There are lots of Judo throws that work very well no gi, for submission grappling, BJJ, MMA, even self-defense. There are also some that don't work that well outside of the gi. I picked a few of my favorites for this video, and ones that I think are useful. I hope you like this and that they help:
- Ouchi Gari
- Kouchi Gari
- O Goshi
- Koshi Garuma
- Ippon Seoinage
- Kata Garuma
- Uchi Mata
Hope these are helpful. Sorry I am so sweaty and red-faced in this video, but I filmed it right after rolling for a while.

Ippon Seoi, Harai Goshi, and Kata Guruma are my go to moves for no gi. Harai Goshi is particularly good. Smashing throw that lands you in side control.

I'd never go for Ippon Seoi Nage in mma fight. Lose the grip (way easier than in gi) and you lose your back. Ashi waza seems like a logical way to do it for majority of body locks situations.

@@BobSaint Karo Parisyan and Rick Hawn had a lot of success with that throw. But your point is still valid about the risk.

Thanks! I'm very new to grappling and I'm trying to understand basic principles. What I learned is that "hooks" act as a defense (or offense) on that side. This just clicked for me.

Awesome video! I think this type of upper body throws are the best type of takedowns for bjj rulesets where guard pulling from standing is prohibited, because you don't risk submissions as much as with the shots and you end up in good top positions. I'd definitely reccomend thise to bjj practitioners who want to invest in takedowns

I personally like head and arm throw (forgive my filthy wrestling terminology) but an important thing for any big throw is posting with the arm as you land with them unless you’re throwing them and not intending to land on top I also like a pinch headlock throw which uses the leg to hook onto the opponent’s and using that to throw kind of like Hari gochi (forgive my use of terminology I’m still learning what I can) but I’d like to ask if you’ve met a veteran and how they used they’re technics in a bjj or mma situation and how I could use bjj/mma in the military martial arts

Coach which throws/takedowns is your go to against wrestlers? Also is the leg trips superior compared to single/double leg against heavier stronger opponents?
@jestfullgremblim8002
@jestfullgremblim8002 2 жыл бұрын
I know the question wasn't directed to me but, against wrestlers, i always try Uchi Mata if i have a chance. Kata Guruma, Harai Goshi and the leg trips will work in the other scenarios. And about your second question: yes, i do find leg trips superior to single and double leg attacks. Why? *Because you can always use the leg trips as setups for other takedowns if you fail. *if your opponent (who is stronger and heavier) sprawls, you will be in a very, very bad position, and you know, sprawling is something that almost every grappler knows, while there isn't any defensive move against leg trips that will leave you in such bad position. *there is also the fact that if they don't manage to sprawl on time, they can still defend the takedown with strenght alone.

What’s your opinion on the wrestling version of kata guruma/fireman’s carry where you drop to both knees instead of collapsing to one hip? I’ve seen it taught both ways, but not sure which is more effective
@KnightJiuJitsu
@KnightJiuJitsu 2 жыл бұрын
The collapsing leg version is found in variations of both wrestling and judo, as is the double knee and even standing versions. I think both Judo and wrestling have several variations. I personally like the collapsing leg version, but that’s just personal preference. I think it depends on athletic attributes of the competitor.

For ko uchi gari, try working on when your partner is doing a forward step toward you, and forget about your leg. Like all other technics it's in hara (forget the common English translation, the closest translation would be center of the body)not in the legs not in the arms etc they just follow. It's something felt so not easy to explain. Here is a video that illustrate this quite well, or you could look at videos from Hirano, or Igor Correa kzbin.info/www/bejne/fIXFZpV6p9ugiqM
