I have 2 tea cosies - tea stays much hotter for longer with one. I love using one. Also, just for your information....put a bit of the boiled water in the empty tea pot, swill around to warm the pot, dump that water, then put the tea in the pot and add the boiling water. This is the traditional way to make tea here in the UK and your tea will stay hotter for even longer!

Shouldn't u use one which covers the spout too? I prefer the one that totally covers my pot so the steam doesn't escape.

I live where it's cold for 9-10 months every year and I find that tea cozies (?) are a GREAT way to deter teapots from getting cold fast. (I may or may have not made an experiment with a teapot with and without cozy and an industrial grade thermometer 🤫🤭)
@katinkasirena3 жыл бұрын
Regarding the experiment you may or may not have made: what would you say, how long does a woolen tea cosy keep your tea hot? Is it comparable to using a tea warmer? And were there differences with tea cozies from different patterns?
@laurabuche51913 жыл бұрын
@@katinkasirena my tea cozy was crocheted with a very thick "bobble-like" pattern, and the Temperature decreased 10C degrees in 30 minutes, but 10 C degrees in 15 minutes without.... It was in the middle of the winter, by the way. Interesting to try DIFFERENT cozies techniques.... what is a tea warmer?
@katinkasirena3 жыл бұрын
@@laurabuche5191 thank you, that's really interesting. It's quite a difference. Maybe tea warmer isn't the correct Englisch term, I used an online translator. 😅 It's those things, often ceramic or metal, where you put a small candle in and put your tea pot on top. In German it's called Stövchen and the small candle is 'Teelicht' which literally would translate to tea light. So you basically keep the heat by putting it on a small fire source. But it is an open flame and if you run out of Teelichter, you can't use it. A tea cozy would be much more resourceful and probably safer.

That's so cute! My grandma had a tea cozy years ago with an appliqued rose. It was gaudy and so 1970s but she loved it. Brioche is so much fun and so versatile. Now I want to make a patterned cozy!

Just completed my tea cozy. My tea starts hot so much longer. I also love the squishy feel of the brioche stitching. I’m using it to make a sweater next.

This reminded me so much of the tea cozies both my grandmother and mother had. I personally have always favoured the style of cozy that completely covers the pot and has to be lifted off to pour. Now I'm thinking I may need to add some variety to my tea cozy game.

I'm still finishing the crochet Tam O'Shanter, I'm stuck on row 35, working behind??? I'll just have a go and see if I like what it looks like and can always undo it and try again. Had about 3 false starts and 3 "no that rows rubbish start again". With plenty of: "Oh, that's what they meant and some well that's what they meant, but I'm not doing that because this will work betters". I had a collection of tea cozy patterns until last year when I had bad flooding, and decided that I couldn't dry and save all the patterns. They were my Grandmother's and Aunt's both books and pages from women's magazines. I'd never be able to make them all and there are plenty patterns to be found on-line. I remember some very ornate looking tea cozies from the 60's and 70's.

@teaeyedoubleguhur2 жыл бұрын
i have a small (2 cup) teapot and was thinking of adapting a premie cap pattern for a tea cozy, but I might make this one, too. The premie cap would be knit flat and one side seamed to make an opening for the handle. This pattern is actually easier as I'll not have to make a hole for the spout. Just stitch up the sides appropriately. Right now my cozy is an old running hat with a ponytail hole I I use for either the handle or the spout,

Does it actually help keep your tea hot? And what about the bottom? Shouldn't you make a thick pad for the bottom, too, so heat doesn't escape there as much? I may have to make one someday.
@dee-annegordon59593 жыл бұрын
Yup, it keeps the pot "cozy" for a good hour or more depending on room temperature/drafts. Depending on the surface your teapot sits on you may want a wooly trivet for the bottom, I don't use one at home since my teapot typically sits on a thick wooden surface that helps insulate it, but I make sure to have one at my mothers where the pot sits on a glass surface.
