Very nice. I have this explained in a book, but this video is so much more understandable. Thank you!

I've done this finishing stitch on sweater armpits and loop scarves, but your tutorial is so helpful with the thought process you just need to repeat to yourself. Really simplifies the process!

Thank you, thank you, thank you! I know I'm late, but I just finished my hat tonight! I sat at my sister's kitchen table with my tablet and my knitting following along with you finishing it. It's not perfect -- it's my first hat as well as my first project that isn't flat -- but I think it's beautiful. I'm starting my sister's hat tomorrow so I'm sure I'll be back. There were 3 videos that made this happen and I wanted to thank all of you.

I've been using this stitch for years in finishing socks, but never realized how much easily it would be to keep the stitches loose and tighten them in the end. Great tip! Now I'll get busy on a hat (or two, or...)!

Destiny, thank you so much for this video. I've struggled with the Kitchener stitch in the past-- but no more. Looking forward to knitting lots and lots of these!

Thanks, I've made 3 hats so far, but one size 8 needles and it's taking forever, since I'm new to knitting using circular needles and this method to finish will make it so much easier. I 2 more hats to knit for the Denver March!

Thank you so much for this video, complete with specific instructions, and for the free pattern! (I'd never heard of the Kitchener stich.) I was unable to attend a march on January 21st because my mother was in the hospital. But it's not too late to make a great hat! I may need several....and I don't think my cats will like what I make them either. ;)

Wonderful directions, I watched this over and over. Then I wrote myself out a little mantra ... which I read while doing the closing, in case it might help anyone else. As much as it helps to see the video, since I've only done this ... well, twice now, ** I ** still need to have something written down that I can read while I'm doing the work. Close needle - put needle in from front left, take stitch off, put needle in from back right, leave on needle Far needle - put needle in from back right, take stitch off, put needle in from front left, leave on needle. Last two stitches - close needle, in from front left, pull off, far needle, slip in from back right, pull off,

I've never done Kitchener stitch before but you make it look easy. I did have one question for you - what did you do with the long tail still on the tapestry needle at the end? Did you weave in the end and then turn the hat inside out? Looking forward to making several extra pink cat hats this weekend!
@JeanGenie1008 жыл бұрын
Shaw Girl, yes! That's exactly what you do once you make sure the end is secured and won't come loose. Just weave it in on the back side.

Thanks for the great tutorial. I would like to make this hat. I have size 15 circular needles, but they are 30" (75 cm). Can I use those or should I purchase 16 inch ones? Thanks in advance for the info!

Ok help me out knitters, the kitchener stitch looks real flat....when you put it on finished it makes ears? Is this just by virtue of being pulled down over your head? Additionally, the pattern linked in this video says nothing about turning the hat inside out. Do I need to turn it inside out at some point? Thank you!
@KniftyKnittings6 жыл бұрын
Hi Kitiekatt! No, you do not need to turn the hat inside out to graft with Kitchener stitch. And yep, you just put on the hat and the ears will appear! If you'd like them to stand out a bit more, you could add a little stitch at the base of the ear. I hope that helps! -Destiny

what isn't explained is how to get working yarn to left side? mine is always on right as hat is knitted inside out. or is hat turned right side out to do this? can't find any info

Is there a reason your ears are stiffer than other ears on other tutorials of the same hat? Cuz I like yours so much better!

Ugh!!! I have an odd number of loops at the top! Any suggestions? I followed the Loopy Mango Big Loop Pussyhat. It said to cast on 16, but it didn't say to count the slipknot. :-(
@JeanGenie1008 жыл бұрын
Nemalde, you could knit 2 together so that you have an even number--or increase one st if you need to add.
@isabelle23948 жыл бұрын
I wish I had seen this before I started the hat, a 16" circular needle cannot be used as there is not enough cable to do this graft. The instruction should have indicated to use a 26" needle. I ended up having to use DP needles to finish the hat.
@brooklynbaby768 жыл бұрын
Isabelle 239 do you mind explaining how you used the double pointed needles to finish the hat? I followed the pattern to the letter and then watched this video. So I'm in the same boat - I can't finish the hat this way because I used a 16" like the pattern said.
@isabelle23948 жыл бұрын
Shaw Girl, I just slipped 22 stitches onto 2 DP needles (I think they were a size six, but it makes no difference since you are grafting, it won't affect the finished look) making sure they would face the same as if they were on a circular needle, working the circular needle off as I went along, and then just started the graft. By the way her instructions to start are a little off, the first two stitches should NOT come off the needle as she indicates. It should be "pull the darning needle through as if to knit, leave the stitch ON, then the back row, pull the darning needle through as if to purl, leave the stitch ON," then continue as she instructs. Hope that helped.

Isabelle 239 It does! Thanks so much!

I suggest buying an additional 29" (or 36") circular needle, transferring your 44 sts to the longer needle. Lots easier than using dp needles (for me, anyway! I never have gotten the hang of dp needles).
