Make an old motorcycle chain out of a new knife, that'd really be impressive
@emilflognoid1532
@emilflognoid1532 5 ай бұрын
That would actually be way harder as a knife is one solid peice of metal and a chain is a bunch of precise peices engineered and bolted together.... you'd be better of just leaving it as a chain in the first place and not making a knife and then making that knife back into a chain.

_Such craftsmanship._ This is why great swords were so expensive, back in the day, and received such honour. I know the metal of samurai swords was folded multiple times which made them so much stronger. When the Japanese surrendered to the U.S. on USS Missouri ending WW2, and the officers handed in their swords, many of those weapons were hundreds of years old. _That's_ workmanship. Marvellous!

The white powder is more than likely borax. It help prevents the surface from rapid oxidation which comprises the forging which will create inclusions in the forged metal. The used motor oil was probably used because it is a thought that the carbon in the used motor oil is absorbed into the metal in the heat treat. This is actually false. But the viscosity of motor oil is a excellent liquid for quenching. It helps the the thermal regulation and keeps a even heat treat. This helps with preventing warping and cracks. I use used motor oil just because I have it
