I think sensing the 'hand' of others in an inanimate object is simply more pleasing to me. And it's not just the 'wabi-sabi' in its construction. But also, the lack of subliminal jarring, caused when a shape, a curve, a mark, created in software, is outside the limits an arm and hand produces. Evolution, I think, means I don't 'recognise' it. It doesn't 'speak' to me. It becomes simply, an object. Dare I say it feels dead? I have all sorts of cutters. They all have their use. But that's my five pennies worth.

Very very interesting point, Ian. It simply becomes an object. I like it. Thanks for sharing!! 😎

Many many years ago I started out with modern knives and then as I got deeper into the hobby I discovered traditional knives…… and that was basically it for me…… I went down that rabbit hole and never looked back….. I think being a traditional knife guy it has to be in your blood a lot of people don’t like them and never will it has to be in you the passion has to be there!!!! Thanks for your video stay well out there 😊

My first real knife was an Imperial Ireland barlow with sawcut delrin covers; then over the years I moved to more modern material lock backs, and eventually to Benchmade axis lock (even that was more than 20 years ago) and other more high end modern folders. During all that time, I never stopped buying and carrying traditional knives, so it was never a replacement strategy, but rather an additive one. To this day, I still carry several knives of different styles every day, and I appreciate all of them.

Excellent video. 100% with you on the answer being both. Lately traditional knives are bringing me more joy but I still carry a modern everyday, I just try to carry both now.

Thanks!! 😎 I’m pretty similar. Some days I won’t have a modern on me but it’s pretty rare. Thanks for watching 👊🏻

I feel the same way as you described about the traditional knives.Thats what I started carrying when I was a kid not that I can't appreciate a good modern flipper. But to me the Old patterns are like little time machines I can associate so many memories with certain slipjoints when I pick one up and use it or just look at it. I remember what I carried at different times through my 63 years on this old rock the good times and the bad. Old friends long gone it's like you said it's like going home very well put.

I love the beauty and variety of natural materials in traditionals. Just the appearance and hand feel of the traditional pocket knife evokes a feeling things being right in my world. On the other hand. when I expect to be out6doors and have a mid-size modern with a high end steel. I feel more prepared for any cutting task I encounter. It is definiely, both for me with a slight tilt to moderns for pocket time.

What a great video! I like to Carry both. Its nice to open a knife with one hand fast sometimes! But other times i will grab the traditional when i have both hands available just because they are so cool! I have been liking the traditionals much more in my journey. I dont dress deer ... Probably why I dont have to many fixed blades. This reminds me of wood sailboats vs. Modern fiberglass powerboats. The powerboat is more practical (gas guzzler) but I'd take a wood sailboat anyday! Natural materials (Bone, Wood) just feel so right! Because they were once a living creatures. And i believe when wood is not rotting it is still alive. Even though it is not growing. Almost has a spirit of its own. And thats one reason wood boats (and knives) just feel so right!

I literally agree with everything you just said haha. Thanks Andrew! I like the power boat vs sailboat example. Spot on. Also - I think I may have received a package!!! More to come soon brother 😎

I definitely gravitate towards traditional knives. Enjoy the whole experience that comes with them. Kind of pocket art with a purpose. Also the individuality you get from natural materials and how carry, use and time affect their appearance. However I also regularly use and carry modern knives and enjoy them The practicality, ease of use and performance they offer is great. And there are some great options out there. I guess, compared to traditional’s, modern knives can feel, to me, a little soulless. Great discussion, with no right or wrong answer. Thanks for taking the time to share this buddy 😎👍🏻

36% multi tool, 34% modern, 30% traditional. Multitools spark my imagination. Modern can be creative in a different line than tradtional. Traditional is really about boiling it down and enjoying the simplicity.

Nice!! I like your perspective. Moderns really can be creative in a different way than traditionals. And I didn’t mention multi tools now that I think of it, but they are awesome all the same. Thanks for watching 😎
