People forget how good Kobe’s outside percentage was before he broke his index finger on his shooting hand in two different places and developed arthritis in the bone from continuing to play. For his entire career, he released the ball with his index finger on his shooting hand, after that injury he had to change his form/release. His outside shot, and touch overall, was never quite the same after that. His index finger, which was his primary release finger, was so bad that he couldn’t even spin a basketball on it anymore. Then he started shifting I believe to releasing more with his middle finger. Remember that season he was shooting 50% from the field before the injury, and was on course to possibly win MVP for a 2nd time, after that injury his FG percentage dropped to about 41%. But he kept playing and won a chip that year against the Celtics, but his finger never recovered.

The set point piece is very interesting comparing Kobe’s high point to Curry’s low. The pro being it’s more difficult to block, the con being it’s slower to get off which I believe suited both of they’re games & play styles. You always want to shoot the ball the same way every time however I’m sure from time to time Kobe being the perfectionist psycho that he was did practice shots with a lower set point as he was always the 1 taking the last shot and sometimes did not always have enough time to reach that high set point.

Amazing form but as with Jordan , nothing a mere mortal can do. To have this form u need the long arms then hands the shoulders , the body to execute these biomechanics. Seen a lot of kids try to shoot this kind of high release high elevation shot - but they simply don’t have the strength and body to come close. Steph curry’s, Reggie’s, even ray allens form is far more attainable

from 2008 - 2020 i would judge a basketball game based on how closely they replicated kobe's jumper. if they got his jumper down pretty good i knew the game would be realistic if his jumper looked fugly, the rest of the game would also be fugly. here's my list of great kobe jumpers in video games: 1. NBA 2k11. they had his sweep and sway down but also the form on his release was super realistic. also happens to be my favorite simulation basketball game of all time. nba live 09 got the cadence to his jump shot down better. but fadeaways, contested pull ups all in favor of 2k11. 2. NBA Live 09. perfect rhythm and sweep and sway for kobe's jumper. kicked right leg out further, upon landing his right foot would be angled to the right , his body slightly leaning back with the sway. the only issue with the jumper is his hands upon release. not entirely kobe's form. if you took nba 2k20-2k24's release form and put it on live 09 sweep and sway animation it'd be the perfect replication of kobe's jumper from top to bottom. 3. nba 2k14, 2k19, 2k20, 2k24: his upper release is damn near spot on in these newer 2ks. only issue is his lower base is not kobe like. he just basically jumps straight up and down legs slightly moving forward. i feel his upper release in 2k24 paired with his sweep and sway from live 09 or 2k11 would be the perfect kobe jumper. in fact i often modify his jumper in todays 2k games to resemble a blend of 2k11 and 2k24 kobe's jumper . usually find the john wall base or what used to be jump shot base 70 in 2k20 to be pretty accurate for his sweep and sway (either covington or culver have it now for their base). it gives kobe a more 2006-2010 looking kobe jumper where he jumped higher and kicked his legs forward for power on deep shots. nba 2k16 and 17 with the weird after shot animations kinda ruins the realism of kobe's shots (he wasnt doing emotes after every jumper) nba elite 11 is obviously not gunna make the cut. nba 2k12 and 2k13 although great games overall kinda went away from making kobe's jumper look super realistic which for me often times brought me outta the immersion.

You should do one over carmelo anthony's shooting form
@novicadamnjanovic934
@novicadamnjanovic934 2 ай бұрын
Now look, you made a good breakdown , BUT. His shooting form isn't something anyone should replicate. He has 2 motion shooting form which isn't bad for midrange shoots since you don't need that much power but rather need more space. But shooting from 3p line or further away you would need one motion form to be consistent and higher % shooter. And biggest issue with his shooting form is that for most people shooting with that high set point would eventually lead to shoulder pain. His shooting is a thing of art when you watch it but keep in mind his work ethic and daily repetition he has done through his long career. At some point it's not about mechanics but rather about reps and confidence, today most people shoot less than 300 taken shoots per week and act as if they are best shooters outside of NBA 😂

@@DZShooting24 that first dribble off of the triple threat then into a pullup/fadeaway shot, the gather between those.
@DZShooting24
@DZShooting24 3 ай бұрын
@@galaxybrainjimmy1520 I think the most important part of that is really pounding the ball on that first dribble. A - you sell the drive, B - you create some momentum to explode upwards into the pullup with. And then with repetition you're able to gather the ball right into your hands and shot pocket perfectly each time
@BeanSneaksPH
@BeanSneaksPH 3 ай бұрын
@@galaxybrainjimmy1520 Kobe usually fakes the defender off the triple threat looking for ways the defender might bite and move a foot. he always depends on the defenders balance where he wants to go. if he jabs right foot to right and the defender bites he goes to the left and vice versa. wherever the defenders hips is facing he goes the opposite way. the foot work is when you jab right then you want to go left. you pound dribble with your left hand going to the left with the right foot then left to create the one-two step then pull up. if you jab left and he bites dribble with right hand but extend ur left foot to the right 1st then right foot for the 1-2 step then pull up.

I've always noticed that too. While his form is definitely one of the nicest out there, it's not the best to practice and emulate for a lot of people unless they have the athlecism and arm strength as his jumper needs a lot of lift and is basically a catapult style. He was able to be consistent with it because he was a pro that could put an insane amount of hours into it. Again, something else that not a lot of people can afford to do.

His shot is only slightly flat, but remember he was getting like 38inch vertical and is 6'6', so a huge arch isn't necessary! Also remember Kobe was responsible for most of his team's points and was a volume shooter in an era where it was extremely difficult to score.
