Rupert’s relentless and highly articulate constant pointing to the nature of awareness is commendable and this form of pedagogy and exploration is necessary Comparing Rupert to the other neo-advaitins here on you tube, the message and method of taking participants to the nature of awareness is pretty much the same. EG. Mooji Satsang s are same type of explorations for participants. It would help if Allan Neachel could do a number of videos clarifying for his listeners that these explorations are merely a prelude to the arduous practice of self inquiry, as brilliantly expounded by Ramana Maharishi and Nisargadatta. Otherwise many will ultimately feel disappointed in their spiritual exploration

In my experience, resting as presence is the position from which enquiry happens naturally and effortlessly by presence itself.

I agree with both of you. Also, as Alan says these new age teachers teach you the basics - some beautifully like Rupert. However, what they don’t say is that resting in “I am” is the beginning. Who is going to tell the rest? I only know three of them: the two saints that you already mentioned and Buddha. But they all are gone.

If you could find yourself as an object then obviously it could not be who you are, so no point looking. I am, as pure subject, cannot see itself yet is fully aware that It Is.

Deep sleep is a part of non duality that I’m not sure on. You may well have slept deeply and feel well upon awaking, but I’m not sure this is derived from a non objective knowing, it seems more likely an immediate reflection of your current state (now the waking state or transition to it) feels good, and therefore you intuit I must have slept well, I feel well, I feel rested, but it seems more accurate that this is an inference based on your rested state and lack of known disruption (that you would remember, sleep disturbances would be remembered), deep sleep is like death really, I don’t feel I experienced deep sleep in anyway at all, experiencing was absent, you could argue that this good rested feeling relates to a non objective experience experienced, but it doesn’t fit well with me, I feel I assess my sleep quality based on my current waking state feeling, thought retrospectively assigns the label ‘I slept well’, if I feel well, or ‘I slept poorly’ if I feel rough, which is usually backed up with memories of night time disruption, it’s always bothered me the deep sleep questions and answers
@alanneachell90922 жыл бұрын
Ultimately we need to deeply look into our own experience. 🙏🏽💕
@jjjos2 жыл бұрын
@@alanneachell9092 yep, know thyself, I’m going to check this out for a week and see really where am I getting this from. I do believe one of the great gurus Ramana perhaps? not sure, but they said they were aware during deep sleep, but not much to say about it objectively of course. I mean you are (to varying levels) aware in deep sleep as some part of consciousness is monitoring the environment for intruders or kids etc. Although, I also find the complete lack of fear people have in going to sleep slightly surprising, considering you do literally die, I think this must be what death looks like.
@anbukkarasimanoharan7752 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the blissful state of our sleep is experienced by/conveyed to the mind immediately on waking up though the mind was not present during deep sleep. But the mind was present throughout our disturbed sleep and hence we do not felt well rested upon waking. It is the presence of Consciousness which takes care of all our bodily functions like breathing, keeping the heart beat, digestion etc. Hence there is no question of absence of Consciousness in all the three states.
@robertjones55482 жыл бұрын
The question of our awareness during sleep seemed to be what was most concerning to this man, not so much his awareness when awake.So when our “ apparatus “ dies, it’s difficult to understand what or how awareness is known.🙏

The question about do you cease to exist in deep sleep is difficult. Personally I don't have any memory of deep sleep so I can't say I was aware of awareness during this time. Maybe awareness skips deep sleep as time is an illusion? So deep sleep doesn't exist for awareness.
@alanneachell90922 жыл бұрын
You're question comes from the idea that you, the apparent person experiences three states of waking, dreaming and deep sleep. If we put the idea of individuality aside we can see that there are not three states but only one state that we call awareness which seems to go through a transition from objectlesness to unstable appearance (dream) to an apparently coherent, stable world. As you said objectless awareness is not in time.
@awarenesszen83212 жыл бұрын
@@alanneachell9092 thanks for the great reply. I'm still confused on how we can comment if 'were we aware during deep sleep' if we have no recollection of this deep sleep awareness in the waking state.
