I really like how you present your tips: direct with good flow and no fluff in between. I’m an experienced knitter and have knit a few socks but really appreciate how, finally, I see the important aspects to consider and adjust for knitting socks. Well Done!

Thank you for sharing all these great tips. The double gusset is brilliant! I would really appreciate a visual demonstration/tutorial on the written instructions and photos you generously pointed us to for this heel and double gusset.

I'm glad I found your channel!! Do you have a pattern to those particular sock (with the ribbing) and tell me how I can get it. I have been knitting for a short while and would like to try knitting socks. These look like they would be lovely!!! Thank you

Hi! Those are the Uptown Socks, they are in Cast On magazine, Summer 2023 issue, which you can get by being a member of The Knitting Guild Association.

I have a sock question. My first is on my needles. I’m 9.5” at ball of feet and 8.5” at ankle & am knitting a 9” sock size. I have knit my cuff and pulled it on, so thank goodness I can fit it over my heel but there is some resistance as I pull it over my heel. But, if I were to knit an 8” size until I reach my instep, to fit my ankle, I may not be able to fit over my heel! What should I do to fit both my ankle and my wider foot? Thank you!

In that case I would do something super stretchy at the cuff/ankle -- like a 1x1 or 2x2 ribbing, all the way down to before the heel, and cast on (or bind off) really loosely at the top of the cuff with a stretchy cast on/bind off. That way it will stretch to go on over your heel, but contract once on to fit your ankle more snugly. This would allow you to use the same number of stitches as needed for your foot at the ankle (or at least a number of stitches closer to the amount you need for the foot, anyway.)

@ thank you. That makes sense to me!

Can you point me to a good tutorial or pattern for adding a double gusset for a high arch? I have a wildly high arch and instep and would love to learn. Thank you so much!

Here's a post that explains it a bit and has photos: turtlegirl76.com/2011/11/07/tutorial-double-gusset-heel/ You'll have to play around with the stitch counts that work best for your foot shape to get something that fits you best!
