention using more steel types than any other company to my knowledge

I would choose….neither for survival. ZT for “combat”. The BM seems a bit confused in its design unless it was designed for hunting or camp kitchens but it wasn’t. Per BM, the Anonimus (yes it’s spelled that way) was “Designed for all-purpose fieldcraft and survival…”.

Question Relatively new to edc knives. Fell down the rabbit hole. You, as someone in the hobby- do you think a Reeves, Quiet Carry, Chaves, or Giant Mouse is noticeable different enough compared to the newer $100-150 knives? I'm pretty new to knives. I ordered the Benchmade (Super) Freek because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews that so many knifetubers gave it. When it arrived, I was pretty disappointed. It was very tight, so I couldn't flick it open or closed. I bought a torx screw driver set from Home Depot to adjust it, but when I loosened the screws JUST ENOUGH so that I could flick it open, the damn blade had some play in it! It's not a horrific amount. I don't want to exaggerate it, but considering my Spydercos and my Cold Steels, have NONE, and that my Civivi has some, but LESS, this really bothers me. Especially considering the fact that those knives are less expensive. It's the only knife I own that I regret buying.
@Regolith86 Жыл бұрын
Every knife maker has some lemons, even with the expensive ones. I bought a BladeHQ exclusive Spyderco Shaman in M4 with Micarta scales that was horribly off center to the point where it was interfering with opening and closing the knife. After playing around with it I figured out it was being caused by the Micarta scales, as the issue went away when I put the G10 scales from my regular Shaman on it. After reassembling it I had to use some force to get the Micarta scales back on and somehow that made the centering less bad, so it at least wasn't scraping anymore. I have two Benchmades, a Bugout and a 940 in M4. The Bugout was also off center, though not enough to cause any issues, while the 940 was perfectly centered and only took some minor adjustment to the pivot to get the action to work smoothly. Just depends on whether or not you get a "Tuesday" knife or a "Friday" knife I guess.

You can make the most basic design as art like Jakebcreates and LT Wright or you can make an intricate mess. They all sell and it's hard to say what your style should be. Make your style quality plus R&D. Draw it out, get an opinion or two. Forge one and have various size friends carry it for a day or a week. Get feedback. If it's a small fixie, taco sheath only. Pancake on a small edc feels goofy. I'm currently digging my TJ Schwarz Outlander and wanting a TPK Raptor but also love classic designs.

Here's a question for a future FAQ: What EDC folders have the highest ratio of sharpened blade edge to handle length? The aim here being to get the most useable edge into the smallest handle. A couple of caveats: no automatics, and no dagger-style blades where both edges of the blade are sharpened. For comparison sake, take the Spyderco Smock vs the Benchmade Bugout. The Smock offers 2.93" of sharpened edge in a handle length of 4.5" for an edge to handle ratio of about 0.65, whereas the Bugout offers 3.24" of sharpened edge in a 4.22" handle, for a ratio of almost 0.77. Are there non-auto, non-dagger folding knives with a better edge to handle ratio out there?

Dear Knife lovelies; I enjoy your content immensely, what is not to love about shoals upon shoals of blades glittering across a table top? Well there is the cost thing.... My question popped up while re-watching some old content. Every now and again you review a blade which has an 8Cr 13 MoV blade, and in some cases a look flutters across your be-bristled chin which reminds me of an eager diner reacting to a chef whipping off a silver cloche to reveal a turd below. Yet for some of us premium steels are out of our price range, and so 440 and 8Cr ranges are what we have to work with. Here then is my question. What would you select for a camping trip selection selecting only 440 or 8Cr series blades? I'm imagining a 3 blade selection notionally a knife to fill a 12 inch Machete type slot, a ubiquitous task folder, and something in the middle option..... (yes the answer for that last one is always MORA but I do hope you branch out away from the obvious there) Thanks very much in advance, drink beer be happy S

There’s the Ray Mears style, puuko’s, Kepharts, Lueka’s, Mora’s and those short rounded knives DCA loves and I can’t remember the name (apologies in advance for the spelling) scandi grinds, flat grinds, convex grinds, wood/micarta/G10 handles. What are the uses for these different knife styles? I’m looking for something that will patina with time and would prefer micarta as it will age with use but I live in a damp climate. Hi guys! What's your opinion of the recently announced Leatherman Garage Batch #005? Worth it? Or should we wait for the Arc?

Back when they first came out I thought they were just the bee's knee's ! With the materials that they chose to use, to the designs that they picked the 0300,0350 and my personal favorite is the 0560 which is a Collab with Rick hinderer and has a few designs elements from the hinderer XM-18!

ZT 0006 is one of the best made-in-USA production fixed blades in recent years.

Hi DCA, I’m searching for a knife for my brother in law, he’s a drummer in a death metal band, likes black and natural materials and preferably probably sculls on the blade 😅. Sculls are optional for my choice for him but maybe some nice engravings in the blade or handle/sheath. It should be a fixed blade so he can whip it out at camp to impress the ladies and children with his firemaking skills. Price around 100 dollars. Hope you can help a knife fellow out.

Have you thought about covering TKell or Compliance Edge? two of my absolute favorite knife designers.....

The ZT 0006 has the single worst kydex sheath I have ever had. Abysmally bad, huge amount of rattle & turning the sheath upside down makes the knives slip out.....no retention at all. Benchmade sheath is a bit ugly & average but at least it's 100% functional. The ZT knife itself is amazing though.

DCA, I'm hoping to find USA made folders and fixed blades with premium steel, and antler or bone handle/scales. Prefer magnacut, sheepsfoot/Barlow.

CLPM60; Hello David, I really enjoy and respect your the opinions you present on your videos. I was wondering if you could do an episode on FAQ’s and explain in layman’s terms the different blade angles. I’ve dabbled for years with knives and the different angles or grinds confuse me at times. Thank You DCA!
