It bugs me a little when everyone focuses on ANY under-1000cc bike as a "beginner's bike". I've been riding for over 50 years and have never had anything bigger than 750 (My current ride is a V-Star 650). I'm seriously looking at the V7-III for another ride across Canada (last one was on a Virago 750). I mean: nobody looks at a Toyota Corolla and says "It's a great first car, but more experienced drivers would want something with more horsepower..." There's NO REASON to have over 750 except for bragging rights and feeding your testosterone.

It's nothing to do with first or starters, as serious biker, this bike is a seriously good ride and beautifully nice. Biking isn't all about power... If that's what you want don't buy this...so a mid range pleasant ride it's really nice. Nothing. Absolutely nothing about a beginner's bike. !

Completely agree with this also. There's nothing "beginner" about the V7. A 50cc moped is enough to get you killed if you're an idiot driver.

Although I agree with you, but at the end it comes down to what's between the ears. You can start from a 1250gs to a simple CG125. It depends on how sensible and mature the rider is. My first beginner bikes were 650cc, 850 and 1100. I felt on the 650 I'd get myself in trouble. On 1100 I felt absolutely safe for how I am riding. I don't go fast, never, except small bursts just to hear my bike singing, that's all. and believe it or not, my 1100 has less power than the 650cc I rode, and has a much more docile throttle.

I have one for a year. Reliable, fun to ride, easiest to maintain, have lots of character. Great gearing for city traffic and slow speeds. It's like ridding an 80's BMW, but a new reliable one

This is one of the reasons why I'm thinking about getting a V7. I have a R90/6 from 1976 that I've been commuting on, but unfortunately, running a 40+ year old bike, there are quite a lot that can break (unless you spend a fortune of restoring it to a completely new bike).

I just traded in my 2006 Yamaha FJR1300AE for this exact MG. As age creeps up (me, not the bike) I felt the need to downsize my ride. I wanted a bike with a soul and personality is light and capable, and whole lot of fun. I've done my share of racing, sport touring, and cruising. I am returning to my roots and this bike fits the bill. No frills, just me and the machine enjoying an easy and sometimes spirited ride within the boundaries of my skill. If you are thinking of the V7lll, don't waste any time thinking about it. Just do it. Besides, my Norton needs a new friend.

Great beginner bike. I’m 66 yrs old. I’ve owned 17 bikes over the years. Drove a Honda Blackbird at 155 MPH...once. So now that I’m older, not as strong as I once was, reflexes not tip top, some aches and pains with a little arthritis thrown in, poor vision, poor hearing, yes, this is the perfect beginner bike for me. Usa here, bought this as my 5th bike, first brand new bike, and first non Japanese bike. This bike is amazing to ride. I've never felt anything like this before. I've become what they call a Guzzisti! I'm obsessed with the brand now. First one I fell in love with was the 2010 classic. Found out it was discontinued and saw the stone. that was it I was in love! The Milano and the special are also beautiful and amazing. I chose the stone because it was the first one I saw after the classic. I want more guzzis!!

I’ve got the V7iii Special (blue) variant of this bike, and I took one for a test ride and put a deposit down that day. I love it, it looks stunning, and it’s great to ride at a leisurely pace, still giving loads of feedback, you suggest it’s a great starter bike. I’m the opposite having just retired, I’ve downsized from a 1200cc.

I got the v9 bobber from via moto last year I like the special I'd have been just as happy on that. As said in the video my takeaway is the bike puts you at ease and wants you to look at the surrounding countryside

Just got a V7iii and for anyone looking at one, its better than any reviews say. The sound is incredible with mistral exhausts, the power is great, its comfortable. Probably my favorite bike I've ever owned. The suspension is great and it doesn't scrape pegs easily. To me its a perfect middle road between Ducati and Harley, but better than either.

failed to mention ease of servicing as this bike with this layout of engine with OHV is the easiest motorcycle in the world to service. Don't have to remove the tank in order to do the tappets (massive bonus). No shims like the Triumph so adjustment is simply by way of feeler gauge-screw driver & spanner. A perfected design over decades of production so very well proven & reliable. I had an early Breva model with big miles on & it never used oil between changes. Super reliable & under stressed engine.

I’ve just covered my first 1000 miles on my V9 bobber and I’ve fallen in love with Guzzis a great first big bike ,it is a bike that you need to learn to ride once you do that it all smooths out ,suspension gets out of shape between 80 or 90 but it’s a cruiser so how often do you do that speed it’s a great bike at real world speeds put a windscreen on it and you can cruise at 60 70 mph all day the stock exhaust is a little quiet but it has this beautiful rumble and open it up in 3rd it growls it’s not perfect but no bike is ,if you want a bike that has Italian styling is easy to ride and customise,that you can ride all day and turns heads go get yourself a Guzzi ,be brave go for sumthing different from the usual Jap and German bikes you won’t be disappointed it puts a smile on your face 😀

If you pull back on the bars of any bike at speed it will wander about, this is especially true of a cruiser where there is a tendency to hang onto the bars. A side gust from a lorry will send the bike into the next lane. If you would lean forwards into the wind and press a little onto the bars using light counter-steering to guide it they become rock-steady.

IT'S A GREAT LADIES BIKE!! They're just meant to be ridden which means reliability and low maintenance. I've got the V7 Classic which is identical except for the actual styling (choice of Black or White Gloss tank, guards, and side covers, and Stainless pipes with Chromed spoked wheels which all give it a real old school look. But otherwise it's identical in every way). And these boys are quite right in what they say about it:- I wouldn't call it a high performance m.c. by any means, but it's certainly built for comfort and distance. At 55 y.o. I'm getting on in years and I wanted downsize to something I could "grow old disgracefully" but with comfort, especially as I still do a lot of long solo rides of between 1400kms -1800kms. So I sold my BMW R100 and bought a brand new V7 Classic and I haven't looked back - it was the best choice for me! And it certainly looks the part. It's so easy to keep in pristine condition as well as being a very simple motorcycle to maintain. I do all of my own oil changes and other basic maintenance, but at my age I just find it easier to leave the tune-ups to the MG Workshop because of the computer chip, but I do have a full workshop manual for her and I use it when necessary. I don't recommend this m.c. for anyone over 6' height due to complaints from a friend who experienced cramping and aching knees, and so he sold his. The only downside that I find is that with the onboard computer the battery needs to go on a trickle charger if you don't plan on riding it for 15+ days because it will be flat. It does make me want to ride it even if I don't have a planned destination and thankfully there's a highway just 2 minutes away. Also, the mirrors are just a smidge too short, and need another 3-4 inches on the wings. But it is a full-size bike and with 52 horses there's plenty of power where it's needed, so big hills and overtaking trucks are always effortless manouvres, and I LOVE shaft drive m.c's !! It certainly gets a lot of attention for being such a good looking machine, and it's the only one in my whole county that I'm aware of : ) I highly recommend it to any enthusiast who likes to do some distance in enjoyable comfort, and also that buyers pay the extra straight up for a centre-stand if you're planning on doing your own maintenance ... but it makes washing and polishing much easier too. Oh, and I love the side stand - it's a huge improvement on the R100. Also, it won't start if you leave it down.

Just came across this video 2 years after it was posted. I've been riding 54 years and presently have a 1,500cc Intruder V twin. It's big, heavy and, for it's engine size, a slug. It has enough torque to pull a house trailer, but a lame child on a tricycle could take me in a drag race. That's not what motorcycles are all about for me. I can thump along in perfect comfort (I'm 6' 3" with loooong legs) at 100 kph turning around 2,600rpm. That's from other websites as there's no tach to confirm. At 72 she's getting a little ponderous for my gimpy knees. My brother is selling his V7 Stornello and I may bite. It's not about tearing up pavement but knees in the breeze comfort, reliability and rideability. If only he'd part with his gorgeous California!

Now own a 1989 Moto Guzzi Mille GT that carried me home for 125 miles on one cylinder, most at highway speed, after a plug connection crapped out on a Sunday morning and no one open for maintenance. This bike has a unique dry clutch design instead of a wet clutch. How will you be able to hold the clutch at friction zone for long at low speed maneuvering without wearing it out? Dry clutch is a bad design for motorcycle, correct?

Took one of these for a ride yesterday, my first time on a V-Twin. Loved the torque and exhaust note when opening up, not to mention the comfort. That said, throttle response was very abrupt in slow moving traffic, would be interested to hear if there is anyway to amend that. Overall, very tempted to make it my next bike.

I think this bike suit my riding style. I don't ride fast and this bike has good acceleration enough for me. Good for everyday riding. Also Guzzi has low seat and light which is really comfortable for short person like me too. I am going to buy this V7iii soon.

Great quality film. But do get feed up of bikes getting bad reviews for not being track orientated. As for traction control. Try a diesel covered roundabout in January. Bikes are the perfect vehicle for one person transport. Not just for posing. Your gear is good and practical.

For me, the MG is way prettier & I will soon test drive both bikes; however, you were sort of cut-off when about to talk about the gear selector being "super lazy". Did you mean by this that it only displays digitally (ie gear number changes) after you fully let clutch out or was there another reason for not liking it? Hi, no the v7iii is a really cool bike. It just has some electronics it probably doesn't need dont work all that well. Its only the gear indicator that isn't great, doesn't stop you being in gear, just indicates incorrectly in our experience. Hope that helps. Aaron Knox

If that is a demo bike then do be aware that Guzzi do restrict the power and rev limiter up to first dealer service. Which is what they do with the A2 Licence 35kW variant, it has an ECU restriction. Changing the silencers will make them louder but not add any real power on this bike. The stock pipes do make a nice roar under power. I already have one bike that sounds like an artillery battery, having loud pipes can be quite tiring for a relaxing ride. It's not a crotch rocket so don't ride it like that, but it can shift when needed and the sweet handling makes up for a lack of horses. It is possible to go backwards with an update of a bike model. The V7 III has grown 50-lb heavier than the V7 II which negates the extra two horses and doesn't do the handling any favours. The maximum torque is the same but further up the revs; the power band is shorter than before. The lack of a tachometer is a backward step. The traction control does work, it is possible to get the V7 II airborne and the MGTC brings it back under control. Likewise on wet roads, there's a lot of torque very low down; the Guzzi should pull away just but letting the clutch out at idle. There are two traction levels, sporty and wet, and it can be disabled if you are daft. The V7 II only has the sporty level which I expect all riders will set the V7 III to. The front Brembo is an asymmetric 4-pot, it's the dog's furry bits but the lack of grip from the Pirellis has the ABS cutting in too early. Imo Avon Roadrider, they completely transformed my V7 II to cat on rails.

I am a soon to become A2 driver (currently driving a 2019 Honda Monkey) and may consider this bike but also the Benelli Leoncino Trail .... that you reviewed as well and seemed to love ! I can see that you were actually driving once during this test .... so what will you recommend ? If you are A2 license holder, there are also several BMW models inc F900r that is A2 license. However, if it was my personal choice, I would get a Vitpilen 701 A2 compliant and ride that! the seat is comfortable, but it is incredibly flat. When I sat on the back of the Guzzi V7III it was comfortable, but was close to falling off the back of it as it is almost parallel to the floor . Hope that helps, Aaron, Knox.

I've looked into this... There is a big bore kit that bumps it to 820cc but from what I've read, all you need is some nice slip on mufflers and a tune.. The V7, V7 II, and V7 III aren't meant to be "fast" bikes.. but if you consider a 5.5 second 0-100kmh slow, then you should probably go for a sporty roadster like a Ducati Monster or Aprilia Shiver. I'm going for the V7 III because I'm just wanting a bike I can ride and not get into legal trouble with. I've had 3 bikes so far, and one of which was a 2013 Honda CBR600RR. I personally don't want or need a "fast" motorcycle.. and thinking back, my 2003 750cc Honda Shadow was plenty.. the 1300cc Honda Fury I had was nice.. but 15 minutes into owning it, a West Virginia deer decided to total it and damn near kill me. So long story short, I don't want or need a fast bike.. I've grown out of it. So the V7 III Stone is all I need or want.

Hi, probably the interceptor (our choice actually the continental gt). The interceptor handles better from memory and has more ground clearance... While its not got as much power, it is quite a bit cheaper and there isnt much to seperate them. However, of course you could argue the Guzzi has more character and the twin wobble is nice! Seems like the RE twins are selling right at MSRP, whereas the Guzzi's are selling quite a bit below. I could get a V7 III Stone or a RE 650 for about $5999...of course depending on paintwork options. I've been learning towards the Continental GT myself as well, but thought the Interceptor was more comparable to the V7. Thanks for the response.

I am 6ft2" and have a V7. I do fit on it ok but it's obviously not roomy like an adventure bike or similar. I find my knee's touch the tank cut outs when I am towards the front of the seat, if I shuffle backwards a bit it's fine. It's not a deal breaker as the bump is smooth and shallow enough. Regarding the bars, because they are pretty high and I have long arms I sit quite upright, I would personally prefer lower bars for a slight forward lean, but this is personal preference you might feel differently. I would recommend you check out cycle-ergo.com/ to clearly compare hip and knee angles etc.

On the "Stone" yes. The versions with spoked wheels have tube-type tires instead.

Wet, put a V9 engine in, in the same state of tune, so about 60-65 HP instead of "tuned for torque" like the bobber, price it at the Enfield 650, Harley 883 and lower end Triumph twins, sell boatloads.

The matt finish is harder to keep clean & the black finish compared to the special with it's splendid chrome finish is not good either. You also only get 1 instrument on your cluster and again no chrome bezel so again it's not a great finishing. Like the fork gator's though and yes the Guzzi V7 is a great bike especially when it comes to servicing & personality.

How you try to pronounce 'Guzzi' depends whether you're trying to do it in italian or lombard. Mandello del Lario is in Lombardy where the "u" is "oo" and the "zz" is "ss", so "Goossie" would not be inappropriate. In standard italian every letter is pronounced so, "Guz'zi", with a stop but without adding a "t". Pizza (peet'za) is an american word ;) I woulldn't worry about mangling foreign words.

Gets nearly twice the torque at 2500rpm though, but you're right, stick the V9, in a more normal state of tune (65hp-ish) in this and you'll sell stacks to people who don't want a pretend Triumph

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Some people love this type of power and combination, just think it would also be nice to have an option with more power. Such as a Triumph T120 for example, where they run the Bonneville but have a higher output engine. Plus Moto Guzzi have the capability now with the engine from the V85tt which would be nice in the bike. Thanks, Aaron KNOX

@@KnoxArmour Yes, your comment in the video was genuine, but you must consider a bunch of things. The V85 stone would increase in power and in price. No doubt about it. Not to mention the much bigger size of the 85, really big, too big for this bike? I wonder. In any case we are talking about an immaginary new moto, with a different design too. If a rider feels that this bike is underpowered for him, well there is plenty of beautiful options. The mentioned Triumph for example, 1200 cc, 80 hp, and a price close to double. Personally, l consider perfectly good bikes both the V7 50 hp and the T120 80 hp. But it is clear that they are two different bikes. It is useless to complain for 50 hp when you have in the poket 8.000 euro. Useless to cry when you pay +13.000 euro for just +30 hp. You know what l mean. For me, for this type of "fun bike", V7 offers a much better deal than T120, considering design, power, price. But this is a personal opinion!!! Byee, thank you for videos!!

@@robmitchell716 dunno? Do you want a good looking bike that is fun to ride and handles like a cat on rails (on Avons) or do you still like fighting the VFR through bends. The V7 is very easy to ride. You might notice the V7 doesn't have fancy suspension, it doesn't need it, handling is something they got right out of the box. The prettiness extends to the engineering. italian engineering is good but it has to be pretty too, they'll use the next screw size down to everyone else, and it works.

Usually you see reviewers struggling to find glowing things to say about the bikes they get to ride. Not these guys. A couple years ago I went around the block on a V7 Stone. It was a cheap feeling poorly engineered soulless piece of rubbish. It's exactly the wrong bike for new riders. They will walk away from riding saying to themselves "Well, if that's all there is to it..."
