I love old purses. I have about a hundred. Beaded, leather, patent leather, straw, chain mail...I've got a ton of whining &Davis, very nice but don't sell for much usually. Does as anyone remember "wet look" not sure what the materials are, but they were meant to look wet!. I had a bright red shiny wet look jacket as a kid. So funny. I bought a red wet look clutch just for the nostalgia!

I do remember Wet Look. I forgot the name, though, until I just read your comment above. I was thinking it was just the patent leather. But no! As soon as I read it, I recognized it--it was like, 'that's it!!" (I had been trying to remember; from my junior high days--mid 70's.) Thanks! :)

@13:10 I might have acquired that wallet anyway. A lot of people like orange and abstract - even if it wasn't a popular brand, I bet the right buyer may be out there. (That is if the price was right, like a dollar or so.) About 10 years ago I sold primarily clothing and accessories, but then the returns got out of control. And.. I seemed to have the problem with people wanting a refund and not wanting to ship the item back almost exclusively with clothing, I don't know why that is.

Great tips as always! I’ll tell you-you’re in my head! I list things and I go high on my price-even for items that aren’t necessarily “sought after” because mine is unique-color, pattern, shape, whatever! I have to tell myself, “There’s no rush! Someone will see it and have to have it!” It is almost always the case. On a side note, some of what I’m selling is stuff I’m finding as a get ready (2 year plan) to downsize from a big old farmhouse to a smaller home, and retire from teaching. I list the most random stuff and it sells! Today I sold pacifiers-new in package of course. I must have bought them for a baby shower and they never made it into the gift bag or whatever. So, quick pic and listed. Listen, money in my pocket. I already had two other sales to mail out. My husband is starting to believe and stop calling it a fun hobby! 😊

I have that pentagram trivet, I bought it at a barn sale (UK). The guy singled me out and offered me it for a fiver. I think he thought I was a witch haha, it's the fair skin and dark hair! Apparently it actually belonged to a witch though, who had sold up and moved to a little Scottish island. There was a cauldron as well, but he couldn't find it and I never returned.

Can you do a video on how to price unmarked vintage jewelry or how to tell how old it is? I received a lot of vintage jewelry when my great aunt passed away and I have started an Etsy store but I’m not sure how to price it and I don’t want to put the wrong date on them lol. I have been picking with my mom my whole life but she never did jewelry and we are so out of our element.
@dinacox19713 жыл бұрын
I have sold and continue to sell vintage jewelry. My advice is to sort 1st by appearance. You should be able to see what is made better and/or in very good condition. The rest set aside and sell in a lot. Vintage jewelry lots can bring a lot. I sell on eBay and use all of the pictures. I would take the 1st photo of the entire lot (probably include the weight of the whole lot in the description) and then take closer photos of several pieces at a time that are the most appealing and maybe coordinate. Now back to the better items. I then use readers (I am 63) and magnifying glass and even a loop sometimes to examine very very closely to see any markings. The markings to identify are key. If you know and then can put brand & "signed" in your listing as keywords you are a long way to success. Using the brand name and little description do a google search, click on images and you will almost always find similar items and prices that they have sold for. Comps are key. I then price reasonably given comps and use 'buy it now'. I do not use auctions. Lastly, I package with care, using a box, tissue paper, and even a little silver color sticker disc to close the tissue. My returns are almost non-existent. Good Luck. Oh, finally if you just want to sell it all, please do not hesitate to respond...I would certainly be interested!
@kaseyc13503 жыл бұрын
Jewelry is a massive category - you'll learn a ton if you take the time to research your lot. Quadruple check each piece for markings, turning it in the light to see if you can catch an engraving or etching faded with time... I'm always impressed by the number of times I've missed a mark. On broaches, check the pin itself for signatures, check the thin borders of pieces - it's not always prominent on the back. Then materials and construction, especially, will be important indicators of quality and value & age. If the "stones" (because glass beads can also be very valuable in vintage costume jewelry) are SET in TEETH, as opposed to glued, the piece is more valuable. To set the bead or stone is more time intensive and skillful. If the setting itself is open in the back, allowing for light to shine through the bead or stone, that's another indication of craftsmanship. For materials, the more you handle, the more you can tell by the feel of something - you'll come to be able to feel real silver, or bakelite, so even if something isn't marked "925," you'll be confident it's real silver. And, for example, during WWII, precious metals were reserved for wartime use. Jewelry makers instead used silver, wood, celluloid and lucite.
