Inga! I’m so, so happy that you’re wearing (and enjoying!) the Plotulopi shawl. I remember it was quite interesting to knit and I really liked that there were just two ends to weave in. However, I was never (not even even once!) able to keep it on my neck for more than 10 seconds 😬 At some point I even tried wearing another (softer) shawl underneath the Plotulopi one, but that wasn’t enough to counteract the scratchiness 😅 Bottom line: this was the best-received knitted gift EVER! From now on, I will only ever gift knits to other knitters and not to REGULAR PEOPLE 😂 Thank you for your love and appreciation ❤

Inga (so sorry if I have spelt your name incorrectly). My name is Mary Orazio-Smith and I adore your Podcasts which I came across around Christmas time 2022 and entering the New Year 2023. I live in Australia, in Brisbane in the State of Queensland. I grew up in southwestern Queensland in a beautiful small country town of Dirranbandi where the merino sheep were bred. I have absolutely loved each and every one of your Podcasts as I have gone back to watch it from your first Podcast. I am a Registered Nurse with over 40 years of experience both here and in the UK and I love knitting. My greatest love is doing replicas of Antique Samplers on fine Irish or English Eura linen from 15th century onwards from both the UK and across Europe. The knitting needles are all coming out as you have inspired me to pick them up again in spite of our extreme weather conditions. High 30 degrees Celsius (36-39) with the humidity in the high 90%. Ours 3 boys were all taught how to knit their Soccer Team Scarfs and our youngest child Victoria is very gifted in the crafts which she loves and presently is up in Weipa (for Norway it would be like being in Tromsa doing her final 3 month vacational work as a Mining Engineering Student before she commences her final year at U.Q. in 2 weeks time. I have told her all about your Podcast and we will spent many hours togethers Inga, watching your fantastic podcasts. I adore the ends of your videos where you show us your beautiful country of Norway!! The music is beautiful and the scenery just wonderful!! Sometimes I play the scenes of western Norway back as it reminds me so much of my amazing journey with my 2 best friends through Norway in the late fall of 1983!! Absolutely stunning and I am telling everyone down here about you as you have the most beautiful nature, incredibility gifted professionally in your medical roles and also in your personal life with your enormous talent with your knitting and the way you deliver each session. Thank you Inga for bringing beautiful light into our very troubled world and I will continue to watch and share with all. You may be hearing the clicking of many knitting needles from 'Down Under' very soon. Thank You!! Cheers. Mary.

I learn a lot about garment knitting watching your podcasts even if it is knitting for just yourself and not producing patterns at the time. I love to hear about your process on how to make modifications whenever you want because intuitively I’ve always knitted that way. But I’m just slowly starting to make garments for the first time. Edited to say: 27:29 you could look up how to single crochet stitch, half double crochet stitch, and double crochet stitches. I particularly like the look of hdc stitches and it’ll go faster. Or look up crochet borders… you never know what you might like the look of!

Love the test knit! Gilliatt is one of my absolute favourite yarns, although it does pill a bit initially, once its been defuzzed a couple of times it wears so well and stops pilling, I have several sweaters made from it and have passed them on to my daughter who still wears them all the time with no signs of pilling at all. I usually knit it on 4-5mm needles - can you tell I love it!😂. Always enjoy your podcasts and LOVED the acquisitiions one - had to giggle when you were disappearing from view then reappearing with yet more yarn😂. Makes me feel less guilty about my purchasing…

Great to know! I will have me depiller ready, perhaps the tight gauge will help with the pilling to😁

3 weeks late but oh well. I just wanted to say, I've knit a sweater using one strand of Gilliat and one strand of Biches et Buches silk mohair at a fairly loose gauge, despite wearing it SO much I haven't noticed any pilling really. It's an incredibly soft and stretchy fabric, and both yarns have a lot of beautiful colours. I highly recommend trying these two together :)

Lovely knits! Just so you know, the Gilliatt yarn streches quite a bit after blocking (I often knit with this yarn and I take it into account now because i've had to rip a project that had expanded significantly). It might be a "me thing", though... I don't know if others have had the same experience. Just thought I'd give you my feed back. I enjoyed your video. Thank you for taking the time to record it!

I haven't tried this and it's too late for this blanket, but what if you picked up stitches from one square and did a three-needle bind-off with the next one to be knitted? You'd get a ridge but it would look intentional. Then, when you were ready to sew the long strips together, you could pick up stitches along both edges on two long circular needles, cast them off together as a three-needle bind-off, then pick up more stitches on both sides and keep going. You might be able to use that hollow plastic cord that slips over the needle (if it's available in Norway). That way you could pick up along the entire long edge of the strip, do the same for the next strip and bind them off together by simply sliding them onto one end of two circular needles. Does that make any sense? I may not have described it very well.
@victoriaguerin28512 жыл бұрын
Actually, you could do it with this blanket too: pick up stitches along both of the edges you want to join and then knit them off together. You might need to knit a row first since the bind-off yarn wouldn't match the colors of some (or alll) of the squares.

Good afternoon Inga. Im a longtime viewer, first time commenter. For me, you are incredibly inspiring. It is very common for either my queue or my library to grow after watching your newest episode. Your knits and knitting are absolutely perfect! As my sister is a Dr, I’m aware of your time restraints and I find it astonishing how much you accomplish every month. I’m at wrk full time, and only get a faint fraction of what you do done. If that. Amazing! I just starting knitting Sweater No 9, using the newest base from Holst Garn (cielo) alpaca merino. It’s astonishingly soft but requires 7 mm needles, which I’m having a difficult time with. I wonder if you, with all your experience would have any tips on splicing an “icord” constructed yarn. I have to ask, bc I have no idea. I’ll spit splice and hope for the best 🤞. Anyhow, Happy New Year, and I hope you have a wonderful time up north and get to those knitting shops your hoping for.

Hey Inga! Happy New Year! I think how you join the squares for the blanket will depend on your colour design. Picking up stitches and single crocheting with a yarn of a different colour will leave part of the new yarn showing along the sides of the single crochet join, similar to the edges of a zipper. Depending on your design, you could single crochet all around all your squares with the joining yarn before joining the squares. Check out Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jpCueJePaNypi5I. Arne and Carlos have more decorative joins for their granny squares and flower blankets/throws.
