I figured that would happen, to many occlusions (Air Pockets) Should have filled the void with steel powder, then it would have been a solid billet.. Nice recovery though, but I can see tiny pits in it and I'm afraid it probably full of micro cracks.. Thank you for sharing..

I honestly wasn't expecting the pattern to come out like that, it's somewhat subtle but still amazing.
@MarkRosengartenАй бұрын
When I saw the can come apart in the initial press and the large number of voids when the can came off, I never thought it would come together as a clean billet. Then the top layers were removed and I was surprised how solid it came out. I was thinking "he's going to have to borax the everloving shit out of that to make it work" and you did and it did. I'm pleased with how the final piece came out. Was hoping for a more dramatic pattern but the way it went together was all verticals in the same direction anyway, so it was going to come out how it came out all along. Wouldn't want that thing thrown in my direction, that's for sure! Thanks for sharing.

Sometimes when you do a pattern welded (damascus) billet, the metal needs to be removed instead of moved to protect the integrity of the pattern. Too much hammering can destroy the pattern.

Lots of disagreements in the chat about this guy skills he is crude but he is skillful enough to make a knife. Some people you can show them an $8000 knife and a five dollar knife and they wouldn’t have a clue that there’s a difference and others know the difference, that’s why I see all this arguing. The guy is skill enough to make things in the shape of a knife, but as far as them being sharp and staying sharp, it’s not happening the one he just made will never hold an edge. I thought I would just give my opinion I usually don’t do this. I’ve been making blades for 31 years mainly katanas and samurai swords spent seven years in Japan learning from the best this guy is making Temu knives it’s very interesting reading comments between two people that are arguing because it’s obvious one guy knows quality and other just sees a knife. I’m not gonna point out. Who’s who but you know who you are.

To me a knife is only worth as much as its function. So, I tend to lean towards getting powdered steels like S90V, MagnaCut, etc. an “$8000” knife that has substandard behaviour compared to a scientifically made $200 knife is just art.

I enjoyed the video. I guess I was expecting a different looking pattern from the material arrangement, but I suppose there weren't that many layers. Interesting that you managed a clean forge weld without steel powder filling the gaps. I guess if it's clean and you smash it hard enough with the press at the right temp it'll weld regardless. There was a lot going on here I didn’t understand. It looked like the screws were plated. I’ve never tried working with a plated material because conventional wisdom says it doesn’t work. He also didn’t use fines as a filler material. It made forging much more difficult. I also don’t know what he sprayed into the can prior to forging or why. I’d like to see how the blade holds up under testing
