I have been struggling with my sock knitting, but refuse to give up. Thank you so much! The light bulb just went on as I watched your video!! Yippee, I get it now!! I’m ready to get going and start a new pair of vanilla socks. It took me nearly a year to finish my first pair. I have never changed colors. You made it so easy. Wow!! I love circular needles and the 9” needles looked easy to use. I’m 80 with small hands. I love knitting hats for charity, my new favorites will be socks, with your help and tutorial. So easy to understand and video is superb. Many thanks!!

can I just say that this is the pattern I use when I make any socks ever, it's quite literally the best pattern that uses 9' circulars

Thanks so much for this! I only knit socks using 9”needles but have never done a short row heel-I always do a heel flap and gusset. I’m excited to try this!!

I cannot thank you enough for this video! I have been trying to knit my first pair of socks for 3 months now and just kept messing up over and over again and began to think it was just too difficult for me but then I tried your pattern as it had a different heel and I have just finished my first sock!!! I think short row heels are definitely my go to now!

I was so excited..... I knit lots of socks, so far no luck on 9" needles - no one ever says very difficult if you are knitting over 56 stitches, which is the size I use for myself on 2.25 needles!! I find 9" absolutely tortuous. Though great video.

I've been crocheting as long as I can remember. I learned how when I was a little girl. I learned to knit as an adult. I always felt awkward working with two needles as opposed to one hook. On top of that I'm left handed and instructions confused me. I started crocheting socks a few years ago. The difficulty with crocheting socks is they are thicker and don't have a lot of stretch. Some fancy stitches feel lumpy in socks. Crochet has limits. You can crochet fine lacy things that knitting doesn't complete with. Socks are something more suited to knitting. I fully understand the rivalry between crocheted and knitters. It all in good craft humor. This is an easy and clear video that I understand. I know the very basics of knitting and haven't made anything more complicated than a dishcloth...but I like a good challenge. I'm crafty by nature and when I get my mind set on something that I want, I do it. I will definitely try this pattern. I would also like to learn the ribbed pattern to mix things up... I'm doing 1 color stockingnet stitch for my first pair. I already have a lot of sock yarn. I even have some expensive alpaca yarn that I bought from an alpaca farm close by. Maybe my next pair will be from that...I have some wool/rayon blend in trying first it's aboutv1/4 the cost of the alpaca.

You mention that you use a long tail cast on but you actually do the German twisted which is stretchier than the plain long tail.

Get Chiaogoo shorties with 2” tips to create flexible DPNs. Use them when you have too few stitches to comfortably use 9” circular. Then Kitchener stitch to close.

I was following this pattern I'm a beginner when you are doing the heel and say to stop when see two stitches together and turn your work, but you didn't say if you knit all the way to those 2 first stitches or the last two stitches you knitted together in every row? Does that make sense?

When you start the heel flap, do you "work" stitches when transferring, or only transfer from one needle to the dpn? I think I'm doing it wrong!

could i use a 3mm needle and follow the pattern here directly? (i have lots of yarn to use up for 3mm needles!)
@FaerieDust Жыл бұрын
Almost. Since you're working larger, unless you're a super knitter you'll most likely end up with larger socks than the pattern indicates. You should be fine if you just follow the pattern for one or two sizes smaller than what you want (so if you want L socks, follow the M or S pattern) but you might have to experiment a little to find the perfect fit. Though, honestly, you could cast on any number of stitches since the pattern really only deals with either the whole sock or half of it at a time. You just need an even number of stitches.
