@@ajw9377 It depends on the type of charges. If it’s a criminal case, it doesn’t cost the Filipina anything - a criminal case is pursued by the government, not the individual. I only have two years tech school… I support her and the family for 20 years.. when she filed for divorce she claimed I wouldn’t let her work so she was entitled to a large alimony payment… the judge granted to her .. in the final settlement she settled for a large lump sum and I paid her and slowly recovered… just saying it’s worse here I think

The PH has laws that are actually realistic and do not prohibit or scare away men and women to become a family. That's very refreshing to hear when you come from the western world, where almost every law seems to have the goal to end family life altogether. Thank you Pea for the great information! Let's hope none of us will ever need that information.

I can tell you from experience that if you have the flexibility to work remote - regardless of your income level - your life will be so much more peaceful and happy. I did this back in the early 2007. I was earning approximately $40k a year and was tired of meeting and dating women who initially started out as feminine but eventually showed their true colors became difficult and argumentative. My friend came back from an remote work assignment to the Philippines with his new bride. I was amazed at how feminine, respectful, and thankful she was for him to be her husband + the change in how happy and healthy my friend was when he came back. He told me that with the exception of missing his Mom / Dad and 2 siblings life is so much better with a good solid, devoted wife by his side. Plus the cost of living difference made his life even more peaceful. Eventually they both moved back to the Philippines in 2006 and now have 3 children. I now have been married for 12 years to an absolutely beautiful younger woman and have 2 boys and also work for a foreign country that needed a person to be a business contact for local Philippine businesses and have increased my income +5x and have an extremely comfortable lifestyle, built a beautiful home with plenty of land + we travel quite frequently. After all of this my wife is still very much the same. She still won't purchase anything expensive, designer clothes, or wants to drive a fancy car. Everything is done so with our family in mind. She still is beautiful and often people people thinks she is 24-25 (she is 33) and still wears the same size clothes. I guess I was one of the earlier "Passport" brothers. Life is beautiful. My wife is my life.

It's disheartening to consider that an ex-partner might have been abusive and violent, with the potential to continue causing distress and legal challenges for the woman years later. Really common problem. Obtaining a divorce can seem nearly impossible, requiring a lengthy process that may extend over years, and involving expenses upwards of 310k PHP (years income) for family court proceedings, psychiatric evaluations, and other associated costs as only way to annul the marriage. Lets hope that the process of obtaining a divorce in the Philippines will become more straightforward in the future..

My wife is a Filipina for 8 months now Why does Nanay not work? Why does Tatay not work? Why don't 2 kuyas and an ate work? A house of 6 people, 5 old enough to work, but NO ONE WORKS! Instead, they sleep all day, drink tanduay or watch TV. I am sending them 50,000 pesos a month right now. I know it's not much, but I have bills too. I work 12 hours day from monday to saturday. I EARN my money. I wish I could sit around and get paid for it! I also send them gifts. TV, stereo, electronics, clothes. Then they say it's all not enough. I'm rude, stuck up, stingy, and all kinds of other bad things. Like I cheat on my wife and do drugs. Why are Filipinos like this? Why don't you guys work for a living, instead of begging from others? When others give, why don't you appreciate it? Why do you say it's not enough, and we are garbage for helping? I'm not trying to make hate, I really want to understand. In our culture, this is very rude. Is there some reasoning for this ?

Most foreign men have zero clue about the absolute mine field that is SE Asia. There are laws and customs that will chew up and spit out gullible/naive men who think that they are the center of the Universe. They are the target of every level of scammer. Some are grossly idiotic and easily spotted while other long game scams are truly ingenious and evil in nature. I knew a rich Filipino man who had a side chick/side wife (not uncommon). He then had children with her .... or so he thought. He also had an attorney for many years providing him legal advice for his corporation. As he approached his last few years on Earth he learned that for decades the side chick/wife was actually married to his attorney all along. They milked him for so much money it was amazing. Her children? The lawyers of course but the old rich guy paid for them as well.

Good vid Pea and Gracelyn. I read Republic Act 9262. I would advise any foreigner formalizing a relationship with a Filipina do so. The reason is this Act goes way beyond economic abuse. It has a psychological component which could happen in any break up. Then it includes the typical physical, emotional and verbal abuse provisions which women in the USA lie about all of the time. A pissed off Filipina could easily file a complaint and from what I have seen from these cases involving Filipinos you are guilty until proven innocent and they take you to jail no questions asked. The differences are a foreigner can afford bail if the judge sets an amount. Most Filipinos can't and they sit in prison often for years awaiting even a first hearing.

The trouble with speaking with lawyers or security consultants, is their tendency to scare the crap out of you. Some advice from a foreigner living 23 years in the Philippines and with the same loving, provincial Filipino partner for last 17 years.: Do not get married to her unless you want to live outside the Philippines and have the marriage overseas, where divorce is legal! Never invest more than 10% of your net worth in the Philippines and be prepared to walk away from it! Avoid having children unless you really want them. Travel often, taking her to other countries so she can see how each country has its pros and cons and can compare with how well we live in the Philippines. After a few years of cohabitation when love, commitment and trust has been proven, give her financial security with her own land and house, so that she stays with you because she wants to and vice-versa Take care of her well, but control the purse strings by teaching and delegating budget and expense reports on a spreadsheet…. It will serve her well, when you are gone.

I can understand that preventing someone to apply for a job is a crime and it should be as long as it goes both ways. But unfortunately it opens the doors for people to accuse others of crimes they didn't commit so each of those cases has to be taken individually and carefully examined. and it has to be remembered that the person is innocent to proven guilty.

Ay man, you think this shit is bad, look at Sharia law lmfao. You can get your head chopped off if two other muslims kill someone then say it was you, if you don't have an alibi- you're done o/ Two vs One - the justification for this retarded legal system? Apparently all our 'fates' and 'ends' are written 20,000 years ago by God and if you get wrongly accused and killed, it's fine because God intended you to die that way. Absolute insanity.
@emuhill

This innocent until proven guilty stuff is generally a US thing. Once you leave the US, those laws no longer apply. In most countries around the world it's usually guilty until proven innocent. Although even in the US these days it seems to be guilty until proven innocent is what is really practiced.

I think a whole lot of things need to happen to keep you safe!! Finding proof if your partner is truly single and not separated. Also for peace of mind BOTH parties going to dr to get checked for any diseases like TB, STD’s AIDS just to name a few. Also when coming from the west most of us are looking for traditional roles in a relationship or maybe we just want to travel with are mate so it must be known upfront maybe with a lawyer that your partner would rather not work if it wasn’t necessary!! Just my thought

I have no plan that I know of to go to the Philippines and this is STILL great content! It’s clear you both did a lot of preparation (esp Gracie, I think) and the result is a really interesting pair of videos, with all the questions asked and answered. “Let it be known” as said by Gracie is going to stick in my head. “Concubinage” is word I’m going to use on our podcast, too. Wow. Speaking of Gracie…any chance you could not use that sensational pic of her in the episode header, and maybe ask her to I don’t know, put a bag over her head? Every time I remember that she’s happily married my heart breaks a little. In the same vein, if you marry please keep it a secret 😉. Anyway, once again, really good work here, thank you both.

Before all this it has been my opinion to live alone until marriage. In the Philippines I'd add to that hiring a maid to take care of my home but just because thats not to expensive lol. I want to marry for love and that means getting to know the person, becoming best friends with that woman, and having a lot of common interests. Age does not matter to me, older, younger, same age etc.

Child maintenance in the UK. Basically if you refuse to pay. Your money can be deducted from your earnings directly from your place of work. If you don't work money can taken from your state benefits. I don't know how much can be taken from work, but depending how much you earn. If not working its £1 per day. = £365 a year.

OK you just brought up something about common law marriage in the Philippines that you left out I think in other videos about this topic. The way I understood it from you in the past was all she had to do was live with you and it could be considered a common law marriage. Did living with you could be represented by her just having a change of clothing or other things in your home. I don’t remember you saying anything about five years have to pass first. So it takes 5 years for it to be considered a common law marriage. That it still does not give the Filipina rights of a legal union. That she can lay claim to 50% of The assets that were purchased while together and only if it can be proved. Too Ex-pats hang on to all your receipts from things you purchased and hide them were only you know they are. Allow your partner to hang onto the receipts of what your partner purchased. Pea, Thank you for elaborating on that this is very useful information and it makes me feel a little bit more comfortable about having a relationship in the Philippines. Again Pea another good episode.😇

Hi Pea. These last to videos have lots of good info. Just seems some of it there is a double standard like ok for one but not the other hmmmm. It would probably benefit a lot of people if they could get a legal separation so if they wish to date or live with a new person there would be no backlash. I do think it is time the government here passed the divorce law so people are free to do what they want and not have to worry about someone causing problems. On a side note it would benefit the government to make pot legal. In the west and Thailand they made it legal for medical and personal use. Since then there has been store popping up all over to sell pot and the government gets the tax money so it is a win win. It is just not legal to grow and sell pot. You and Gracey provide a lot of good legal information and I always enjoy when you have her on. Also nice to see 2 very pretty ladies. Keep smiling and stay safe
