I'm a big fan of advanced basics. I love that concept, because finding the original, basic fundamentals within every position, transition and submission is helpful to understanding how things fit together. So many techniques can get overwhelming without finding those connective elements.

This video takes the most basic sweep in jiu-jitsu and follows it to more complicated transitions, setups and submissions. To illustrate this concept, I show the basic hip bump sweep, ways it can fail or succeed, and some cool finishes you can find off it. I hope you enjoy.

This is awesome. Tried sweeping grandpa, after jumping guard, worked like a dream. He kept screaming trying to bend my fingers backwards, so I was forced to bite his ear. He let go immediately after the drip fell out his arm. I recieved a 1 month ban from his retirement village. Totally worth it. Thanks again . OSS!!!!!!

Great connection video. I e been looking for connections like this. So that I do t get the pause while sparring g trying to think of what’s next. I’ll have to watch this more and go back to that hip bump. I use pendulum sweep a lot.

Damn stupid good. Never thought about where they post their hand and always try forcing the triangle. That omoplata on the same side is absolutely gold. Wow man the details are ridiculous. I'm definitely trying this stuff at open mat Friday. Thanks Eli!

The puppet master! I've been exploring it and it works brilliantly. One unique technique I've seen from there is the riddler but I can't find a tutorial on it. Have you used it before and could you maybe do a tutorial on it if so?

I’m not sure with that technique by name, but I’ll see what I can find on it and if I’m already doing it without knowing the name

@@KnightJiuJitsu Yes I might have confused the technique with the video name. I'm not sure what it is called but here is a link to the video where I saw it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g2XclKRvhL6hodU

There are a lot of solo drills you can do to learn basic fundamental mechanics, but ultimately it will require a partner to truly train.
