The “knip slip.” Love it! 😂 I was already familiar with the brand and that they’re good to go, but I didn’t realize exactly how the mechanism worked. That’s brilliant! I’ll definitely be grabbing some of their pliers pretty soon.

The Cobra pliers are actually available up to 22" with a jaw capacity of I believe 4.5". The pliers wrench I believe goes up to 12" or 16". I've got the 5" of both types plus 10" of both types but opted for comfort grip on the 10" pliers wrench. I fully agree, they're incredible tools. I use mine more than I ever thought I would. Sometimes when I use them I can't help thinking it would've taken a LOT longer and would've taken more MacGyvering to make it work without them. They aren't cheap, but like anything worthwhile, that's to be expected.
@GearedTowardGear14 жыл бұрын
Very well said!! I didn’t realize they went up that large, I guess I never had an occasion to look, but the 7” and 10” see a lot of use in the garage and around the house.

@@GearedTowardGear1 thank you! And no doubt! The 22" Cobra pliers I suspect is almost exclusively for industrial/commercial plumber/pipefitter. The 5" ones though, I bought as a kit with both types and a nylon belt sheath. They get used so much that going somewhere without them seems like a terrible idea.

My grandfather wore a leather sheath everyday with a simple pair of wire pliers until the day he passed away. The pliers he had weren’t nearly as nice as those. He had a large black Case Cattlemen in a second leather sheath with the top that snapped closed (I have it still its main blade is half gone from all the years on the “whitt rock” as my pawpaw called all sharpening stones. I was a kid I decided I’d wear one on my belt and carried a few different usually Case, or Buck brand knives. This was back in the early 90’s before I ever recall seeing knives like we all see or carry ourselves everyday that are in the style of that Benchmade you were flossin at the beginning of the video. Back then it was all about having the most collectible usually multi blade but also the old Case Sodbuster, Barlow brand, or Kissing Crane that made a few I have still the Canoe and Black Angus (sodbuster shape) and my little brother had the black Angus Jr along with another buster style the Old Mule. All had good easily sharpened German steel with Kissing Crane being made by a German company. Sorry history lesson is over now kids.

Easy carry solution. Bicycle tube, 700X28-38C, when you lay the tube flat it is 32mm wide. Both baby Cobra XS, and 125 fit tight. I punched two holes on one end and carry with 550 para cord around neck, of course interrupt cord with weaker ring (also bike tube), so you’re safe. XS I don’t feel that’s on me, 125 I do feel slightly but it’s totally ignorable.

My buddy is a mechanic, he swears by them, I was skeptical of his over the top, praise for them... well after years of seeing him use them in situations I thought they would fail. I was so wrong. I grew up in a farm (mom was a farm girl) dad was a A&P mechanic, so grew up using TOP quality tools, and you use the correct tool for the job.THIS too, l knipex. Is one of the few exceptions, if the jaws can grab it, it will turn it as long as YOU have the strength and grip yourself., they will not slip! They are amazing, he keeps the 5" in his pocket ALL the time, I'll be picking sine up myself.

Please forgive my ignorance. Would the Knipex pliers do most everything the wrench can do? The teeth help grip things including fasteners. Or is it “right tool for the right job”? The idea that you can tighten fasteners with pliers but it is more likely to round off the heads? Whereas the wrench is a better tool for fasteners and the pliers are good for gripping things? I’m asking because I’m trying to build an EDC tool kit and have seen a lot of people using the wrench but very few using the pliers. Curious if it is necessary to have one or the other or both.

Those plier wrenches are basically the ultimate god-tool for any bike mechanic. They can do almost anything and most things you haven´t even thought about doing yet. They replace a boatload of toosl, can double as a bearing or bushing press, mobile vice etc. A plier wrench should be one of the first tools you buy alongside some (wera) hex keys and and a knipex (of course) sidecutter. I highly recommend them for any mountainbike gearhead and tool nerd! Also, thank you for pronouncing the name correctly! It always makes my toenails curl up when i hear americans mispronounce german brand names :-D
@bikesnblades67374 жыл бұрын
@@dsdf_fdp1858 For the bike I'd actually recommend the 250mm. It's the most versatile and can also manage to unscrew fork topcaps and things like that. Personally I have a 125mm as well, which I use for smaller nuts and stuff. I'd recommend the 125 especially if you want to sometimes carry it in your backpack, but the 150mm is the better choice for the workshop. Both are not big enough to get everything done on my bike though (downhill bike), hence why I recommend a 125 or 150mm plus a 250mm. The 250mm is also the one which can really be used as a makeshift bearing/bushing press as you will appreciate the wider opening and more leverage.
@bikesnblades67374 жыл бұрын
@@dsdf_fdp1858 in that case the 150 sounds good. I have the 250mm because it allows me to basically leave all my sockets at home and keep my travel toolbox nice and light and still be able to do all required jobs as well as improvise a lot with how flexible the big one is.
@bikesnblades67374 жыл бұрын
Oh, another thing I've heard, but cannot yet personally report on. The 125 apparently has a finer tip than the 150, so if you want that, consider the 125 or double check if they're really any different other than the length. I mainly recommend the 150 over the 125 because in larger hands the 125 definitely is a very small tool. It's manageable, but the feeling is more like working with a small Swiss army knife compared to a Leatherman multi tool (the 150mm), which should feel a lot more substantial in hand. With the 125 you can't really use a palm grip as it's just too small for that.

How does adjustable wrench version compare to a standard "crescent" wrench? As far as grip strength and power?

The grip strength is superior because you’re able to squeeze the handles together unlike a standard adjustable wrench like a Crescent. Also, you can set the jaw opening size to fit your needs, and it allows just enough wiggle room to act almost like a ratchet: squeeze and turn, then loosen your grip and move the wrench back into position before starting your next turn.

No, the K is not silent. Go check out the official Knipex Tools YT channel or the KC Tools YT channel and you’ll note that the K is always pronounced. Links below. kzbin.info/www/bejne/r3rIi32Xat-jeMk kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5zahJiGd86baLM

Yeah don't test it on a rusty bolt or anything.

🤣🤣🤣 I don’t keep spare rusted nuts & bolts lying around. They’re 5” long pliers dude. Like I said, I use them for small edc tasks, fixing my kids toys, and on small electronics. If I needed to free a rusted bolt I’d use penetrating fluid, heat, and a socket wrench or breaker bar like a normal person. Don’t be such an idiot.

@@GearedTowardGear1 Cool, no one has ever found themselves in a situation where they need to free a stubborn bolt and don't have a torch, breaker bar, and the appropriate socket. That never happens. Thank you for your response, very cool and smart. Cool channel. Maybe get more views if you did something smart like use a torque wrench to fasten 1/2" bolts using nordlocks and see how crazy you could get with these but whatever.

@@MrEKG123 I've done that so what's your guess on how much torque on a boat these pliers with the small handle are able to free? I'll let you know after you guess

@@BuffaloNickel9 Interesting. I'm gonna say 40 ft lbs and that seems high to me. Because I found the pliers wrench much more useful TBH, the small cobra ended up being fine for things like rounded off brake bleeder screws but pretty inadequate for anything really stuck. Whereas the pliers wrench I got was able to easily break 17 and 21mm bolts loose that had physically broken an American made crescent wrench.

@@MrEKG123 Good guess... you're right it's a touch High I wish I had recorded mine but here is a great link to a gentleman with Godzilla hands who used the smaller 4 in (100 mm 4 inch) and tapped out around 25ish.. I got about 28 foot pounds with the 125 mm on a half inch Bolt.. Let me try to find the video

You know how to pronounce it correct, but you don't care? How arrogant is that? When your name is Tom should we call you Om? ;-)
