The best features of gouache is that it dries really fast, it's opaque, it's re-workable, no brush strokes, and more importantly, it dries into a matte finish which makes it easy to photograph and scan. Think about those illustrations for mid century car advertisements.
@allisonaletha11 ай бұрын
YES!! I love the matte quality. 💛
@urban_fox4658Ай бұрын
The drying really fast thing is the only feature I struggle with; especially when mixing and blending, so I bought some blending medium mostly used for acrylic paint and it’s been such a huge help! That’s something I’ve never seen in a tutorial… gouache mixing in the palette. I want to SEE how artists keep it from drying out and not adding too much water, ergo losing all the opaque factor!

That's is such a fun cartoon composition.. You are telling a story here and that is so fun to me. The range of colors is great, and I like the rhythm of the boxes with the straight lines and the natural curves of the characters. The use of contrast between warm and cold tones is nice too. I really love this. It's not the kind of thing I typically want to work on, but I enjoyed every second of this video, and I would love to paint this myself and teach my grown daughters how to paint it too. Gouache for the win! It's nice you came in with a color pen of some sort at the end for the list board. Mixed media is a common feature of gouache art. Also, thanks spellchecker for teaching how to spell gouache correctly. I also like how you state your goals. I think for young artists this is a free and easy tool to win at everything every time.

Adding on to Allie’s description I also like using HIMI gouache it’s thick and I think it’s very beginner friendly! I personally use the ice blue set with the 24 colors and 3 paint brushes and think it’s very unique how the colors are on paper and canvas with having the control to how you paint your masterpiece unlike watercolors having to save your white spaces. Remember there is no right or wrong way to express how you paint with your gouache or any medium! Have fun and happy painting! :)

I really wanted to watch this video, but it's difficult for my brain to listen to what you have to say and the a little too loud background music. So I couldn't finish watching and won't be watching parts 2 and 3. Please KZbin content creators no music is best, you are not producing a movie. Instructional videos are best heard with just your voice.
@allisonaletha19 күн бұрын
Hello! First of all, I’m so, so sorry about the loud music in this video. I was still quite new to editing, and didn’t quite understand the concept of volume control. 😅 One of the hazards of learning how to edit, I suppose. Anyhoo, I made a compilation video of this series titled “EVERYTHING you need to know to begin your GOUACHE JOURNEY”, where I smoothed out most of the icky editing, put all these videos in one place, and (most importantly 😅) fixed the music volume issue. There’s still a bit of music in the background, but it’s not distracting anymore. Anyhoo, if you’re still interested in the info from this series, you might give that video a try! Also, thank you for the constructive criticism! Many people have left comments about the audio in this video, but truthfully, most of those comments have been quite hateful. I appreciate you taking the time to speak your mind in a thoughtful and helpful way!
