In this and the next video, I offer a set of exercises aimed at developing your ability to thrive in Knight vs. Pawn endgames [i.e. one side has a knight and/or pawn(s), the other side has only pawn(s)] with an eye toward deepening your understanding of the key concepts outlined in the introductory knight vs. pawns video (link below). We thoroughly examine eight highly instructive and entertaining real-life positions, each of which requires precise calculation and is aimed at improving your ability to apply and mesh the concepts that undergird these highly unbalanced and tactical endgames. Note that in this video, we "take the side" of the pawns, whereas in the next, you will be solving from the side that has the knight.

I dont think this kind of content will generate mass views like speedruns because most people are so casual in all hobbies to the point where thinking about what they are doing or trying to improve is almost avoided. (A shame). But Danya, keep at this kind of content please. For those who value it, it is special to have such a high level player share such study and I think people will be watching these still in 200 years. Random addition. As a bloke from a working class background, youd look at your education, upbrining and maybe make assumptions. But your personality in your streams and youtube. Honestl, just a top, top guy.

I set up a physical analysis board and tried to solve positions and follow along. This has been Daniel's advice and it's worth following. Making moves on the board and understanding the positions increased the video's impact. It's the difference between passive learning active learning. I feel like this is as close as I will ever get to a private lesson with such a strong master. Thanks Daniel!!

Danya, thank you for yet another fantastic rendition in this series. I‘m glad you took the time off you needed only to return to the endgame series with another gem of knowledge. It‘s always an amazing feeling when we are able to solve one of these positions by applying pronciples you taught in the previous episodes. A feeling which imo only helps learning more. Thank you once again for the amazing and free instructional content

First of all: great content! Secondly: I ran the second position 21:35 through the engine, and after g6 ke6, we have that kd4 is winning, but kc3 is also winning! This move was far more intuitive to me, as we are not only getting to the knight, but we are also stopping blacks passed pawn on b5! essentially black has no more counterplay and loses on the spot, as he cannot help the b5 pawn with his king or knight, as they are stuck defending whites passed pawns!

Great idea! As a self-taught 2150 lichess rapid and classical controls player, who never had any serious chess school, I miss those engames skills and knowledge! Will look at every one of them! Please put all this engames video into a separate playlist so one can easily find them! Also, you can provide references to good book on each topic, if any exist. And, some rare engame winning algorithms are missing entirely on the internet, like queen vs rook - only basic positions (Philidor, line etc) with general explanation (probably Ayrton Twiggs' can count as one relatively good one but still not complete enough).

Thanks a lot for this lesson. One thing that would be very helpful: when showing positions, add 'White to play' or 'Black to play' next to the board. (Or even "White to play and draw', etc.) Most of the time you present a position and talk about it for a couple of minutes, but since I don't know yet who's move it is, it's very hard to assess the position.

Daniel, I hope that you don't read comments but just in case: your attention to detail and high standards have pushed you to the GM level in competitive formats. I am sure that instinct pushes you to try to create the most amazing content possible, and maybe you want equal or greater success in this field. Stay with your instincts! Prioritize your health. Take breaks. Go to Bali. Do whatever. You have already created some of the most amazing, and free, educational resources for this lovely game. You have already given so much, don't be afraid to take something for yourself.

at 20:50 1. g6 Ke6 2. Kc3 also wins (and is maybe cleaner). It allows Nd5+ Kd4 Nc7, but that position is still easily winning, but it avoids requiring this g7 g8 idea, which I had missed until you said that Kd4 was winning.
