Welcome to another video.
This time we have a TDI in the workshop where potentially just injectors need doing .... or maybe something else needs doing... After I started the car up I knew this would not be a quick one, but that's what happens when a diesel try to be a ''sport '' car ..
Enjoy the video , thank you for watching .

enjoy watching these videos because of the complexity of these high performance audi's, shocking the low mileage some of these cars have issues at. shocked at complexity of simply bits like oil filter housing and all the plastic pipes and gaskets. im coming from a volvo whiteblock (normally mapped) background, do all my work myself on my 2 poster and have come to expect 150k+ miles with just basic servicing!! keep the videos coming.

BiTDI here with almost 300.000km. Engine is complicated but solid. Leaky injector would kill any engine. There are no bad engines but bad drivers and worse mechanics

I also have a 2014 A6 BiTDI with 205k km. I recently had a problem with a stuck variable geometry actuator on the small turbo. I went to the mechanic and it suddenly started moving normally after a few tests. I'm becoming increasingly anxious with this engine. Yesterday I watched a video where the inside of the flex pipe between the exhaust manifold and the turbo was shedding these enormous metal strips directly into the hot side and these strips got wrapped around the shaft... I'm thinking of selling my car at this point. As much as I love it.

we also had a allroad BiTDI with almost 270k km. It was amazing and drive really nice with great air suspension. We didn't ever need to fix the suspension 😯. But after 5 years, we went to mechanics 2-3 times a year. We went to latvia for a little holiday and after seeing that the weather wasn't the greatest for the whole week, we decided to head back home and about 30 km from the border, we did an overtake and lost the engine. rpm gauge went to 0 with glow plug sign but the mechanics never figured out what caused it. We thought maybe it was because of old oil but doubt it. We had to wait 3-4 hours for a towtruck from audi. Not great experience.

I’m a self taught engine rebuilder and all I do is look for damage and clean all parts before refitting in cases of worn bearings and metal bits all over the engine - no need to replace everything - an oil cooler can be cleaned successfully. I only replace damaged bits. You probably have a reputation to maintain etc but replacing everything is overkill. I’ve done this for years on Jaguar 3.0 tdv6, Insignia, Audi engines and none has failed prematurely.

I’ve had 5. Nothing fundamentally wrong with the cars themselves. If you buy used (as I do) you are at the mercy of three things… the intelligence of the previous owners, the competence of the people who maintained it and the environment it lived in. The one in the video ought to still be under manufacturer warranty - the cost of the car and potentially high repair costs makes the cost of warranty extension a no-brainer. If you’re too skint to extend the warranty, you failed to budget properly when you bought the car.

What would be of use is for you to tell us the miles on the car/engines you do at the start of the video (edit, OK you did mention it later). The cyl head looks pretty clean as if the car has been well serviced, but without knowing the miles, no correlations can be made really. As for metal being throughout the engine, well that is what I thought the filter is there for, to catch these particles from entering the lubrication system. Seems a little strange to me. I am interested to see what is in the lubrication system.

Oil filters only catch 25-30 microns. The metal particles circulating after catastrophic bearing failure are much smaller so they grind everything. Based on the turbo shaft wear at such low mileage, it's clear the vehicle has been run for long periods on sh*t oil, and it seems on sh*t diesel too, causing injector failure.

I have 'over serviced' the car from new and had few problems - all fixed by Audi even well after warranty had expired - and frankly if there was a catastrophic failure of the engine (fingers crossed that won't happen) I'd probably buy a new short motor and stick with it as it has been so good.

Wow Owning a performance Audi looks to be an expensive lottery. I'll stick to my Rover 75 which is now on 210k miles all original and 50mpg. And with todays cameras and speed limits an Audi can't get from A - B any quicker than I can 😅

My friend had a Q5 2.0 turbo petrol and the timing chain snapped at 65k they spent 5k for a recon engine and it too went boom after 18 months same problem it came with a 12 month warranty so the car got sold as a wright off they lost about 15k all in

Injectors are definitely the weak point in these engines, whether it be the injector seals or the Injectors themselves

WHAT DID YOU SAY!!??? Classic Audi Design. OMG I forgot to add the Turbo! Quick, add these bits, that'll do, now sell it. Hugs to your finger.

There is catastrophic damage here at very low mileage. Previous owner must have run this on the cheapest oil he could find - no way do turbo shafts get so much slop otherwise, and bearings fail. There's vane damage too meaning probably run without air filters..... and maybe crap fuel to damage the injectors. Audi diesels are complex, but they don't typically fail before they're run in...... A track car perhaps?

was thiking the same when hearing the milage. at 44k miles there should no be any damage like this on the turbos. Could also have been that the car was being kicked when cold, the longest possible maintenance cycle, etc.
