Mavericks @ Lakers, March 2, 2008 | The 2007-08 regular season featured one of the tightest races for western conference playoff positioning in NBA history. Both the Mavs (39-20) and the Lakers (41-18) entered this Sunday afternoon showdown looking to make a move in the standings. Kobe and the Lakers were coming off a tough road loss in Portland where their 10 game winning streak came to an end. Kobe ended the first half with 14 points but uncharacteristically left 7 points at the free throw line (3-10). He added 8 more points in the 3rd, but the Lakers were outscored 21-15 and Dallas took a three point lead to the 4th. Kobe went nuclear in the final quarter, exploding for 22 points with a perfect 13-13 from the line. After a Dirk Nowitzki three sent the game into overtime, Kobe added in another 8 points and the Lakers pulled away for good. KB ended the afternoon with his 22nd career 50+ point game, scoring 52 points on 15-27 shooting and grabbing 11 rebounds. After missing 7 of his first 10 at the free throw line, he made his next 17 to record a career-high 27 free throw attempts, making 20.

It’s 2008 and Van Gundy and Jackson acknowledge that Kobe has been the best “at least” the last 3-4 years. Then he went to three straight finals, winning two. These are former players and coaches, not talking heads in the media or sports writers. Guys that actually know basketball. RIP MAMBA

Kobe should have won, at least, 3 straight MVPs from 2006-08. He dragged a Lakers team with Smoosh Parker and Kwame Brown to the playoffs. But Nash somehow got the MVP again 2006, and Dirk wins in 2007, because he was on the league's best team. It shouldn't have taken Kobe's Lakers being one of the top teams in the league for him to finally get the MVP.

@@pomerlain8924 Who was Dirk's second best player? Jason fuckin Terry? They won 67 games. The Lakers lost to the Sun's in 06' and 07' in the first round. They blew a 3-1 lead in 06' when the Suns were without Amar'e Stoudemire. Outside of few instances, the MVP has always gone to the best player on the best regular season team. Are you going to pretend that Phil Jackson wasn't coaching those Lakers teams?

Aaron Wright What the fuck are you talking about? that exact same Cavs team was a lottery squad in 11 without LeBron. They had almost identical roster and could not even get a 9 or 10 spot in the East. Kobe had Ariza, Gasol, Odom and fucking Phil Jackson and in 2010 had Ron Artest. All of his bench players could shoot and he played offense first garbage squads every single playoffs series except against the Spurs which were far weaker than they’d been the entire previous decade. His WCF opponent was the fucking Nuggets with Melo who doesn’t play defense, Kmart who doesn’t play defense and JR Smith who doesn’t play defense and old man Chauncey. They then played a massively overachieving trash Suns team in the 2010 WCF that also played zero defense. LeBron played The Hawks, Celtics and Magic which were all elite defensive teams in the playoffs.

7:35 even the announcers think it's unbelievable that the best player in the league doesn't have a mvp. You see MVP doesn't mean you're the best player in the league. Nobody would call 2 time mvp steve nash the best hell nobody cares he even has two MVPs. When i tell that to people they be like Nash got MVP over Kobe? Kobe was the best in the league from 2002 or 03 until 2010 from then on it was LeBrons time even tho what happened in the 2011 finals isn't worthy of being called best in the world so maybe from 03 until 11. Still just 1 MVP cuz that shit is based on your team record although most ppl view mvps as individual accomplishments. That's totally wrong. Give Kobe some great teammates in his prime he'd be first in that tough western conference and have multiple mvps. Not to mention the media always hated that guy cuz of the rape charge and he didn't give any fucks about them.

Shaq was Kobe's teammate during the early 2000's so that took votes away from him and when the Lakers became Kobe's team they weren't very good. I don't think your team has to be the #1 seed to be named MVP but winning does have to play a part in the process. LeBron & Wade also had strong cases (and identical or superior stats) at that time so it wasn't just Kobe that was robbed.

I've seen Kobe using this rebound technique often, pushing into the defender as if he wants to go one way and then suddenly releasing the pressure. Kobe always knew when it was time for him to take over. Whenever it was the start of the 4th, that’s when he was feared because the other team knew he was the best closer in the game; he was the kind of player that would not let a game come down to the final shot. I still find it hard to believe this man won ONLY one MVP… he was the best player in the league from 2002-‘03 to 2011-‘12; he should have four MVPs to his name (2002-‘03, 2005-‘06, 2006-‘07 & 2007-‘08).

Kobe was actually a good playoff performer, especially in the tough western conference. He was being doubled teamed and even tripled teamed. Kobe was hitting clutch shots for the lakers and don't get me started on that two impossible 3 pointers Kobe made against Portland back in the days with Shaq.

@@ultrawweman7265 wasn't saying he was great in the playoffs but what I'm asking is where do you have kobe rank far as greatest playoffs performers?...there is a reason and facts to what say.
@ultrawweman7265
@ultrawweman7265 4 жыл бұрын
@@traslenpatterson3478 He's probably top 5. Its a shame really that most of Kobe's prime was wasted by Kwame Brown and inconsistent Smush Parker. Its true that Lebron is a great playoff performer.. However, he was in the weak east. Put him in the west and well, he wouldn't be great. Kobe at times bail the lakers out even when Shaq was there. MJ is probably the best playoff performer. I got Kareem there, Magic there, Larry Bird and Lebron. Only reason I'm putting Kobe at number 2 is because he played in the tough western Conference. He fought the spurs almost every year and even spurs fans hated him. Prime Melo was a beast. Lebron is number 5. Larry Bird is 6, Magic is 4 and Kareem is 3. I could argue without Magic, Kareem wouldn't win anything in L.A.

Avril Lavigne how can he be MVP for 2006 when they was 7th in the west. Nash actually had better numbers, better record, and he was more valuable to his team and teammates. He actually raised everybody’s career avg that year. You don’t get MVP for scoring a bunch of points. Lol it’s that’s the case mj wouldn’t won over magic in 87
