Because the dictionaries don't include the nuanced differences between words with similar meanings, these videos that compare words are so very helpful. Thank you!
@songphil13762 жыл бұрын
All of these confusions are from the fact that the English verb“to know” is way overused and its meaning got stretched too thin. In other languages, different verbs are commonly used in place of “to know” This is my understanding after viewing Andy’s. Renshi=to be acquainted with Zhidao= to have a knowledge about Dong= to be able to understand Mingbai = to be clear about something Liaojie = to be familiar with Lijie = to understand the reasons(why) I wish someone had given meanings on KZbin in Thai, I could have saved myself almost 2 hours. However nobody could replace Andy. He is impeccable.

thank you! i wonder how common the usage between them is. in comparrison , in french there is only the verbes savoir and connaitre used the most commonly, one regarding a familairty with a noun, especially people, the other is to know a fact for certain. english does not have so many rules about what verbs, so we could say i understand , comprehend, we know, we confirm quite loosley to arrive at getting our points accross quicker. versus other languages are more strict on the context and subject of which one is speaking about.

Stuff like this is why i love languages. For a Portuguese the 认识 vs 知道 is elementary. It's "conheçer" vs "saber". Completely different, but in english they're the same so it's more difficult for them. The more languages you know the easier it is to learn new ones becuase of concepts like these😁

谢谢老师!Your explanation was excellent as usual! The first one was a piece of cake because in Polish we also have a clear difference between 认识 and 知道. You helped me find the Polish equivalents of the second pair and to understand the third one. As for the quiz, I would say 我知道他可是他不知道我 to make it something like "I have the knowledge about him, but he doesn't have the knowledge about me. But wouldn't be 我认识他可是她不认识我 be also correct to mean "I can recognize him, but he can't recognize me"? As for the second sentence, 我懂他

The sentence you propose is precious! In Portuguese it would probably be somewhat close to this: “Eu já ouvi falar de Confucius, mas eu não tenho uma ideia clara sobre ele. Muitas pessoas formulam uma opinião sobre as suas palavras mas sem a capacidade de o compreender. Eu li muitos livros sobre Confucius, compreendi o seu pensamento, posso (agora) formar uma opinião refletindo sobre toda a informação. 😉 多谢!

Hello Andy, thanks again for your great fun and helpful videos, I am sure you should open a foreign language school for Chinese in Germany, people would break the door to you - to Cornona, of course, because I myself work at the Ministry of Health in the corona pandemic, I know that many want to and have to learn a foreign language now and for later, I'm doing this because of my girlfriend in Beijing who I hope will see again soon, if things continue like this, December was 2 years ago. Well, however, maybe it's because of my age (60 years old) that it takes longer until I understand what you want to teach us or maybe you have a tip for learning. Greetings Hans

Looking at the questions at the end the first one 'I know him but he doesn't know me.' I would be tempted to use 'Zhidao' for both cases of 'Know' since it could be that he's never heard about me, but I have a feeling the second 'know' should be 'renshi' since he wouldn't recognise me in the street. Haven't done the second question yet.

Lets say I don't know french. A french person asks me in french and I respond in chinese using DONG. This prompts him to know that I don't know french at all. Lets say I know a bit of french. A french person asks me in french and I respond in chinese using MINGBAI. This prompts him to respond more slowly and using easier words. Correct me if I'm wrong
@mydarkterrors3 жыл бұрын
from what I understood: *mingbai* is like a confirmation that you *comprehend the information or topic from another persons message* . so if you responded with *bu mingbai* , the person would just *repeat what they said or explain it in another way* , like a person would when they get the information that their message wasn't clear or not understood. In your example, *they would repeat themselves in french* . when you say *ting bu dong* it would mean that you have *no comprehension of what was said because you are simply not capable of doing so* (for instance: not knowing the language in which the message was expressed). So in your example, you'd basically tell your french conversation partner, that they *do not even have to try to speak slower and repeat what they said, because you simply don't understand french* . >> If you want to express that you *acustically* couldn't understand them (speaking too fast or too quiet), you have to use *ting bu dao* .

I was born in Bangkok. 汉语不能说,我被出生在曼谷。而是: 我出生在曼谷。出生已经是被动状态了。 This kid wasn't born by Madam Li. 这孩子不是被李阿姨生的。正确的应该 : 这孩子不是李阿姨生的。不需要用 "被"。 This problem can be solved . 问题可以被解决了。这也应该不用加 "被",直接说问题可以解决了。 The church was built in 1800 这间教堂被建造于1800年。这应该怪怪的,正确的应该。这间教堂建于1800年, 或者。这间教堂是1800年建造的。两者都不需要加 被。 我认为passive voice是汉语最complicated 的文法之一。 请求老师有空可以做这个视频。什么状况可以用passive voice, 还有有哪些verb 本来已经是被动句子了。万分感谢。

@@AskAndy hi 老师,我非常同意以上的请求有关制作解释被动语态。 Passive Voice is the most complicated in Chinese grammar. I remember when I was asked by my Chinese teacher to make some sentences in Chinese. I wrote. 我们每天使用的电灯是被爱迪生发明。And my teacher said the correct sentence is 我们每天使用的电灯是爱迪生发明的。in fact I tried to translate from English - Passive Voice: The electric lamp that we use every day WAS INVENTED BY EDISON.
