I’ve only recently heard this version of the sound of silence, and it hit me hard emotionally, since I first heard it I have watched probably over 100 reaction videos, and the vast majority of those are shocked, bye pure emotion of the song sung by the lead singer of Disturbed David Draiman, after doing a little bit more research, what makes it even more incredible is that on the day this was broadcast he was suffering with a 102° fever! When you look at the meaning of the words, you can understand why it is so emotive, Paul Simon wrote this in 1964, as a warning to society that communication was important. This was at the height of the civil rights movement and the start of the Vietnam war , he recently said that he and Garfunkel sang the song with the voice of an angel to give a warning, he said that when David sang it, it was with the voice of an avenging angel, wielding, a sword of anger, because people had not heeded the warning! After this broadcast, he tweeted David now owns this song, and should take it forward for people to hear the warning.

Wow, that is incredible! I didn’t know that. I agree with Paul Simon, it really did feel more like an avenging angel… that is such a perfect way to describe it. And I love when other singer/songwriters hear their songs covered by other artists and can feel like it’s been transformed, and that the song has been passed on. That is one of the best things about art. It’s timeless! It inspires people, it can be shaped into something new, or it can be revived and feel new for a different generation. 🤍

Another note...at one point, the sound crew of the show applied Auto-Tuning....which David Draiman did not want. Also, if you get a chance, check out the office video for this as well....very powerful.

After the break, it went right into this song version, and boy did I wake up quickly ! I did not believe how cool it was to hear the cover of Paul's song. I heard them live for the first time in Stockholm this summer and it was one of the best concerts I've been to despite the arena not being the greatest (and I've been to many concerts). Both Disturbed and S&G are musical Gods in my house and I love both versions. Interestingly I feel that Disturbed's version really highlights the lyrics. Tip: a quick left arrow press after a pause to start 5 seconds earlier makes it feel more cohesive. Still a nice reaction!

Jenna, Disturbed are usually a heavy metal band, so this tribute to Simon & Garfukel was a real departure from the kind of things they normally produce. The lead singer, David Draiman, was originally a trained cantor in the Jewish religion, and although his family wanted him to continue in the faith, he chose to go into rock music instead. I heard after this particular performance, he was in tears backstage as the raw emotion of the song overpowered him, and of course feeling really sick at the time, everything hit him at once. I also heard (and there's no way of proving it) that Paul Simon himself heard this amazing version of his song, and told David that he now 'owned it' and I'd love that to be true. What a lovely reaction Jenna. You're a natural! 😄 🙋‍♂

Wonderful first reaction,a great band and song to start with. The singers name is David Draiman he was professionally trained as a Jewish cantor hence his control, range and power to his vocals. Disturbed is a heavy metal/rock band with a very large catalog if you want the heavy side listen to Down with the Sickness mild version (the adult lol version is pretty disturbing no pun intended),The Vengeful One is also a good one. You want a toned down rock version I suggest The Light it has a very powerful message and Hold On To Memories is another great one. Keep up the good work look forward to more from you. God bless you and yours.

for as great as this vid is... there is NOTHING like feeling the music HIT you... to be there in person, front row... to feel the sound waves strike ja... vids are nice... but being hit by music is just another level... would've loved to be there. why i love Rammstein... to feel the flames and to have an entire stadium shaking the ground and singing about you... nothing like live music by those who are so damn gifted. to sit six feet away from one of the best slap base guitarists and see him smile at ja when hes about to riff... to be tired, dirty, sweaty, filthy because you just got sunburned dancing and jumping at an outdoor concert... love live. and this song.. Dave tore it down and made the lyrics, in my opinion, soar for what they were meant to become. Dave got the deed to the ranch on this one.

The Sound of Silence is widely regarded as one of the most poetic and profound songs from the 1960s. It was written by Paul Simon, who was 21 years old at the time and later recorded and performed by the legendary duo of Simon & Garfunkel in 1964. It speaks of the disconnection and loneliness that can be felt in modern society. The song deals with feelings of loneliness and isolation and evokes feelings of introspection and contemplation. The first verse sets the tone: "Hello darkness, my old friend I’ve come to talk with you again Because a vision softly creeping Left its seeds while I was sleeping And the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of silence.” The lyrics suggest that through introspect the speaker is subconsciously talking to his own inner darkness about embracing the silence brought about by his self ostracizing behavior leaving a vision of loneliness and isolation planted in his mind. And he is trying to make sense of it. The speaker is seeking clarity and understanding. The second verse expands on this theme by talking about people who “talk without speaking” and “hear without listening.” The song is about the disconnect between people, such as himself, who are lost in their own subconscious conversations who can be physically present but emotionally absent. The speaker is lamenting that people are so consumed by their own thoughts and concerns that they fail to connect with one another. The third verse of the song is perhaps the most poignant. The lyrics speak of “the sound of silence” and how it can be “like a cancer that grows.” The silence that the speaker is referring to is the silence between people, the inability to connect on a deeper level. The song is about the urgent need to break the silence and connect with one another, to bridge the gap that separates us. The speaker seeks clarity and understanding, but he is doing it in isolation. The Sound of Silence is a powerful reminder of the importance of human connection. The song speaks to a universal truth that is as relevant today as it was when it was first recorded in 1964. It is a message that resonates with people of all ages and backgrounds, reminding us that we are not alone in our struggles. The song is a call to action, urging us to break the silence, to reach out to one another, and to find a way to reconnect. In today’s modern world, where communication is increasingly dominated by technology and social media, the message of The Sound of Silence is more critical than ever. Despite all the tools at our disposal, we are becoming increasingly disconnected from one another. These lyrics encourage listeners to break the silence and reconnect with humanity.

Being a poet who has been highly influenced by Paul Simon, I listened to this song when it first came out and realized the importance of it. Paul and Art sang it with their happy, poppy combination of harmonies, and I think the warning was lost on the ears who heard it. David and Disturbed, decades later, retuned with the admonishment of our deafness too Paul's cry to action. If one does not listen for the meaning in a song, just tap their toe to the beat, they miss some of the greatest depth of human spirit to which they might ever be exposed. David forces you to hear them. You cannot ignore them. And you mustn't! By the way, he was ill when he performed this.

Not Juliard. He trained to be a cantor in Jerusalem for a time. His great grandfather was a cantor in the largest synagogue in Jerusalem years ago.

If you like harmonizing etc, you should look at a few acapella groups. Home Free, Pentatonix and VoicePlay are all amazing and have all been around for some years. I prefer Home Free and a good starting point is the "Man of Constant Sorrow" video...but any of the catalog of these groups will leave you speechless.

Hello beautiful lady, Wow is definitely the right word for this song and no none of their other music sounds like this. More hard core. I have a recommendation for you Journey Live in houston 1981 Mother, Father is the song title.

I am not a hard rock fan, so it really amazes me when a hard rock singer sounds so beautiful. You reacted to Night Wish, Floor Jenson has several songs on line singing in a more toned down performance, and her voice is outstanding.

Paul Simon liked this cover so much that he actually told Draiman that this is now his song. Daimon was very sick when he did this on Conan

Another GREAT cover song is the band Bad Wolves doing a tribute to the Cranberries' song "Zombie" (Singer Dolores O'Diordan was scheduled to go in the studio and add her vocals to it but then she tragically was killed. Proceeds from this song went to her family) It's a MUST see, a very emotional song and video, especially if you've seen the original video from the 90's

Total WOW GOOSE BUMP right?!!! I grew up with Simon & Garfunkel and my fav Metals band ✊👊fists in the air “DISTURBED”!!! They brought to light another Artists message who “predicted” today ~ what happened to eye contact in-person stimulation? People look down not around it’s the consumption of “tech” world yah! look look David up he was a “cantor” and his respect for such and family you shall read, this re~make displays the Class and Justice of another Artist.

NOTE 2 things about davis ....on this live davis had very high fever , he was with fluds over their and his voice was crystal...2nd note somewhere to the start he just turn his head and just looking someone with angry face...someone used autotune which davis hates it so hard...he dont like to use machines when he is singing !!!!

I hope you react to the band Tool. Tool is a progressive rock band that is known for having odd time signatures and longer songs that take you on a journey thru your mind. Tool is meticulous about song composition and treats the vocals as an instrument within the music. They are master musicians. I recommend reacting to the song The Pot first. Tool has a huge fan base known as the Tool Army and Tool’s last album Fear Inoculum August 2019 outsold Taylor Swift’s album.

You did a fine job first time out. Your reaction/perception instincts are excellent; your communication style is engaging; you balance time well. Would suggest when you pause, especially at a transitional point in the piece, you might want to run it back a little to as to catch the dynamic in the transition, uninterrupted. You entertain well. Congratulations, and welcome aboard!
