You didn't include why Texas wanted independence from Mexico in the first place. Mexico encouraged immigration to Texas in order to counter tribal raids as it was vulnerable for being sparsely populated, but the settlers who went to Texas were American protestants and slave owners from the South. So when Mexico abolished slavery in 1829 and enforced Catholicism on them, these settlers were angry at the government. After being concerned with stability, the government stopped immigration from the US and increased taxes, but the settlers completely ignored these laws. The settlers also didn't like that in 1835, Mexico removed the 1824 constitution, which promoted a federal system, in favor of the Siete Leyes which promoted a centralized one. They saw that as losing their autonomy.

First time in my life to see the actual temperature below zero in my part of Texas. Seen the wind chill before zero several times but the real temperature only then. You forgot how Texas is now the 9th, soon to be 8th, biggest economy in the world, is the second most populated state in the Union (and growing), is the biggest producer/exporter of oil/natural gas for the USA, still has it's own power grind, giving it power autonomy from the rest of the country and has one of the most successful economic triangles in the world. Fortune 500 companies are lining up to move there, along with booming business models and middle-class citizens. I'd say Texas has come a long way and is now one of the biggest success stories in the Union.

"Home of the fastest road in the USA" and ironically also home to the WIDEST road in not just the US but also the WORLD. The Katy Freeway, or Interstate 10 west of Houston, has TWENTY SIX lanes! It is truly the "Build another lane, that'll solve traffic" of highways. Building more lanes won't solve traffic, it'll just make said traffic even worse. If there was better train infrastructure in the US where rural towns get convenient train service (like rural places in Japan or Switzerland; they have one-car trains which is perfect for small towns in the more remote parts) and are well-connected to cities, then more people would ride trains, and thus it'll be a better time on the road for those who prefer to drive with less cars to deal with.

No longer the widest in the world that goes to some monstrosity built in China, I think very few understand Texas road culture. We are a very independent minded people we go where we want to go when we want to go there, trains are very restricting in that effect, heck I went to the middle of a field barely anyone knows about last week to look for prairie chickens, and the week before that drove down a beach looking for alligators hiding in the wetlands. Most of our cities are structured around having cars because we all have them and love our cars and the freedom our cars allow us. Most of our major cities try to push light rail but we just rarely use it as once again we like to go where we want when we want. On the other side of the coin the rural farmers already hate rail, there is an idea to link Houston and Dallas with a high speed rail line, but it most likely will never happen because the farmers and ranchers between the cities do not want construction crews disturbing their fields, these are people who value their privacy and many love living out of the cities because of the privacy it secures them. Texas is just a different place culturally, we have tons of people moving here into our cities and most are surprised by how different we are compared with where they came from trying to lump us in with other countries so far away just doesn't work because we are different. Also I love the Katy Freeway its the fastest freeway in Houston mostly because when there is a slow car in front of you there is always another lane you can switch too, Houston has a particular car culture if you drive there expect to drive fast, I am talking 20 over the speed limit and still get passed up all the time. Scared of a cop pulling you over? Don't worry he is doing 20 over right next to you. Texas Drivers drive a lot and drive far it is not rare to here someone taking a day trip to some town 150 to 200 miles away, and they are back to sleep in their own bed that night, all while lugging a pick up truck full of whatever gear they need, fishing, hunting, camping, a boat, bicycles, you'll pass hundreds of such trucks on any Texas highway on any weekend. (Or considering how fast they drive, maybe they'll pass you)

The science is flawed. Build more lanes relieves congestion, plain and simple. It's like a water hose that is backed up and sprays at a very, very high velocity. Keep enlarging the hose until the velocity decreases. At the point that the velocity decreases to a normal rate is when the congestion finally has been relieved. What the science proves is not that increasing the number of lanes increases the vehicles... it proves that Houston will continue to be congested for many, many lanes of increase to come. Houston is just that badly congested. Plain and simple. The city streets should have been enlarged from the beginning. Too late now. They need to add a subway system, as the only option left. New York and Los Angeles figured this out a long time ago.

Light rail at ground level doesn't seem to work either, raised light rail might work but would be very very expensive. Contrary to popular belief, Mexicans fought on both sides for Texas independence from Mexico. Santa Ana was considered a dictator. People want to bring up slaves, but most of the farmers that fought for independence did not even own slaves. They were considered poor. However, they were threatened to have their land taken away. I am Mexican, American, and my family has been here since Mexico was Mexico, and even before, when Texas was populated by native Texan “Mexican” indigenous people. Video misrepresents 20th century Texas entirely. Economically speaking the 20th century was a period of steady growth for the Texas economy after the discovery of oil in 1901. Over the next century, Texas would become a world leader in energy, industry and technology production. NASA’s headquarters are located in Texas, Dell Computers, Texas Instruments, etc… all in Texas (hardly a territory of strife. It’s population has grown to be the second largest in the US with 4-5 of the nation’s largest cities which rank amongst the fastest growing in the U.S. Social/racial strife continued in Texas and was especially harsh in first half of the 20th century, but the author exaggerated the effect of the Kennedy Assassination of Texas history. It makes it seem like Texas never recovered from the Civil War 160 years ago.

Decent overview of Texas history. As anyone would expect there is so much more history and nuance that there is not enough time to get to. The only thing I wish you changed was the position of the hurricane, JFK and drought photos. The drought photo should be on the left as that is the arid desert part of Texas. The JFK photo should be on top since you literally have the zoom box pointed at the Dallas area. Finally the hurricane photo should be on bottom since that is the closest to the coast.
