Knitted Border Shrug - Yarn Over Edge Shawl Knitting

This is a classic, elegant and simple tutorial on a knitted shrug with a border made of yarn-overs. Follow along and you’ll learn to knit yourself this piece as well as learn to: decrease, increase, yarn-over, cast-on and off and finish a knit.
//// Instructions:
Bordered Shrug
#4 (Worsted) yarn (1,080 yards) I used 4 skeins of Red Heart Unforgettable.
10 1/2 circular needles, 26” long.
k=knit
kf&b= knit the front and the back of the same stitch.
k2tog, knit 2 stitches together
yo=yarn over
Cast on 5 stitches.
Row 1.- Knit
Row 2.- Knit.
Row 3.- k2, kf&b, k2=6
Row 4.- knit =6
Row 5.- k3, yo, knit to the end of the row =7
Row 6.- k3, yo, knit to the end of the row =8
Row 7.- k3, yo, knit to the end of the row =9
Row 8.- k3, yo, knit to the end of the row =10
Row 9.- k3, yo, k2tog, yo, knit to the end of the row =11
Repeat Row # 9, until you have about 198 rows, ( 37” on each side)
or almost half the yarn (532 yards). Whatever comes first.
Decrease rows:
Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, yo, k2tog. knit to the end of the row.
Repeat this row until you have 12 stitches left.
Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.=11
Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.=10
Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.= 9
Knit 2, k2tog, yo, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.= 8
Knit 2, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.=7
Knit 2, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.=6
Knit 2, k2tog, knit to the end of the row.=5
Knit 5
Bind off.
Weave in ends.
Fold in Half and sew 2/3 of the way up on each side.
Leave 6” open for arms.

I am knitting this Bordered shrug, but a small query, 198 rows means 99 rows on one side??? Then after 99 rows do I start the decrease?? Please help

You can count rows or stitches. It would be until you have about 200 stitches on your needle before you start taking off.

Absolutely. Just add an extra stitch at the beginning of every row. When you reach the with you want, start taking off by skipping one stitch at the beginning of every row.

You fold it in half, sew 2/3 of the way up and leave 1/3 without sewing. That's where your arms go.
